IMPROVEMENT IN HANDSAWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,914, dated May 15, 1877; application filed November 11, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that We, LEVI SHAVE, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and resident of the county of Austin and State of Texas, and SHERWOOD YOUNG BEAMS, of the county of Austin and State of Texas, have invented an Improvement in Handsaws, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of the saw, and Fig, 2 a perspective view of the sawframe with saw attached.
The object of our invention is to provide a device for sawing wood smoothly and rapidly; and the nature of the invention consists in the combination of devices employed, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the drawing,A is a frame formed of a single piece of metal bent to the desired form, and provided at each of its ends with a socket. B is the saw, having the teeth H N beveled at I, and provided upon either side with the semicircular grooves K L, which form the cutting-edges O. The grooves K are deeper,
and extend farther into the saw-plate, than the grooves L. The edges 0 form the front of the teeth H, and the rear of the teeth N.
The saw B is attached to the frame A by the bolts D D, passing through the sockets upon the ends of said frame.
0 G are handles formed upon a handle- Gr, constructed to operate as shown and described, and for the purpose specified.
