This invention relates to a device for repointing lip sticks or the like, and the primary purpose of the invention is to provide a relatively small light portable apparatus which may be placed in a beauty parlor or the like and may be employed to re-point a lip stick after the latter has been used on one customer, so as to place it in sanitary and proper condition for use on the next customer. I

Another object of the invention is to furnish a device of this character having a movable knife which may be readily removed or detached for cleaning purposes.

' A further object is to supply such a device, including a cradle support for the lip stick; such support having stop surfaces to cooperate with the lip stick casing for gauging the amount of the lip stick that is to be severed at a single cut.

With the foregoing objects outlined and with other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing, 6 designates a base of any suitable material such as wood, preferably provided at its bottom with a felt mat 7 or the like for sound deadening purposes, and to prevent marring of any surface on which the device is placed.

A metal plate 8 is secured to the top of the base by any suitable means such as screws 9, and from this metal plate, a hollow metal shoulder 22 of the piston.

Arranged in the post is a plunger 12 having a head 13 at its upper end. The plate forms a guide aperture 14 for the plunger, and the lower end of the latter is threaded as at 15 for the engagement of a nut 16 which moves upwardly and downwardly in a vertical chamber 17 of the base, when the plunger V is reciprocated. A coil spring 18 surrounds the plunger within the post, and one of its ends bears against the head 13, and its other end against the plate 8.

From Fig. 5 it will be noted that the hollow post is of angular or square cross section, and it functions as a guide for a slidable piston 19 of similar cross section. This angular shape prevents the piston from turningin the post, and it may be seen that the piston rests on the head 13 and may be readily lifted out of the post when desired.

An arm 20 is rigidly and detachably secured to the piston by means of a detachable button or knob 21, and the arm rests on a ment prevents the arm from turning on the piston, and said arm is in the form of a plate, and is provided with a V-shaped notch 23 defined at its lower edge by a depending V-shaped knife 24.

This arrange- 5 The knife functions to point a lip stick 26 while the latter is supported by a suitable cradle 27 and it will be noted that this cradle is detachably mounted on the upper end of a post 28, which in turn has its lower end detachably secured to the plate 8 by any suitable means, such as a screw 29.

From Figs. 2 and 5, it will be seen that the cradle is semi-cylindrical in cross section, and its end, which is nearest the piston, is cut to form a V-shaped point 30 coinciding with the knife 24, and when'the knife is depressed, the guides 25 slide along the opposide side edges of the point 30 to keep the knife in register with the sides of the point 30.

It is preferred to use the device on lip sticks of the kind having a casing 31 provided at one end with a rotatable hand engaging part 32 that is used to project and retract the lip stick, and it will be noted that this element 32 projects and cooperates with the rear edge 33 of the cradle for properly placing the casing on the cradle when the stick is to be re-pointed. The upper surface of the cradle is also hollowed out to provide an arc-shaped shoulder 34 which functions as an abutment for the end 35 of the casing to prevent the latter from coming beneath the knife 24 when the stick is placed on the cradle for re-sharpening purposes.

Assuming that the device is used in a beauty parlor or the like, when the stick 26 is to be re-pointed, it is placed on the cradle support 27, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. Then the operator presses downwardly on the button 21, and the knife 24 makes a V-shaped cut in the end of the lip stick for the purpose of re-pointing the latter. WVhen the button is released, the spring 18 returns the knife 24 to its upper or normal position.

Obviously, when the piston 19 is lifted out of the post 10, the knife 24 and guides 25 may be readily cleaned, and while these parts are removed, the cradle may also be cleaned if necessary.

From the foregoing it is believed that the construction, operation and advantages of the invention may be readily understood by those skilled in the art, and it is apparent that changes may be made in the details disclosed, without departing from the spirit of the invention, as expressed in the claims.

What is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is A 1. A lip stick pointer comprising a sta- 'tionary lipstick support having a substantially V-shaped end, a spring pressed plunger mounted for reciprocation adjacent to said support, and a substantially V-shaped knife carried by the piston and adapted to repoint a lip stick resting on the support when the piston is depressed.

2. A lip stick pointer comprising a stationary cradle provided at one end with a substantially V-shaped point, a reciprocating piston arranged adjacent to said support, and a substantially V-shaped knife carried by the piston and coinciding with said point.

A lip stick pointer comprising a base, a stationary cradle support for a lip stick mounted on the base and having a substantially V-shaped point, a reciprocating piston mounted on the base, and a substantially V shaped knife coinciding with said point and adapted to point the end of a lip stick on the support when the piston is moved in one direction.

4. A lip stick pointer comprising a base, a cradle support for a lip stick mounted on the base and having a substantially V-shaped point, a reciprocating iston mounted on the base, and a substantial y V-shaped knife coinciding with said point and adapted to point the end of a lip stick on the support when the iston is moved in one direction, said crad e support being substantially semicylindrical in cross section and provided with an arc-shaped stop surface functioning as an abutment for a lip stick casing.

A lip stick pointer comprising a base, a cradle support for a lip stick mounted on the base and having a substantially V-shaped point, a reciprocating piston mounted on the base, and a substantially V-shaped knife coinciding with said point and adapted to point the end of a lip stick on the support when the piston is moved in one direction, said cradle support being substantially semi-cylindrical in cross section and provided with an areshaped stop surface functioning as an abutment for a lip stick casing, said stop surface being positioned in close proximity to the point of the cradle support.

A lip stick pointer comprising a. base, a cradle support for a lip stick mounted on the base and having a substantially V-shaped point, a reciprocating piston mountedon the base, and a substantially V-shaped knife coinciding with said point and adapted to point the end of a lip stick on the support when the piston is moved in one direction, the piston being provided with an outstanding arm, and the knife being carried by said arm.

A lip stick pointer comprising a base, a cradle support for a lip stick mounted on the base and having a substantially V-shaped point, a reciprocating piston mounted on the base, a substantially V-shaped knife coinciding with said point and adapted to point the end of a lipstick on the support when the piston is moved in one direction, an arm carried by the piston, the knife being carried by the arm, and guide means carried by the arm and adapted to slidably engage opposite sides of said point.

8. A lip stick pointer comprising a base, a hollow post supported by the base, a spring pressed plunger in the post, a piston removably connected to the post and resting on the plunger, a stationary cradle support for a lip stick mounted on the base, and a knife for pointing the lip stick mounted on the piston.

A lip stick pointer comprising a base, a hollow post supported by the base, a spring pressed plunger in the post, a piston removably connected to the post and resting on the plunger, a cradle support for a lip stick mounted on the base, and a knife for pointing the lip stick mounted on the piston, said knife and one end of the cradle support being of substantially V shaped and coinciding with one another.

10. A lip stick pointer comprising a base, a hollow post supported by the base, a spring pressed plunger in the post, a piston removably connected to the post and resting on the plunger, a cradle support for a lip stick mounted on the base, and a knife for pointing the lip stick mounted on the piston, the post and piston being angular in cross section to prevent turning of the piston.

11. A lip stick pointer comprising a base, a hollow post supported by the base, a pedestal on the base arranged parallel to the post, a spring pressed plunger in the post, a cradle support mounted on the pedestal and having a substantially V-shaped end projecting toward the post, a piston adapted to be manually depressed, extending into the post and resting on the plunger, an arm carried by and projecting from the piston, and a substantially V-shaped knife depending from the arm and coinciding with the substantially V- shaped end of the cradle support.
