MOP WRINGER Filed Aug. 25, 19:52 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Inventor May C'awar/o Patented Mar. 21, 1933 UNITED STATES MARY GESARIO, or KENOSHA, wrsconsriv Mor wnI veER Application filed August 25, 1932. Serial No. 630,463.
This invention relates to mop wringers, and has particular reference to that type of mop wringer comprising a bucket or a receptacle together with wringlng rolls mounted in operative position thereon and between which the swathe of the mop is passed for forcing the water from the swathe 1nto the bucket or receptacle; and a salient feature of the present invention is the provision of a mop Wringer wherein the bucket or receptacle is provided with two compartments, one for clean water and the other for the dirty water wrung from the mop, together with a novel form of wringer associated with the receptacle or pail, the entire device consisting of but relatively few parts, and being capable of easy manipulation and ready transportation from one place to another.
The invention, together with its numerous objects and advantages, will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the 725 wringer.
Figure 2 is a front elevational View thereof with certain parts broken away and shown in section.
With reference more in detail to the draw- 39 ings it will be seen that the improved wringer comprises a pail or receptacle generally designated by the reference character 5. The receptacle in the present instance is of general rectangular configuration and is provided with two compartments, of which one, the compartment 6, is for water squeezed from the mop, and the other, the compartment 7, is for clean water. The compartments 6 and 7 are formed through the medium of a Vertical partition 8 supported between the side Walls 9 of the bucket or receptacle 5.
The receptacle 5 is mounted on swivelled casters 10, the casters 10 being located one each at the corners of the bottom of the receptacle 5.
The receptacle 5 is also provided with suitable brake means adjacent opposite ends thereof, and each of said brake means includes a bar 11 secured at one end to an end 5Q wall 12 of the receptacle, and having a free end projecting forwardly and *saidfree end having pivoted thereto a ground-engaging, stop including a shank 13 provided on'its lower end with a knob-14= of rubber or other suitable yieldable material to frictional l'y engage the ground and therebyretain the-receptacle 5 against: casual movement.
Mdunted on'th'e receptacle 5 is a wringer per se designated generally by thelreference' M character 15, -Wringer 15 comprises a pair of elongated parallel bars 16- which are -secured at their lower ends to the: partition: 8 through the medium of rivets-or other fastem i-ng elements 17. For the major portionsfof their lengths, bars 16' are spaced, and at their upper ends converge and aresecured together as at 18. Rising from that end wall 1210f the bucket 5 forming one ofthe walls of the compartment. dis astandard 19 and sup 7 ported between the standard-19 and the bars m 16 is a wringer roll 20-,the latter being disposed adjacent theupper ends. of thestandaid 19. A substantially-zU-shaped frame includes curved side or armporti0ns121-piv'- oted. intermediate their ends as at 22l'to; the standard 19 and one of the bars 16; .The 'end'. portion of the referred to frame is designated y the. reference character 23 and has; rotatably mounted thereon a roller 24-;cooperable with the roller 20 for squeezing the swathetof the mop therebetween for forcing the water from said swathe. a;
At their free ends, the arms or sides 21 of the aforementioned U-shap'ed: frame areprolvi'ded; with eyes 25 with: which are engaged pintles; 26: provided on the free endscof the sidesor' arms 27 ofa substantially V shaped bracket that extends downwardly from the arms 21 at the front of the receptacle 5;. At the apex thereof, the VT'sha'ped bracket re ferred tosupportsra foot pedal 28. The-arm's 27 of said bracket areof resilient material and can be readily; swunginwardly towards one another for moving; the pintles 26= outof engagement with the eyes25t 1 V g i v The aforementioned U-shaped bracket in cluding theparts21iand 23 is normally urged to rotate 'in: ant antirclockwise direction through the medium of a spring29Fconne'cted' atone-.endiwith oneaofrthe armsflhandiat its a shaft 30 mounted in a manner hereinafter made manifest adjacent the upper ends of the bars or standards 16, and this shaft 30 has a chain and sprocket connection 31 with that end of the roller shaft 20 supported between the bars 16 as shown in Figure 2. Shaft 3O is provided on one end with a crank handle 32. Obviously, by rotating the shaft 30, the roller 20 will be rotated.
For supporting the shaft 30 there is provided a pair of bearings 33 within which the shaft 30 is journaled. These bearings 33 are provided on the endsof short straps 34 provided with pins 35 adapted to be engaged with selected openings 36 provided in the upper portions of the bars 16. It will be noted that each ofth-e bars 16 is provided with a vertical series ;of spaced openings 36 and in valinement with the series of openings 36, said bars are also provided with vertical slots 37 for accommodating the shaft 30. It will thus be seen that by..placing the pins 35 in the desired apertures 36 the shaft 30 may bemounted at the 'desiredelevation for taking up slack in the chain 31.
, There is also provided for each of the compartments 6 and 7 drain cocks 38.
.;The use ofthe device is thought apparent. The clean water in compartment 7 may be used for scrubbing purposes, and when it is desired to wring the mop, the swathe thereof is placed between the rollers 20 and 24 and by pressing on thevpedaln28, roller 24 is moved into cooperative position with the roller 20fo'r squeezing the swathe of the mop therebetween. WVith the swathe of the map thus arranged between the rollers 20 and 24, roller 20 may be rotated by rotating shaft 30, power being transmitted from the sha-ft30 through the chain and sprocket mechanism 31 to the roller 20 as is apparent.
Even though I have herein shownand described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is'to be understood that the invention. is susceptible of further changes, modifications, and improvements coming within the scope of'the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A mop wringer comprising in combination a receptacle provided with two compartments, swivel casterssupporting said receptacle, laterally extending bars mounted on the receptacle at relatively oppositeends thereof, and ground'engagin'gelements pivotally connected with said bars; and a wringer device mounted on said receptacle in operative'position to 1 one of said compartments, said wringer' device comprising a pair of spaced parallel supports, a roller rotatably-supported between said supports,-a shaft mounted
