on opposite sides. 3 V V The manner of operating and using my device is as follows: I
When this is stored out of use, the clamping screw 17 may be loosened so thatthe prop leg 15 may be pulled outwardly from the groove 16 in the main supporting leg 11, and
such prop may be swung parallel to the lower. portion 12 of the leg. Or when the legend 1 the prop 15 are clamped in the position shown in Fig.6 there is provided a rigid non-adjustable support for the paneland the associated parts. g 7' The transversegroove 20 is provided inone of the legs to accommodate theside fralme 22 on one side of the device, and this positions the table top infahoriz'onta l position for;
Extending through each block there is apivot wire40 (note F ig.5.)" which use as. a table for serving meals or the like; and if: the bed clothes should be uneven the oppositeside of the table may be adjusted up and down by the slot 14 in the otherleg and both clamping nuts 26 may be clamped tightly, thus holding the top in the desired position,
WVhen may be swung with its operating end on the under side of thetable and the leaf holders may be shifted by sliding their blocks 38 to the oppositeiends of thepanel.
When it is desired to use the device as a book holder the panel 21 with the attached frames 22 and ledge 27 may be adjusted. up and down in thefslot ,andis preferably fixed inthe desired positions by fitting the washer 25' in one of the recesses'19,then on clamping the clamp nut 26 the panel may be placed either in a horizontal or any desired inclined position. When in the inclined position a book may readily be supported on theledge 27. When the book is opened, the book retainer may beshifted so thatthe end portion or arm 34 extends downwardly in front of the'panel and may engage the cen-.
ter of the book with theleaves open. The leaf holder havingthe arm 43 has the adjustable structures operating in each of the slots-37 and these may he pulled out and in, due to the use of the compression spring 41, toengage books of different thicknesses, and
used 2' as a table the book retainer 1 hold such books open by holding down the leaves. It will be obvious, to turn the pages 1. i
of the book each leaf holder may be drawn outwardlyxslightly, the leaf turned and the arm portion 'of' the holder allowed to slip position.
,- Various changes may be made in the de tails ofconstruction without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as deback and retain the leaves in the desired open fined in the appended claims.
