In the flowing of oil from deep wells the upper end of the well casing is usually provided with a master valve which may be used to close the upper end of the casing. The tubing within the casing, to which the oil or other liquid passes, interferes, however, with the closing of the valve. The upper end of the casingabove the casing head is equipped with a series of fittings ordinarily termed a Christmas tree through which the liquid and gas may be discharged to different receptacles therefor and,..when these fittings are to be repaired or changed it is desirable to close the master valve.
In the co-pending application, Serial No. 413,475, filed December 12, race, If have shown a means of parting the tubing adjacent the master valve without interfering with the fittings on the Christmas tree and thus close ofi the passage of liquid or gas while repairs are being made.
It is an object of this invention to improve on the construction shown in the prior application and to make it possible to pre- 30 vent the escape of fluid upwardly through the tubing without-"the necessity of closing the master valve.
I desire to provide within the movable section of the tubin a valve by which said tubing may be close to revent the passage of liquid therethrough. also desire to provide on said movable section of tubing 9. head which is adapted to close the upper end of the casing to prevent the passage of fluid from the well to the casing head.
The invention lies particularly in an improvement upon the prior structure referred to in my application above identified whereby the passage of liquid under pressure from the well may be controlled.
Referring to the drawing herewith I have shown a side view largely in central vertical section illustrating a casing equipped with my invention.

The upper tubing section 14 previously noted is provided at its lower end with a valve 28. Said head is tapered at 29 on its lower end to fit within the seat 12 and when thus seated the fluid passing upwardly from the tubing 8 is allowed to pass through the section 14 and upwardly into the fitting 25. of the valve head 28 is an upwardly tapered shoulder 30 adapted to fit against the shoulder 19 in the casing head.
The tubing section 14 is adjustable vertically through a nut 32 screwed upon the threaded outer surface 33 of the tubing. Said nut is rotatable through a gear 34 thereon coacting with a worm gear 35 upon a rotatable rod 36 mounted in the frame 21. The nut 32 is supported in a transverse member 37 in the frame, the upper end of the nut having a flange 38 thereon resting upon the support 37, allowing said nut to rotate but supporting it against vertical movement. It will be obvious from this construction that the rotation of the nut 32 will move the tubing section 14 in either upward or downward direction, depending upon the direction of movement of said nut.
Above the threaded portion 33 of the tubing I have provided a section 24, slightly reduced in diameter to fit within the stufiing box 22, at the lower end of which is a gate valve 39, said valve being adapted to close the passage through the tubing. L
In the use of my device the tubing will ordinarily be adjusted with the upper section 14 moved downwardly to seat the head 28 within the seat 12 of the lower, section of the tubing, thus preventing the escape of liquid from the tubing into the casing head. When it is desired to close the passage from the well so as to adjust any of the connections either with the casing head or with the upper end of the tubing upon the Christmas tree, I contemplate the closing of the gate valve 4 and this may be done by raising the upper section 14 of the tubing sufliciently high to allow the gate valve 4 to be moved to closed position. Sometimes it is not convenient to close said gate valve and in such cases the upper section 14 is moved further up until the upper shoulder 20 on the head 28 engages thus closing the passage from the casing to the outlet 16 in the casing head. The passage through the tubing may then be closed through the instrumentality of the valve 39 in the tubing.
When said valve 39 is closed it will be seen that the passage of fluid from the well either throu h the casing head or through the tubing will be entirely shut ofi and it will be unnecessary to close the gate valve 4.
It will be obvious that I may employ my present invention without the necessity of the gate valve being used at all. In such case the upper end of the casing may be connected directly to the casing head by an ordinary coupling rather than y the body of the master valve. This is a common construction-and need not be further described.
The advantages of my present construction lie in the fact that 1 am enabled by the upward movement of the upper section of the tubing to close off the passage from the casing and I am then enabled to close the passage from the tubing if desired by the operation of the valve 39. It is also obvious that either one or the other of these outlets from the casing or the tubing may be .closed separately without the necessity of closing the other where such operation is desired.
What I claim as new is:
1. In combination a well casing, a master valve therein, a casing head above said valve, a tubing supported in said casing, said tubing being divided adjacent the lower side of said. valve into upper and lower sections, means to move said upper section upwardly to allow the closing of said valve, and means to close the space between said casing head and said tubing at the lower end of said casing head.
2. In combination a well casing, a master valve therein, a casing head above said valve, a tubing supportedin said casing, said tubing being divided adjacent the lower side of said valve into upper and lower sections, means to move said upper section upwardly to allow the closin of said valve, and means to close the space Iietween said casing head and said tubing at the lower end of said casing head.
3. n combination a well casing, a master valve therein, a casing head above said valve, a tubing supported in said casing, said tubing being divided adjacent the lower side of said valve into upper and lower means to move said upper section upwardly to allow the closing of saidvalve, means to close the space between said casing head and said tubing at the lower end of said casing head, and means to close the passage through said upper section of tubing.
4. In combination, a well casing, a casing head thereon having lateral outlets there from, a well tubing in said casing, means to support said tubing in said casing, said tubing being divided above said support into upper and lower sections, means to move said upper section, and means on said upper section coactz'ng with said casing head to close {he passage of fluid from the well to said outets.
5. In combinaton, a well casing, a casing head thereon having lateral o'utlets therefrom, a well tubing in said casing means to support sa d tubing in said casing but allowing a free passage of fluid thereby, said tubing being divided above said support into upper and lower sections, means to move said upper section, means on said upper section sections,
responsive to an upward movement of said upper section co-acting with said casing head to close the said outlets.
6. In combination, a well casing, a casing head thereon having lateral outlets therefrom, a well tubing in said casing means to support said tubing in said casing but allowing a free passage of fluid thereby, said tubing being divided above said support into upper and lower sections, means to move said upper sections, means on said upper section co-acting with said casing head to close the said outlets and means to close the passage through said upper section.

In combination a well casing, a casing head thereon having lateral outlets, a well tubing in said casing projecting above said casing head, means to preserve a seal about said tubing at the upper end of said casing head, means to move said tubing in said casing head, and means on said tubing coacting with said casing head to close the passage of fluid to said outlets when said tubin is moved longitudinally in said casing hea 9. 11.
