This invention relates to new and useful.
improvements in a wire-shaping machine.
The invention has for an object. the construction of a Wire-shaping machine which is characterized by a bending disc eccentrically swivelly mounted upon an axis of a pair of levers with bending jaws whereupon a wire ma be bent with a plurality of scallops.

The wire shaping machine, according to this invention has a. base member 10 adapted for "attachment upon a'work bench tableor the like. A pair of levers 11 and 12 'are 'sWivelly mounted on the base member 10 on a common vertical axis. This mounting is is shown secured upon a table board 20.

accomplished by a bolt "13 which extends through the base member and has a nut 14 in its top-end. The levers 11 and 12 are mounted up'onthe'bolt 13-adjacentto each'other. A washer 15 separates the top lever from the nut 14. At the bottom, a sleeve 16 is interposed between the bottom lever'and a bending disc 17 which is eccentrically swivelly mounted upon the bolt 13, that is, the-common axis of the levers. This bending disc is of circular form though it may be of elliptical j or other shape. A means is provided forholding the bending disc 17 in various adjusted positions and comprises a peg 18 projecting 7 from the bottom face thereof and engageable in one of a plurality of apertures 19 formed in the base member 10. The base member 10 Radially adjustably mounted on'the member 10 is'a starting blade 21. The botbase I tom portion of the starting bladeengages,
within a radial recess 22 formed in the base. member 10. The front end of the starting blade is turned upwards in the portion indi-- cated by reference numeral 23 and is adapted to be placed at various distances from the. bending disc 17. A bendingblade 24 is s'ecured upon a slide 25 adjustable on the lever 12. Thusthe bending blade 24'may be adjusted for proper coaction with the bending disc 17 A second bending blade 26 is secured upon a slide 27 mounted on the lever 11 in a manner so that the second bending blade may properly coact with the bending blade 24.
A means is provided for. limiting motion of each of the levers. vA projection 28 from the board 20 serves to limit motionof the A, pin 29 projectin'g 'fromflthe lever 11 is engageable againsta lip 30 from a band "31 adjustably mounted on the side of the base element 10 to limit turning of the lever 11 clockwise. The
strip 31 may be adjusted upon the base member in that the base member is of circular shape and screws32 engage through elongated slots in thestrip 31 and threadedly into the side of the base member. A'finger 33 is fixed upon a slide 34'adjustable on theilever 12 and engag'eable against'a' stop 35 projecting from the side of the base member 19 and a finger 36 from aband 37 which is adjustably mounted on the side of the base member. The adjustable mounting of the band is accomplished by screws 32 engaging through elongated slots formed in the band 37. This is clearly shown in Fig. 4.
The operation of the device consists in moving the levers 11 and 12 against the stops 28 and 35 as shown in Fig. 1. Then a'wire 40 is placed in between the side oi the bending disc 17 and the starting blade 23. The starting blade should be adjusted so as to be spaced from the side of the bending disc 17 so that there is just room for the passage of the wire 40, as for example illustrated in Fig. 1. While one wire is shown on the drawing an entire row of wires may be used, that is the space, above the wire 10 in Fig. t may be filled with additional wires. I
Then the lever 12 should be moved anticlockwise to a position in which the stop .38 engages against the stop finger 36. The blade 2 1should be adjusted to a position so that in the'latter mentioned position of the I lever 12 it is spaced from the side of the bend ing disc a sufficient distance to just allow the passage of the wire. In Fig. 2 the new posi tion of the wire 1-0 is illustrated. The stops 33 and 36 should also be adjusted for the proper action of the lever. Then the lever 11 should be moved clockwise while the lever 12 is held. The lever 11 should'be moved until the stop 29 acts against the finger 30. This position is illustrated in Fig. 3. Thebending blade 26 in this latter mentioned position strikes against the wire 4-0 and against the beveled edge of the bending blade 24 so as to bend the wire 40 to form one of the points of the scallop. Then the levers 11 and 12 are again moved back to their first positions and the scalloped wire advanced one scallop and the operation repeated to produce another scallop. Thus any number of scallops may be formed in the wire. Scalloped wires of this type are generally used in the manufacture of lamp shades.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to theprecise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is r 1. A wire shaping machine, comprising a base member, a pair of levers swivelly mounted on the base member upon a common axis, a bending disc eccentrically swivelly mount-ed on said axis, means for holding said bending disc in various adjusted positions, a starting blade radially adjustable on said base member relative to the axis of said levers, a bending blade adjustably mounted on one of said levers for acting against the edge of the bending disc, a second bending blade adjustably mounted on the other lever for operating against the first bending blade to bend a wire away from the bending disc, and means for limiting pivoting of said lever.

A wire shaping machine, comprising a base member, a pair of levers swivelly mounted on the base member upon a common axis, a bending disc eccentrically swivelly mounted on said axis, means for holding said bending disc in various adjusted positions, a starting blade radially adjustable on said base member "relative to the axis of said levers, a bending blade adjustably mounted on one ,of said levers for acting against the edge of the bending disc, a second bending blade adjustably mounted on the other. lever for operating against the first bending blade to bend a wire away from the bending disc, and means for limiting pivoting of said lever, said base member being circular, and the mean s for limiting said levers being mounte on the sides thereof. 1 r

A wire shaping machine, comprising a base member, a pair of levers swivelly mounted on the base member upon a commonv axis, a bending disc eccentrically swivelly mounted on said axis, means for holding said bending disc in various adjusted positions, a starting blade radially adjustable on said base-member relative to the axis of said levers, a bending blade ad ustably mounted on one of said levers for acting against the edge of the bending disc, a second bending blade adjustably mounted on the other lever for operating against the first bending blade to bend a.wire
away from the bending disc, and means for limiting pivoting of said lever, a bolt engaging through the base member and a pair of levers constituting the pivot pointsof the levers.

A wire shaping machine, comprising a base member, apair of levers swivelly mounted on the base member upon a common axis, a bending disc eccentrically swivelly mounted 011 said axis, means for holdingsaid bending disc in various adjusted positions, a starting blade radially adjustable on said base member relative to the axis of said levers, a bending blade adjustably mounted on one of said levers for acting against the edge of the bending disc, a second bending blade adjustably mounted on the other lever for operating against the first bending blade to bend a Wire away from the bending disc, and means for limiting pivoting of said lever, said starting blade having a base portion slidably mounted in a dovetailed recess in said base member.
6. A Wire shaping machine, comprising a base member, a pair of levers swivellymounted on the base member upon a common axis, a
bending disc eccentrically swivelly mounted on said axis, means for holding said bending disc in various adjusted positions, a starting blade radially adjustable on said base member relative to the axis of said levers, a bending blade adjustably mounted on one of said levers for acting against the edge of the bending disc, a second bending blade adjustably mounted on the other lever for operating against the first bending blade to bend a wire away from the bending disc, and means for limiting pivoting of said levers, said I bending disc and the blades being of a height to accommodate a'plurality of wires at one time.
