N ECTICUT Y ATTACHINC DEVICE Application led May 6, 17932. SerialNo, 609,735.
Other objects and features of novelty will` be apparent as the following description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Y Figure 1 is a front elevation of a preferred embodiment of the present invention; v
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail view `of the same, parts being broken away and shown in section to illustrate the construction;
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the top por..- tion of Figure 2, similarly broken away a with the key remo-ved;
Figure 4 is a section taken along the -line 4-4 of Figure 1; and
Figure 5 is a section taken 'along the line 5-5 of Figure 2. e l
The attaching device comprises a movable,
preferably swiveled, socket for receiving the element to be attached, so that the element may not be disconnected unless the swivel isV held from moving with the element, preferably by locking the swivel. v
In the form shown, the relatively movable parts comprise a shell 10 and a socket member 11, preferably swiveled thereto; The
shell 10 is tethered, preferably by a bead c,
chain 12 secured to the shell by a bail 13. The socket member 11 receives the end of a pencil 14, shown as an example of the element which may be attached. Y
The socket member 11 has a conical internally threaded recess 15, into which the end of the pencil 14 may be screwed,whenthe member 11 is held against moving with the pencil. For this purpose a nonfcircular portion is providedl yfor the member 11, such-asv a groove 16, which may receive a keyv 17. e v
An aperture '18- is provided in the shell to Y admit the key '17 to the noncircularportion 16. A portion o f the shell' 10 is of reduced 55 diameter, forming an annular .shoulder 19, and a skirt portion 20. The shoulder 19 re! tains the member 1 1 swiveled in the shell, y e
while the skirt portion 2O forms a mouth laligned. with the recess 15, to guide the end of v the pencil 14 into the socket.
TheA shell 10 .may comprise a metal tubular wall 21 and a metal cap 22 suitably secured thereto. In the form shown', the cap 22 has a dependingannular flange 23 inside the wall 65' 21. With this arrangement, the socket mem ber 11 has a surface ofV revolution 24 swiveled in the shell between the shoulder 19 andthe rim of the flange 23.y The upper rimV of the wallr2'1 is preferably crimped or spunover 0 the edgeof the cap as at 25, andthe ends of the bail 13 .pass through apertures 26 `in the wall 21, `into'slots 27 in the flange-23. VThe aperture'18 which admits the key may be a d rectangular slotsformed inthe top ofthe cap 22.r n e With the device as described above, the 'key is inserted through the slot 1,8'into the-groove 16; The end ofthe .pencil 14 is thenscrewed into'thesocket `15. Thekey is then removed. 80
The'pencil kmay not be removed, as any turning thereof willmerely turn the swiveled socket'. *TheV pencil may be replaced byv again f inserting the key to holdthe sock'etand per- ,85
mit the .pencil tobe unscrewedl The invention is nottobe limited to the details disclosed, but instead the-invention ineludes such embodimentsof the broad idea as' fall within the Vscope of the appended claims. l.,Iclaimz-j; f
