Description

G. W. TUCKER.
DRAWER-PULL.
Patented May 8,1877.
GEORGE W. TUCKER, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRAWER-PULLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,527, dated May 8, 1877; application filed March 22, 1877.
To all'who m it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. TUCKER of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in Drawer-Pulls, of which the following is a specification:
Drawer-pulls have been made with a joint between the hand and the attaching screw, but this has generally been a pin passing through a hole, which is expensive to fit into place, and liable to wear and become loose.
I make use of a link-joint formed of two interlocked eyes at the ends of bolts, one of which passes into the handle, and the other into the drawer. A. shoulder on one of these bolts confines to place the rose that sets against the surface of the drawer, and a cap at the end of the knob covers up the interlocking eyes, so as to improve the appearance. This drawer-pull is very strong, ornamental, and cheap, and it is not liable to wear loose.
In the drawing, Figure l is a vertical section, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section at the line :0 w.
The bolts (1 b are united together by the link-joint formed by the interlocking eyes 0 d upon the ends of the respective bolts. These bolts will usually be made of wire bent to shape, but they might be malleable castings, or cut from sheet metal. The bolts pass into or through the knob e and drawer-front f, respectively, and they are made with screwthreads, so as to screw into the wood, or, preferably, as shown, to receive the nuts 9 h, the nut h having an ornamental cover, It, forming the end of the knob. There is a shoulder at i, on the bolt 1), that serves to confine the ornamental rose or cone Z, that surrounds this bolt, and is clamped thereby against the surface of the drawer. A cap, m, surrounds the end of the knob, and also the eye 0 of the bolt on, so as to improve the appearance of the joint, and the cap is slotted to allow the knob to be raised, the said slot receiving the eye and body of the bolt 1). A' washer, o, with its edge confined in a groove in the cap m, is held by the eye c, clamping it to the end of the handle a, and in so doing the cap m is itself clamped to place and held securely.
I claim as my invention-- 1. In a drawer-pull, the combination, with the attaching screws, of link-joints formed by the two eyes, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the link-joint c d and attaching-screws a b, of the handle 0, and the metallic cap m at the end of the handle, covering the link-joint, substantially as set forth.
Signed by me this i7th day of March, 1877.
