BENJAMIN A. KLAPIER, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS,y AssIeNoIt To srRAGUE, WARNER 'a COMPANY, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION Y DISPLAY CASE Y Application mea March 11,
This invention relates to display cases; and more particularly to display cases adapted to display food products.
An object of the above invention is to provide a display case of improved and simpliilluminating and Ventilating the interior of the show case in such a manner as to prevent the accumulation of moisture by condensation, or otherwise, which would cloud or otherwise dim the glass panels through which inspection of the foods is made while at the sameV time preventing an undue heating of the food or other products on display.
'A further obj ect of the invention is to provide in conjunction with a display case of the character indicated, reflecting means adapted to augment the display.
Further obj ects will more particularly vappear in the course of the following detailed description.
V Two sheets of drawings accompany this specication as part thereof, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the display case;
Figure 2 is a vertical cross section taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse cross section taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary cross section taken on line 4 4 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings, the improved show case comprises a main top part 1 supported in any suitable manner as by legs 2. The top 1 is provided with a plurality of spaced openings 3, with which are associated semi-spherical reflectors 4 secured to the under face of top 1. Each of the reflectors 4 carries a source of illumination, here illustrated as incandescent electric bulbs 5, which are connected to a suitable source of current by conductor 7. Each reector 4 is further provided with air ports 6, through which air is admitted to pass upwardly around the electric bulbs 5 and through the openings?) in the top 1.
Mounted on top 1 on suitable brackets 8 are deflector plates 9 preferably of translu- I shownas the center, a fan 41() `is mounted,
193e.v seriai No. 434,948.'
cent glass.` Theseplates 9substantially cover all of the electric bulbs 5 so as to conceal same from direct view.
At some suitable spot onv the top, herel here shown as an electric fan associated with its pro-pelling motor. Sides'll rest'upon the top land enclose the four sides supporting a table 12sp`aced above the deflectorplates 9 and fan 10. The sidewalls 11 are provided withafpluralityof air ports 13, which air' ports are Vvpreferably assembled with shields 14 secured tothe inner faces of the walls 11. The table 12 is provided jwith spaced airports '15, and intermediatethe air ports 15- is provided with openings 16 for the reception of the foodcont'aining recepf tacles 18. i
Preferably, and as here illustrated, the.
walls of openings 16 are provided with a shoulder 17 adapted to support the bottom of vessels 18. The vessels 18 are preferably of transparent material such as glass, so that Y the light from the bulbs 5 passingthrough translucent shields 9 can also pass through the bottoms of vessels 18 `and'illuminate the contents thereof.
Supported onthe top of table 12 are side walls 19 provided with air outlet ports 26, and these walls 19 support a transparent top 2O of plate glass, or the like.
The walls 19 in effect form a frame for the glass top 20, and are` preferably mounted on table 12, as` by hinges 21, being secured in closed position by` a suitable latch 25. i
A top cover 22 is also hingedly secured to table 12 in association withframe 19 and brackets 23, and the top 22 carriesupon its inner face a mirrorl24, so that when the topy 22 is in a vertical position, the mirror 24 will reflect the contents of vessels 18.
By the means thus described, it will be apparent that the contents of the vessels 18 will beproperly illuminated, and a constant stream of air will vbe circulated through the display chamber to prevent the accumulation of moisture therein which would tend to condense On and cloud the plate glass cover 21.
rIhe contents in vessels .18 will be visible,
directly through plate glass cover 21, and be reflected in mirror 24.
Various modications in the precise con struction and arrangement of parts Will readily suggest themselves to'those skilled in the art, but Within the scope of the present invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim:
1. In a show case with a transparent top, a shelf partition spaced below the top to form an upper and a lower compartment, said shelf having an opening, a transparent container adapted to seat in the opening and be supported by the shelf, and illuminating means in the lower compartment, means for utilizing part of the heat from said illuminating means to prevent condensation on the top, and for` venting the bulk of the heated air consisting of air inlets in the bottom of the case, air'vents in the side Walls ofthe case below'and above the partition shelf, and passages through the shelf partition smaller than said vents to provide. a circulation of air into and out of the lower compartment With the diversion of a small part of said heated air into and out of the upper compartment.
2. The structure of claim l With a transparent deflector positioned in the lower compartmentbetiveen the source of illumination and the shelf supported container.
3. The structure of claim l with means Within the lower compartment for creating a positive air circulation.
4. The'structure of claim l With a transparent deflector between the shelf supported container and the source of illumination, and
means adjacent'balie for creating a positive 'air circulation.
In testimony whereof I atiiX my signature.
BENJAMIN A. KLAPPER.
