BlLLBOARD CONSTRUCTION Filed NOV. 50, 1932 ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 14, 1933 ELIAS e. BULRKET, or ALTOQN'A, rnivnsynvme BILLBOARD coivsrltuc'riorv Application filed November 30, 1932. Serial 110.645,;
The invention relates to a billboard and more especially to a double-faced billboard. The primary object of the invention is the provision of a board of this character, wherein its construction enables the el1m1- nation entirely of all external bracing so that such board has a maximum capacity for display purposes and both faces are available for advertising matter.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a billboard of this character which is extremely simple in construction, sturdy when erected, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which. discloses the preferred embodiment of the-invention, and
pointed out in the claimhereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view partly in' section of a billboard constructed in accordance with the invention and the same erected anchored in a foundation.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Figure 1 looking in the direction 0 of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
billboard comprises a series of spaced vertical uprights 5 suitably spaced from each other and having their lower end portions anchored within cementitious blocks or anchors 6, these being countersunk or embedded in a foundation. The outermost uprights 5 of the series carry end facing strips 7 made fast thereto in any suitable manner, while the intermediate of the series of uprights are fitted with strips 8.
The uprights 5 have made fast thereto the longitudinal upper, lower and inter-' mediate strips 9, 10 and 11 respectively, at opposite sides thereof. These longitudinal strips support face boards 12, the latter marginally having associated therewith mold- Referring to the drawing in detail, the
ing or framing-pieces 13. The upper longitudinal strips 9 support/a head strip 14.
The face boards 12 are designed for the la of advertisingmatter such as osters y e P or other applied advertising matter.
It will be obvious that advertisements will be visible from opposite sides of the billboard. Below the face boards 12 and carried by the uprights are fencings 15.
lVithin' the blocks 6 and made fast to the uprights are cross angle pieces 16, these being located on opposite sides of the uprights and assuring sturdiness in the anchorage of the billboard for erection and its support within a foundation, the angle pieces 16 being disposed on opposite sides of the respective uprights.
It is of course understood that the angle pieces 16 are preferably made from steel and also the end facing strips 7 and the head strip 14 are made from steel although the same may be otherwise constructed.
What is claimed is:
A billboard comprising a series of uprights, spaced longitudinalstrips carried by said uprights and disposed at opposite sides thereof, face boards imposed upon said strips, a marginal framing about said face boards, the face boards being disposed opposite each other, end strips on the outermost of the uprights, and a head strip impq'sed upon the uppermost longitudinal strips. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ELIAS G. BURKET.
