'My invention relates to ventilators, and while primaril intended for stoves, it will be obvious that t e device may be successfully em loyed for any other purposes wherein it is ound to be a plicable.
Important ob ects of the invention areto provide a ventilator of the character described, which will efit'ectively remove and dissipate noxious fumes, odors and vitiated air concomitant with the operation of a cooking stove, and which may readily be installed to any type of stove already constructed as well as form a component part of the stove structure.
5 Further objects of the invention are to provide a device of the class stated, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, durable and eflicient in its use, compact, attractive in appearance, positive in its action, adjustable and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, install, operate and maintain.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description progresses, the inventlon consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but it is to be understood that the latter is O merely illustrative of an embodiment of the invention, and that the actual needs of manufacture and practice may necessitate certaln mechanical variations from the disclosure thereof herein illustrated It is therefore, not
5 intended to limit the invention to the embodiment thereof disclosed in the drawing, but rather to define such limitations in the scope of the claim hereunto appended.

My improved ventilator is positioned above and spaced from the top 2 of the stove 1, and carriedby a suitable support 3, which is preferably mounted at the rear of the stove 1.
The ventilator comprising a hollow body portion 4, which is divided by a horizontally extending partition wall 5 to provide a lower passage chamber 6 and an upper fan chamber 7. A fan 8 is mounted in the fan chamber 7 and operated by an electric motor 9. The latter is supported on the top of the body portion 4 and suitably joined with the fan 8 to operate the latter within the fan chamber 8.
A passage opening 10 is formed in the partition wall 5 to establish communication between the passage chamber 6 and the fan chamber 7. A longitudinally extending inlet passage slot 11 is formed in the bottom 12 of the passage chamber 6. The passage slot 11 is preferably disposed adjacent to the front of the body portion 4 and extends throughout the length of the latter.
An adjusting plate 13 is shiftably mounted against the under side of the bottom 12, and has its ends respectively engaged in a pair of guides 14 fixed to the bottom 12. The plate 13 is provided with a depending lip 15 having a threaded aperture for the engagement of an adjusting screw 16. The latter extends through an aperture provided in a depending lip 17 carried at the front of the bottom 12. The plate 13 extends parallel to the bottom slot 11 and the adjustment of the screw 16 will shift the plate 13 forwardly or rearwardly to provide a passage slot area to best meet conditions found in practice. An outlet passage neck 18 is formed at the rear of the fan chamber 7 for connecting a flue or stove pipe 19 therewith. The latter communicates with the chimney in the usual manner.
During the operation of the ventilator, all fumes and vitiated air emanating from the stove 1 will be drawn upwardly through the slot 11 into the passage chamber 6, through the opening 10 into the fan chamber 8, and then removed through the neck 17 and flue ipe 18, as clearly indicated by arrows in i ure 1.
. he present invention provides a most efficient device of its kind, which will function effectively to remove and dissipate fumes,-
odors and vitiated air from the vicinity of its location, and which may be so cheaply constructed and operated as to render same available for home use as well as in institutions and the like.
What I claim is In combination, a stove ventilator comrising a hollow body portion, a horizontaly extending partition wall in said body portion and dividing the interior of the latter into a passage chamber and a fan chamber, a suction fan mounted in said fan chamber, a motor for driving said fan and mounted on the top of said body portion, said parti- .tion wall having a passage opening disposed directly beneath said fan, the bottom of said passage chamber having an air inlet slot at the front thereof, a pair of guides carried by said bottom and disposed at respective ends of said air inlet slot, a plate shiftably mounted in said pair of guides and provided with a depending lip, a depending lip carried by said body portion, and an adjusting screw engaging said depending lips and operable for shifting said plate to regulate said air inlet passage, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
