The primary object of my invention is the provision of a device adapted to be placed on the end of a curtain rod section of the ordinary telescopic construction to serve as a guide to permit the threading of the rod through the loop or hem of window drapes or curtains without inflicting injury thereto and which will permit of the arrangement of the curtain on the rod in an easy and expeditious manner.

To the attainment of the foregoing the invention consists in the improvement hereinafter described and definitely claimed.

As is well known the common type of curtain poles of drapery supports is of metal, the same having its edges rolled and directed toward each other to provide guides'for cooperating pole sections. Window draperies t of fine textile are hemmed at the upper edges for the passage of the pole. sections therethrough. The pole sections are not readily guided through the hem and are apt to conn tact with portions thereof which results in the tearing of the drapery and it is to obviate this that I have produced my simple improvement. v

One section of the pole or rod is indicated by the numeral 1 in Figure 1 of the drawing, 40 and the improvement comprises a head member 2 having a nose end 3 which is gradually rounded from its connection with the head or body member 2. The nose 3 is gradually decreased in thickness from its juncture with the opposed flat faces of the heador body 2 and likewise is decreased in width from its juncture with the rounded sides 4 of the said head or body to the outer rounded end 5 of. the nose. None of the side corners or edges. of either the head or body or the nose end 3 thereof present any sharpened or abrupt surfaces but the rear end of the head or body 2 is straight and from this straight endthe said body is provided with an inner socket 6. One of the flat walls of the body of the said straight end thereof is formed centrally with a downwardly directed lip 7 and this lip is designed to be received in a notch 8 on an arched spring tongue 9 that is centrally formed and extends from the inner and rounded end 10 of the flat spring clamping plate 11. The upper or rounded end of the plate projects a suitable distance beyond the mner and straight end of the head or body 2 and the plate 11 is of a width to be received between the rolled edges of the rod 1 and of a length to exert a sufficient frictional contact with the inner wall of the said rod 1 and force the end thereof against one of the side walls provided by the bore 6, the spring tongue 9 materially assisting the plate 10 into such frictional contact.

When the pilot or guide is applied to the rod the said rod can be threaded through the hem of a curtain or like drapery in an easy and expeditious manner and without liabi1- ity' of injury to the said drapery. The device may be readily applied to or detached from the curtain pole and the tongue 9 is of a width to be received between the inturned edges of the pole guide. The spring clamping plate may have its tongue fixedly connectedwith the lip 7, which may be found desirable, although the tension exerted by the tongue 9 will hold the plate in the socket of the head or body 2. V

It is thought the foregoing description will fully and clearly set forth the construction and advantages of my improvement so that further detailed description will not be required.

Having described the invention, I claim:

1. A curtain rod attachment comprising a headmember of substantially rectangular formation but having one of its ends round ed and reduced in width and in thickness from the sides to the opposite faces of thehead and the said end and the cornersof the said end being rounded, said head having a socketentering from its inner end, a

tongue integrally formed at the center of spring plate received in and projecting through the socket, and an arched spring the inner end of the plate, engaging with one of the walls of the socket andexerting a tension thereagainst to cause the plate to normally frictionally contact with the second wall of the socket.

2. A curtain rod attachment, comprising a head, having a nose end, said head having its opposed faces flat and parallel and the nose being reduced in thickness from its juncture with said faces to its outer end, the corners of the head being rounded as arethe corners r of the nose. said head, from its end opposite that provided with the nose beingformed with rectangular sockets and with a lip that extends into the socket, arod clamping spring plate received in the socket and having an' inner rounded endthat is centrally formed with an arched tongue whose outer endis notched to receive the lip of the head therein;
