It is the purpose ofthe inventor, as stated. to locate a food holdingand display case or cabinet at the rear edge of the counter slab, and the frame member 18 constitutes the outer side wall of the said food container or cabinet which, in the interests of simplicity of description, will be hereinafterreferred to as a cabinet. e

The inner side wall 21 comprises anlupper frame member 22 extending longitudinally of the fountain and a lower frame member 23 which is parallel therewith but on a lower plane, the said frame member being connected-by a plurality of ribs 24 which, with the frame member, form open panels which,

however, are closed by doors 25 hinged as at 26 to the lower frame member 23 to swing rearwardly from the top in order that food and the like can be placed in the cabinet or removed therefrom. The lower frame member has a longitudinally extending lug 27 which, with the flange 19 of the frame member 18, constitutes a support for the floor or bottom 28 of the'compartment, on which re ceptacles such as plates or the like for holding food may rest. The lug 27 and flange 19 also support an elongated tray 29 having flanges 30 and 31 which rest on the flange 19 and lug, respectively, and in the space between the tray and the floor 28 one or more refrigerant circulating pipes such as 32 may be located.

The top of the cabinet is transparent in order that its contents may be observed by customers using the counter slab. Under certain conditions. the top may be horizontal. rather than inclined, as it is shown in this illustration, but, in the present embodiment, the. bracket 18 has a top flange 33,a channel ir0n3 l in spaced relation to the flange 33 and thereunder, and an angle iron 35, the flange 36 of which is in spaced relation to the chan nel iron. Preferably two glass panes 37 and 38 are employed for each section of the cabinet. The outer edge of one glass pane is seated between the flange 33 and the angle iron 34, and the outer edge of the lower glass pane is seated between the channel iron and the flange 36, it being understood that the relation of parts is such that the glass will be held against movement.

In order to prevent sweating of the panes, circulating pipes 39 may be interposed between the panes, and the pipes may be seated in the channel iron, although this is a detail of construction which may be changed to suit particular. requirements. The inner edges of the panes 37 and 38 are respectively seated between a flange 40 and a channel iron 41 and between the channel iron 41 and a flange 42 of an angle 13, it being shown that these angle irons and channel irons may be secured to the respective frame members by fastenings 44 such as bolts, screws, rivets or the like.

If desired, the frame member 23 may be provided with a depending flange 45 shaped so that it will forin an engagement for the flanges 46 of syrup jars 16 and, of course, suitable brackets or uprights Will be provided within the structure on which the frame member 23 or the flange 45 thereof Will be supported. Y

The inventor does not Wish to be limited with respect to the lengths of the sections of the floor 28 or the tray 29, as they may be sectional in character for convenience of manipulation in case they are to be removed for repair orrcplacement. v

The fountain has the usual rack lfl for holding syrup jars, and the space between said jars and the tray 29 is cooled by refrigerant within the said tray. By reason of the provision of the display cabinet and the cooling system associated with it, an attractive exhibit may be made of pastries, cakes and the like, Which will be kept in fresh condition by reason of the low temperature which may be maintained in the cabinet. By em ploying the cabinet for displaying edibles, such as sandwiches and frozen dainties, the customers appetites may be excited and through this means urged to purchase.

By reason of the construction of the device, no auxiliary or extra refrigerating apparatus is necessary, since the refrigerating instrumentality is constructed or built in with the top of the counter and the refrigeration is effective for the syrup jars on the soda fountain. In this way, the cooling means which are used for the jars may be used for the display cabinet and, of course, the refrigerating instrumentality may be coupled or connected with the usual refrigerating systems employed in soda water fountains of 7 this type.

The capacity of the display cabinet may, if desired, be increased by constructing what may be termed a double deck therein for holding a large variety of. foods and delicacies.

The tray 29 is intended to contain brine which acts as a refrigerant for the contents of the display cabinet.

I claim:

1. A soda water fountain having a foundation and a lining, the lining terminating below the top of the fountain, a refrigerating instrumentality occupying the space above the lining, a counter slab supported at the outer side of the fountain, and a display cabinet at the inner edge of the counter slab above the refrigerating instrumentality cooled thereby.

2. In a soda water fountain, a foundation and a lining, the lining terminating below the top of the fountain, asupport inside of the lining for-holding syrup jars, a refrigerating instrumentality above the lining and effective to cool the syrup jars, and a display cabinet above said refrigerating instrumentality cooled thereby.

3. In a soda water fountain, a foundation including a lining, a support inside the lining for holding syrup jars, a refrigerating instrumentality above the lining effective to cool the syrup jars, and a display cabinet at the outer side of the fountain above said refrigerating instrumentality cooled thereby.

4. In a soda water fountain, a foundation including a lining, a support inside the lining for holding syrup jars, a refrigerating instrumentality above the lining effective to cool the syrup jars, a display cabinet at the outer side of the fountain above said refrigerating instrumentality cooled thereby, and a counter slab supported in front of the fountain approximately on the plane of the display cabinet.

5. In a soda water fountain, a foundation including a lining, a support inside the lining for holding syrup jars, a refrigerating instrumentality above the lining effective to cool the syrup jars, a display cabinet at the outer side of the fountain above said refrigerating instrumentality cooled thereby, said display cabinet comprising an outer frame member and an inner frame member in spaced relation thereto, a floor for the display cabinet supported between the outer and inner frame members, a tray supported by said frame members below the floor, means for refrigerating the space between the bottom of the tray and the floor of the cabinet, a transparent.

6. In a soda water fountain, a foundation including a lining, a support inside the lining for holding syrup jars, a refrigerating instrumentality above the lining effective to cool the syrup jars, a display cabinet at the outer side of the fountain above said refrigerating instrumentality cooled thereby, said cabinet comprising outer and'inner frame members approximately parallel to each other,means on the inner surfaces of the frame members for supporting panes of glass superimposedand in spaced relation to each other, means on the same frame members for supporting a floor, a tray having flanges supported between the said frame members, and means for refrigerating the space between the bottom of the tray and the floor.

9. A soda water fountain having a foundavtion and a lining, the lining being lower than the foundation, insulation located between the foundation and lining terminating at the top of the lining, a cabinet frame member eX- tending upwardly and having a flange at its lower end resting on the top of the foundation, a counter slab having its inner edge engaging the frame member and supported by the said flange, a cabinet frame member in spaced relation to the first mentioned frame 7 member, means for connecting the upper edges of the frame members together, transparent panes filling the spaces between the frame members and the last mentioned means, means on the frame members for supporting two panes superimposed and spaced apart, means for supplying anti-sweating solutions between the panes, means for supporting a tray and cabinet floor between the first and second'named frame members, and means for supplying refrigerant to the tray under the floor and to the space between the tray and the-top of the lining.

10. A soda. water fountain having a foundation and a lining, the lining being lower than the foundation, insulation located between the foundation and lining terminating at the top of the lining, a cabinet frame mem-- ber extending upwardly and having a flange atits lower end resting on the top of the foundation, a counter slab having its inner edge engaging the frame member and supported by the said flange, a cabinet frame member in spaced relation to the first mentioned frame member, means for connecting the upper edges of the frame members together, transparent panes filling the spaces between the frame members and the last mentioned means, means on the frame members for supporting two panes superimposed and spaced apart,

means for supplying anti-sweating solutions i between the panes, means for supporting a tray and cabinet floor between the first and second named frame members, means for supplying refrigerant to the tray under the floor and to the space between the tray and the top of the lining, and syrup are supported in proximity to the space above the lining.
