SKYLIGHT LIFTER Filed July 9, 1929 2 Sheet-Sheet 2 j gz:
' /f 74 V o 77 nnmnnnnnnnnnnnnn! i nnnmnnnnnnnnnnnn Attorney Patented Dec. 13, 1932' UNITED STATES PAT ENT OFFICE SKYLIGHT LIFTER Application filed July 9,
The present invention relates to a lifter for skylights and the like and has for its prime object to provide a mechanism of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong and durable, easy to manipulate, compact and convenient in its arrangement of parts, easy to install, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use and operation, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other ob iects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the apparatus embodying the features of my invention showing the same incorporated with a skylight associate structure,
Figure 2 is another elevation thereof taken at right angles to that shown in Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a bracket,
Figure 4 is a detail sectional view taken approximately on the line H of Figure 2, and
Figure 5 is a disassembled perspective view of parts disposed adjacent the skylight.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a skylight hingedly mounted as at 6 and the numeral 7 denotes a wall. The elements thus far described have been merely mentioned for the purpose of bringing out the utility and operation of my improved mechanism.
The numeral 8 denotes a bracket adapted to be mounted on the wall 7 and comprises a pair of triangular plates at held in spaced relationship by a rectangular plate 5 and rectangular flanges c extend from the plates a and are fastended to the wall 7. A pin 9 has a fork 10 attached thereto which is pivotally engaged as at A with the bracket 8. A lazy tong structure is mounted on the wall 7 comprising 1929. Serial N0. 376,942.
two pairs of links 11 held in spaced relation by a spacer 12 on the pin 9, and having at their upper ends links 14 attached thereto pivotally and also pivotally engaged at pin 15, spacer 16 thereover, and arm 17 on the spacer pivotally engaged between the ears 18 on a plate 19 anchored to the skylight 5. The lower ends of the links 12 are pivotally enga ed by pins 20 with arms 21 on nuts 22.
pacers 23 are disposed on the pins 20 to hold the extremities of the arms 21 and the levers ll apart. A shaft 24 has oppositely threaded end portions through the nuts 22. A pulley 25 is on the center of the shaft 24 and chain 26 trained thereover.
From the above detailed description it will be quite obvious that by pulling on the chain 26 to rotate the pulley 25 the shaft 24 may be rotated in either directions for actuating the lazy tong structure to raise or close the skylight 5.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practiee it attains the features of advantage enu- 75.
merated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of constructiion, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
An a tuator of the character described comprising a pair of lazy-tong structures, each structure being built up of a plurality of pivotally connected sections, the ends of the sections at one end of each lazy-tong structure Q.-
being connected together and adapted for attachment to the body to be actuated, nuts between the lazy-tong structures at the opposite end thereof, a screw threaded through the 5 structure, said screw being provided with right and left handed threads, the right h anded threads being for one of the nuts and the left handed threads being for the other nut,
a pin connecting the lazy-tong structures together at their intermediate portions and projecting beyond one of the said structures, and
a stationary bracket to which said pin is pivotally secured.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MAC B. ADAMS.
