In window construction, a sash guide element for extension in the side rail of a Window sash, a pair of opposed spaced latching elements adapted to be mounted in said rail, one of said elements of the pair being shiftable and the other supporting the shift able element, a resilient retaining element interposed between said latching elements and supported by the said other latching element and acting on said shiftable element of the pair, said guide element extended between the outer ends of the latching elements and normally acted upon by said shiftable element for latching the sash in set position, a shifting member for said shiftable element, and a movable actuating element adapted to be connected to the window sash and engaging when upwardly moved said member for actuating the latter to shift said shiftable element against the action of the retaining element to release the sash.

In window construction, a sash guide element for extension in the side rail of a window sash, apair of opposed spaced latching elements adapted to be mounted in said rail, one of said elements of the pair being shiftable and the other supporting the shiftable element, a resilient retaining element interposed between said latching elements and supported by the said other latching element and acting on said shiftable element'of the pair, said guide element extended between the outer'ends of the latching elements and normally acted upon by said shiitable element for latching the sash in set position, a shifting member for said shittable element, a movable actuating element adapted tobe connected to the window sash and engaging when upwardly moved said member for latching means for'each side rail of a window sash, the combination with a window frame and a window sash having its side rails opposing and spaced from the sides of the window frame, each of said rails being formed with a lengthwise groove in its outer side edge, of a pair of vertical elements, each a formed of a portion for securing against a side of the frame anda portion extending at right angles to the other portion and into a groove, a latching means carried within each side rail of the sash and'normally engaging an angularly disposed portion for latching the sash in set position, a pair of vertical members, each secured to the outer side edge of a side rail of the sash and formed witha right angularly disposed portion nesting in and slidably engaging with an angularly disposed portion of a vertical member, and spaced means carried by the sash foractuating said latching means from latching engagement with the angularly disposed portions of said elements.

In combination, a window sash having a side rail formed centrally of its outer edge with a lengthwise groove terminating at the top and bottom ofthe rail, a strip adapted to be secured to a side of a window frame, opposing that portion of said outer edge adjacent one side of the groove and formed witha right angularly disposed extension positioned in and spaced from the side walls of the grooves, latching means within said side rails and normally engaging the sides of I the" extension for latching the sash in set position, a strip secured against that portion of said outer side edge adj acent the other sideadapted to be positioned in such rail, oneof said elements of the pair belng shiitable and the other su ortin the shiitable element a retaining element interposed between said latching elements and acting on said shiftabie element, and an actuating element adapted to'be carried by the sash and coupled with the shiftable element for shifting the latter against the action of the retaining element to release the sash.
