At the saine time, the fold 27 will engage the Y inner side of the flange 23 under the bottom portion 15 and so thevflange will act as a gauge for the stitching by the needle 25. In other Words, the stitching and the fold of the cover sheet will be gauged by the flange 23 so that this line of stitching will be parallel to the line of stitching 12. v
When a seam has been vformed Y,as above described, the cover 14 will be pulled over the next rib in the ,padding and folded again to form the next seam. Thus the seam in the cover 14 is a concealed stitch and the fold 27, whenthe cover material is pulled over the next rib, will be depressed into the groove immediately above the stitching 12. VThis arrangement provides a very neat appearing exterior for the completed upholstery.
As shown in Figs. 7 and 8, the flange 23 of Fig. 4 may be substituted by a disc orl wheel 30, pivoted to the body 15 in such a manner as to depend below the body'l substantially the same amount as the flange 23.V The provision of the wheel will eliminate a certain Y co amount of friction and will be more desirable Y for some materials.
Figs. 7 and 8 illustrate a further modification, in that, in lieu of the socket 17, a flat have been illustrated and described in such detail as to enable any one skilled in the art to practice the invention, nevertheless itis to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the details disclosed, other than as necessitated by the development of the prior art; but, instead, the invention embraces such embodiments'of the broad idea as fall within the scope of the appended claims,

A device for stitching cover material to padding havingribs with a seam therebetween, comprising a guide having a depending flange adapted to follow saidseam, a bottomv adapted to flatten the padding adjacent said seam, a needle aperture in said bottom, and iianges flared upwardly and-outwardly away from said bottom portion to'deflect said ribs away from said needle aperture. v

comprising a guide having a parting portion with a narrow bottom portion extending rearwardly therefrom, said bottom portion having a depending flange adapted to follow the seam, said bottom portion being adapted to flatten said padding adjacent said seam and having a needle aperture to one side of said flange, said bottom portion and said ange forming a corner adapted to receive said fold, align the same with said seam, and gauge the needle therefrom, and a pair vof flanges extending upwardly and outwardly from the edges of said bottom portion, said l flanges being flared outwardly from ,s aidf parting portion and diverging away from said needle aperture to depress and deflect said padding and the free portions of said cover material away from said needle aper- 8. A padding guide comprising a body having a parting portion at the front end thereof, a needle aperture to the rear of said parting portion, a wheel pivoted to said body between said parting portion and said needle aperture, and flanges flared upwardly Vand outwardly away from said needle aperture.

10. A padding guide comprising a body having aparting portion, a narrow bottom portion extending rearwardly from said parting portion, and a wheel pivoted to said body, said wheel depending below said narrow bottom portion.
