Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,639, dated April 17, 1877; application tiled April 2, 1877.
To alt whom it may concern Be it known that we, FREDERICK G. NIED- EINGEAUS and WILLIAM F. NIEDRINGHAUs, residents of St. Louis, Missouri, have made a new and useful Improvement in Hinges of Vessels of Enameled Iron-Ware, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this speciiication, i-n which- Figure 1 is a perspective of the hinge, showing it as before attached; and Fig. 2, a vertical section of the hinge as attached, and showing that portion of the vessel immediately therewith connected.
Similar letters denote similar parts.
Our aim is to provide a neat, inexpensive, and durable hinge for vessels of enameled sheet-iron ware.
Referring to the annexed drawing, A represents the body of the vessel, and B its cover. These parts are coated with an enamel.
O represents the strap of the hinge. It is folded at its center around the wire a, (that usually encircles the top of the body of the vessel,) and its ends c c are then passed through a slot, b, in the cover, and then opened apart, as shown, and turned down upon the upper side of the cover. Solder D is then applied to and between the ends c c, as shown in Fig. 2, which serves, by becoming attached to the ends, to form a head on the strap, and to prevent its being` Withdrawn through the slot b. The strap is of a material to which solder attaches.
What we claim is- The combination of the vessel A, wire a, cover B, having the slot b, strap C, and solder D, substantially as described and shown.
