Description
I G. VORRATI-I.
CHAMBER'CASE'. No. 189.818 Patented April 17', 1877.
NJPEI'ERK. PHOT0-LITHOGRAFHER, WA3HINGTON. D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOE.
GUSTAVVORRATH, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHAMBER-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,8l8, dated April 17, 1877; application filed March 22, 1877.,
of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Ghamber- (Jase, which invention is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a chamber-case containing my improvement. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section thereof.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to a case for receiving and holding a chamber-pot in such a position as to admit of its being used at all times, and
by means of which the pot may be carried about Without inconvenience.
It consists in a case or box, having a door for the introduction and removal of a chamber-pot,and the top part of which is provided with a hole and forms a seat, while to any suitable part thereof is hinged a bail, in such a manner that said bail can be lifted up or swung down, while, by its means, the entire case can be carried about from place to place. To the top part or seat of the case are hinged two trap-doors, and with such doors is combined a brace, for retaining them in an elevated position, said doors being so arranged that they can be lowered, so as to cover-up and conceal the hole in the seat, or adjusted at right angles, or nearly so, thereto, and held in this position by means of said brace, when they form rests for the arms, and also help to support the body of the person using the case.
In the drawing, the letter A designatesthe body of my chamber-case, which is preferably made of oblong shape. The top part B of this case is hinged at one edge to its body A, and provided at its opposite edge with a catch or look, a, so that said top part forms a door; but, if desired, said top part may be fastened, and a door arranged in one of the sides of the case and the door, moreover, may be arranged to slide instead of being hinged. Said top part B ot'the case is provided, also, with a hole, 0, the surrounding part of which forms a seat;
The letter 1) designates a bail, which is hinged to two opposite sides of the case A, and at about the middle part thereof, which bail is provided with a handle, I). The bail D can be turned down on the top part or seat B, p
as. shown in Fig. 2, or lifted up, when the case canbe conveniently carried about thereby.
To the top part or seat B of the case are hinged two trap-doors or flaps, E E, and with these doors is combined a brace, F, the latter having the form of a bar, which is provided with a hook, c, at each end. The trap-doors E E are hinged to the case A, near its outer edges, and when they are allowed to rest on the top or seat B they cover up the hole (J. When the trap-doors E E are lifted up at right angles, or nearly so, to the seat B, and thebrace F is placed across them, so that the books 0 catch behind said doors, as seen in Fig. 1, the doors are thereby held in their elevated position, so as to form arm-rests, and
- also assist in supporting the body of the child or other person using the chair.
When the bail D is used in connection with the trap-doors E E, and the latter are raised, said ball can be likewise raised and allowed to rest on the edges of the trapdoors, as seen in Fig. 1, when the bail forms a back-rest for the occupant of the case.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A chamber-case having a door for the introduction and' removal of a chamber-pot, a seat, 13, and a hinged bail or handle, D, substantiallyas and for the purpose described. 1
2. The combination, with the chamber-case A and its door and seat, of hinged trap-doors or covers E E, and a brace for holding said doors in an elevated position, substantially as and for the purpose described. 7
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 19th day of March, 1877'.
GUSTAV VORRATH.
