My invention relates to photo copying apparatus and certain objects of the invention are to provide an apparatus which in addition to being ada ted for doin all kinds of work that is usua 1y done by ot er apparatus is adapted to do other work which the or dinary copying machine is not adapted to do. Other ob ects are to provide a photo copying apparatus com rislng a stationary ame with a movable rame pivotally connected thereto and with a reversible lens hood whereon a prism may be used and whereby the movable frame may be pivotally swung at right angles to the stationary frame when making reversed negatives. Further objects are to provide 'a stanchion frame movable on the stationary frame and a stanchion frame movable on the pivotal frame with a board on each frame for respectively securing sensitized papers and drawings to be reproduced and with belt and crank means for moving said stanchion frames back and forth for obtaining the desired sizes of reproductions. Still further objects are to provide detachable, pivotal and transparent means for the boards whereby all sizes of paper and all kinds of paper and material may be used and all types of work may be done. And still further objects are to rovide an apparatus that is directly under t e eye of the operator and which ma be manipulated by a single operator thus mcreasingthe accuracy of the work and reducing its cost.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims. In the drawin Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of e complete machine with parts shown in section; Fig. 2 is a detail view in perspective of the receptacle for retaining sensitized paper; Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the machine with parts shown in section and showing the pivotal movement of the apparatus in dotted lines; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the lens hood.
Referring in detail to the drawings wherein like reference numerals are used to indicate like parts in the several views, the stationary portion of the apparatus, which will be described first, comprises a rectangular secured to the topframe of the doorway designated by the numeral 34. At the points frame lpsreferably made of pi and having side ra' 15 and a rear end rai 31 with a pair of supporting standards 32 that are secured to the floor of a dark room. The forward ends of the side rails are secured to a pair of tall stanchions 33 which are ordinarily secured to the floor within the doorway of a dark room and may extend upwardly and be as where said tall stanchions join the side rails 15 a front end rail 35 may be secured transversely of the frame. The dark room may of course, be made light proof by means 0 heavy canvas or other suitable material.
A movable stanchion frame 9 has its two upright members slidabl mounted on the side rails 15 by means of a T-pipe joint or otherwise. The lower ends of said upright members extend down to a connection with small trucks 36 provided with casters which ride on the floor of the dark room. It will thus be seen that the stanchion frame 9 is movable from the rear end rail to the tall stanchions 33. The means for moving said stanchion frame comprises a crank handle 25 connected to a worm that is in mesh with a gear 26 which is fixed on a shaft 37 revolubly mounted in brackets fixed to the tall stanchions 33. Card, cable or chain belts 38 so are looped around the end portions of said shaft and extend over pulleys 28 mounted on the standards 32. The two ends of each of said belts are secured to hooks 27 fixed respectively to the forward and rear sides of the u right frame members 9. It will thus be 0 vious that said stanchion frame may be moved back and forth, as desired, by turning the crank handle 25.
A board 10 is mounted on the stanchion frame 9 whereby same may slide up and down and same may be secured by wing nuts or other clamps. Said board is adapted for mounting or holding sensitized or coated plates, films or the like which are used in reproduction work. Said papers may be secured to said board by means of sprin or other clampsll and a roller 12, extendin across the board, may be pivoted at each en on short arms having springs adapted to hold the roller against the apers. on the board. The object in having plates with both sides transparent is to enable the apparatus to use sensitive papers or materials that are coated on both sides with emulsion or other sensitive solutions.
Slidably mounted on the side rails 15 is a sensitized paper receptacle or box 13. Said receptacle is light proof and is adapted to'contain a roll of sensitized paper as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The end portion of said paper may be drawn through a narrow slot in the top of the receptacle and secured to the board'lt) by the clamps ll'and roller 12 and a blade 14 is ivotally connected to the top of said box w ereby the paper may be out 01f. T-members 39 are slidably mounted on the rails 15 and are provided with upstanding arms 40. The ends of the boxare provided with small brackets 41 that are adapted to receive said upstanding arms whereby the receptacle or box may be detached when desired.
