IMPROVEMENT IN CAPS FOR VEHICLE-HUBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 189,437, dated April 10, 1877; application tiled March 19, 1877.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN Gr. EDGLEY, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Hubs for Vehicles, of which the t'ollowingis a specification:
My invention relates to the construction of hubs embracing an outside 'band screw, threaded, and fitted with an ornamental cap to hide the axle-nut and make an attractive outer finish to the hub 5 and my invention consists in constructing the cap to screw into said hub-band, and providing upon the same .screw an annular lock-nut, which serves to retain the cap in place secure, while under the jars and shocks to which the wheel may be v I subjected, against displacement.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective view of the cap. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the lock-nut and spanner used in securing it. Fig. 3 is an axial section of the hub with the cap and lock-nut in place.
A is the hub, and B the outer band, rmly secured thereto. This band is screw-threaded interiorly, as shown, and the cap C has an exterior screw-thread, c, to correspond, so that the cap may be fitted by said screw-threads rmly within the band. On the same exterior `set my hand.
