This invention relates to machines for issuing tickets from a strip of web and of thetype in which a rotary feed drum driven by means of a Maltese-cross or Geneva mechanism, is provided upon its periphery at regular intervals with pins arran ed to extend through holes formed in the ticket strip or web so as to feed the web when the drum rotates, and a knife, actuated-at the completioniof each revolution of the pin-wheel of.

According to this invention there -is-provided a ticket issuing machine of the type grouped for operation by a single motor to formone machine, each mechanism being rovided with a key lever or bank of-key vers so that tickets of difierent denominations may be issued from the machine. Each ticket issuing mechanism comprises a bank of keys 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 pivotally mounted at 6 to the frame-7 of the mechanism and maintained in a normally raised position byv springsk8.-",'Each key leveris provided with a heel- 9,- finger and. differential abutment 11, the heels 9 and fingers 10 respectively of each of the keys being normally aligned with one another. The free ends of the fingers 10 are located beneath one arm 12 of a doublearmed trigger leverpivotally mounted at 13 to the frame 7. the abutments 11 of the undepressed keys 1 to .4 being located out of the path of movement of the said cross-head. In the depressed position of the key lever'5, the heel 9 thereof 1 abuts against the cross-head 62 and maintains 60 so that the forked arm 30' of the corresponding bell crank lever maintains the sleeve 31 in the position illustrated in Figure 2 against the pressure of the spring 36. Upon release of the depressed key lever 5 the pawls 16, 22 are the plunger 18 by the spring 26 and simultaneously the spring 36 moves the sleeve 31 in the direction of the arrow 6, Figure 2, and establishes an operative connection between the corresponding gear wheels 35 and 37, the edges of the teeth of the said wheels preferably being bevelled to'assist such moved into engagement with the the plunger 61 in engagement with the tappet I engagement. This action facilitates the disengagement of the wheel 35 from the wheel 37.
It will be observed that if any other of the I keys 1 to 5 should be depressed, the resulting movement of the plunger 18 is limited by the difierential abutment 11 of the key operated which is caused to extend into the path of movement of the cross-head 20 and this movement corresponds to a number of the teeth 17 equal to the number of tickets it is required to deliver. The pawls "16 and .22 are arranged to re-engage with the teeth 17 before the-abutment 11 is moved clear of the cross-head 20 during the return movement of the depressed key and the plunger 18 is always returned to the normal position by the pawl 22 when the requisite number of tickets ave been delivered. A ticket issuing machine which comprises in combination a rotary feed drum provided with peripheral pins adapted to extend through holes formed in a ticket strip whereby rotation of said drum feeds said strip, a Geneva mechanism operatively connected to said drum and operable upon each actuation to rotate said drum and feed one ticket from the machine, an electric motor, a switch for the circuit-of said motor, gear mechanism adapted to couple said motor to said Geneva mechanism and normally uncoupled, a normally locked toothed ratchet member 'operatively connected to'said gear mechanism and-operable to be moved in one direction from the locked position by i a yielding control to efiect an actuation of said gear to couple said motor and movable thereafter in the op osite direction by a pawl coupled to said eneva mechanism a unitary amountfor each ticket delivered and finally to actuate said gear and uncouplesaid motor, a plurality of selector keys each operable to' unlock said ratchet member, difi'erential abutment mechanism controlled by said keys and operable to limit the extent of movement of said ratchet member by said 'yielding control an amount equal to one or aplu rality of said unitary amounts in accordance with the key operated, and an operative con-- nection between the motor switch and the gear mechanism operable to close said switch after the motor is coupled by the gear mechanism and to open the switch when the numberof tickets corresponding to the -key-se lected have been-delivered.
