This invention relates to improvement in store-front construction, with particular ref erence to means for holding a sheet of glass in position and in which the inner and outer strips are of substantially the same design, and where it is desired to mount the glass without the use of backing-blocks, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.

In carrying out our invention, we employ a series of anchoring-blocks 10, preferably formed from extruded metal, and comprising an outer wall 11, base 12, and shelf 13, the underface of the base at front and rear being cut away to form lips 14- and 15 for the purpose as will hereinafter appear, the underface of the lip 14 being formed with a longitudinal groove 16. Extending through the shelf and through the base is an opening 17 for a screw 1S by which the anchoring-block is connected with the window-casing 19. The outer strip 20, which may be of any approved design, is formed at its upper end with a downwardly-eXtending lip 21 and at its lower end with an upwardly-extending lip 22, which enters the said groove 16, the upper lip 21 being engaged by the upper end of the wall 11. The inner strip 23, preferably corresponding in design to the outer strip 20, has a downwardly-turned lip 24 at its upper end, and its lower end 25 is turned outward to pass beneath the lip 15 and is connected with the anchoring-block by a screw 26. The outer strip is fixed in position and a sheet of glass 27 is placed in position, resting upon the shelf 13, which may be provided with strips 28 of Serial No. 572,306.
felt or other cushioning material. The inner strip is then placed in position and moved outward by turning the screw 26 inward.
The position of the screw 26 depends upon the design of the strips, thus, in Fig. 5 of the drawing, we have shown another design of strips, in which the connecting-screw 29 is entered nearer the base of the inner strip, it being practical to form the hole for the screw at any convenient point in the anchoringblock.
In this construction, the outer strip is firmly held in position and is so reinforced by the anchoringblock as to be practically rigid, the tension on the glass being applied only through the yielding of the inner strip.
We claim:
1. A store-front construction, comprising an anchoring-block having a wall and a shelf, means for securing the anchoring-block through the shelf to a casing, an outer strip engaged at its upper and lower edges with the said anchoring-block, an inner strip, and a screw extending through the inner strip into engagement with the anchoring-block below said shelf.
2. A store-front construction, an anchoring-block having an outer wall, a shelf, and a base, the edges of the base formed with lips, and the underface of the outer lip formed with a longitudinal groove, means extending through the shelf for connecting the anchoring-block with a windowcasing, an outer strip having its upper end turned down over the upper end of the wall and its lower end turned upward into the groove in the forward lip, an inner strip having its upper end formed with a downwardly-extending lip and its lower edge adapted to pass beneath the inner lip of the anchoring-block, and means for connecting the inner strip with the anchoring-block- In testimony whereof, we have signed this specification.