A light proof casing 19 is secured to the tall stanchions 33 and its rear end is open into the dark room and its bottom'serves as a mounting for the crank 25 and its worm. The front wall of said casing has an aperture therein and a lens hood 2 has its large open end pi'votally mounted therein as shown at g). Said hood is internally provided with frames 42 for carrying suitable negative holders. The small end of said hood is provided with the usual lens mounting 1 and, as"
indicated in dotted lines in Fi 1, the hood may be swung through an arc of one hundred and eighty degrees. A light shield 4 is reversible and is arranged in any desirable manner to close the crevices in the casing around the hood. The front end rail 35 of the stationary frame is provided with a pair of spaced apart forwardly projecting arms 43 and the forward ends of said arms are connected to a pair of braces 17 which convergently extend forward to a connection with a central stationary pivot post 18.
The movable or pivotal frame, which will now be described, is rectangular in shape and is disposed entirely outside of the dark room. Said frame COIHPIISGS'H. pair of side rails 16 that are retained in parallel spaced apart relation by a rear end rail 44 and a front end rail 45. A T-arm 46 is centrally secured to the rail 44 and is pivotally connected to the post 18. A pair of standards or legs 47 extend downwardly from the ends of the front rail 45 to the floor but are not connected thereto. It will thus be obvious ether at one edge and the frame that the entire movable frame may be, swung image on the sheet that is to be copied is reversed.
The sheets to be reproduced are secured to the transparent face of a frame 8 which is hingedly connected at its lower end to a board 6 and adapted to be detached therefrom. The board 6 is adapted for mounting drawings, maps and the like and has a drop center pivotally connected thereto and may be lowered as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. Said board is mounted on a somewhat tall stanchion frame 7 whose legs are slidably mounted on the side rails 16 and extend downward,
ly to a swivel connection with trucks 49 having castors which roll on the floor when the pivotal frame, asa whole, is swungaround and when said gitudinally of said frame. The means for moving the stanchion frame Tbaek and forth comprises a crank handle 20 connected to a drum 21 having a. wire, chain or other cable 50 looped thereon and extending around a gear or pulley 24 centrally mounted on the front end rail 45 of the frame. The ends of said cable are secured to hooks 23 fixed to the stanchion frame 7 and it will be apparent that said stanchion frame may be moved either forwards or backwards by a crank 20 and drum 21 which are mounted on the bottom of the casing 19. The two respective parts-of the cable 50 ride on pulleys or gears 22 revolubly mounted on the pivot post 18. Both parts of said cable engage said pulleys on the left hand side of the stanchion frame so they will not be detached therefrom when stanchion frame is moved lonthe movable or pivotal frame is swung around increase or decrease the light on the drawings secured to the board 6 or to the faces 1 of the frame 8 the stanchion frame 5 is moved toward or from said board by hand as will be understood. The cranks 20 and 25 are placed adjacent each other and close to the lens hood 2 so that the entire device may be manipulated by a single operator stationed name at said lens hood. It will be understood that means is provided for moving said stanchion frame and also the stanchion frame 9 so that the desired size of the finished reproduction made on the sensitized papers secured to the board 10 may be obtained. It will also be understood that the purpose in using the hinged frame 8 with transparent faces is that a number of small drawings may be placed therein and reproduced at one and the same time.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is l 1. In a photo copying ap aratus the combination with a stationary f i-ame adapted to be mounted in a dark roomhaving a doorway therein and with one of its ends disposed within the doorway, and a movable frame pivotally connected to the stationary frame outs de of the dark room and adapted to be moved at right angles to the stationary frame, of a casing arranged to close the doorway and having its rear end open to the dark room and an aperture in its front wall, a lens hood pivotally mounted in said aperture and adapted to swing to a reversed position, and means for closing the aperture around the hood.
2. A com'b'nation a stationary frame, a movable frame pivotally connected to the stationary frame, a hood and lens mounted on the stationary frame adjacent its connection with the movable frame, a stanchion frame slidably movable on the stationary frame, a board mounted on said stanchion frame, reel means whereby the stanchion frame is moved longitudinally of the stationary frame, and a sensitized paper carrying receptacle detachably and slidably mounted on the stationary frame in cooperative relation with the said stanchion frame.

In a photo copying apparatus the combination with a stationarv frame, a lens hood mounted on the stationary frame, and a stanchion frame and board movable on the stationary frame, of a movable frame pivotally connected to the stationary frame, a stanchion frame ed on the movable frame, reel means whereby said stanchion frame and board are moved longitudinally of the movable frame, and a light carrying stanchion frame slidably mounted on the movable frame in cooperation with the stanchion frame and board.
