Fig. 3 shows a piece of linoleum of the type of Fig. 2, wherein, some or all of the exposed portions ll of the web have been filled in by brightly colored patterns elements 21 which provide haphazard spots of color in the pattern. Such spots are desirable in that they break the monotony of a regular pattern and thereby improve the appearance. l have shown at 3a in Fig. 1 brightly colored pattern elements which contrast with the main body of the material.
In the linoleums of Fig. l and Fig. '2, the applied attern elements stand at a higher level at an the base material.
l have illustrated and described by way oi? example only two types of linoleum made according to my invention. It will he understood that the invention is not limited to such forms but may be otherwise embodied within the scope of the following claims.-
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a surface covering comprising a base made up of a fabric web and a substantially continuously extending layer of linoleum mix thereover and pattern elements oflinoleum mix Referring first to Figure 1,. there is shown- Web 4 having calendering or cementing. As a new article of manufacture, a surface covering comprising a base made up of a fabric web and having a substantiallycontinuously extending layer-of linoleum mix thereover, and pattern elements of linoleum mix overlying the base and secured thereto, the base being exposed between at least some of the pattern elements but a ma]o1 portion of the base being covered.
