The present invention relates to a combinaat the bottom and continuing through a neck tion apparatus having incorporated therein 7 which rises from the base. Numeral 8 the features of a floor lamp, a reading or denotesa removable closure plate for the botmusic stand etc. 7 v tom of the recess. Numeral 9 denotes a The prime object of the invention resides spring housing resting on. the plate 8 and I: in the provision of a combination apparatus having a central. pin projecting upwardly of this'nature wherein the structure is simple, therefrom on which is journalled a spool 11. easy to manipulate, compact and convenient A spring 12of the coil type has one endanin its arrangement of parts, strong and durchored to the pin 10 and the other end anable, thoroughly eiiicient and reliable in use choredto the housing 9. This pin 10 is fixed and operation, not likely to easily become out in the spool 11 and is rotatable in the botof order, and otherwise well adapted to the tom of the housing 9. Below the spring 12 purpose for which it is designed. there is fixed on the pin 10 an annular ratchet With the above and numerous other obl3'to cooperate with spring pressed pawls 14: 65

The conductor 15 is engaged base formed with the recess 6 therein open with thecol d 23 n Conductors end of the bar 35.
26 and 31 are connected respectively to conduotors 32 and 33. a
A cylindricallike shell 34 rises from the neck 7 and is fixed thereto and the upper end is reduced in diameter as is clearly illustrated in Figure and a bar 35 has its up-.
per end fixed in said constricted upper end of the shell and extends down longitudinally therethrough. The conductor .32 extends through the bar 35. A cap 36 is mounted on the upper end of the shell 34 and a. stem 37 is disposed therein extending into the upper The conduit or conductor 33 extends through this stone and through arms 38 projecting from the stem and through openings in the cap 36 and having incandescent bulbs 39 mounted on the outer ends thereof in the usual well known manner.
A shade frame 40 on the upper end of the stem 37 above the cap 36 support a frustoconical shade or the like41.
i On opposite sides of the upper portion of the bar 35 are longitudinally extending dove tailed grooves 42 in which are slid able dove- F tailed shoes 43 and 44. These. shoes 43 are adjustable up and down and may be held in different adjusted positions by means of pins 44a extending through openings therein and engageable in notches 45 formed in the kerfs of the grooves 42.
A pair of lazytougs 46 have their inner ends engaged with shoes 44 and 43 and on their outer ends have hingcdly mounted as at 47 holders 48 with breakable braces 49 associated therewith. These holders 48am adapted to hold books, music and the like. An incandescent electric light 50 is mount-ed on each holder and the conduits .33 lead thereto 4 being trained over pulleys 51 on arms 52pmjecting from the shoes 43. If the holders 48 are to be lowered, the pins 44.12 are removed from beneath the lower shoes 44, and after lowering the lazy tong structures, the pins can bereplaced under the upper shoes 44, with the holder 48 in a lowered position 'beneath the shade 41.
The lazy tongs and the conductors 33 extend through slots 53 provided in opposite sides of the shell 34. The pins 44 are also projected through these slots so as to be accessible from the exterior of the shells. Springs 54 are anchored on the conduits 33 and are anchored in the neck 7 by suitable means 55 so that when the lazy tongs are collapsed the surplus portions of theconductors 33 are housed within the shell as will be quite apparent.
As shown in Fig. 1, the holders 48 are capable of being adjusted toward or away fromthe shell 3-4, the lazy tong structures beingsubstantially extended in'Figs. l and 2.
It is thought that th construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled tion thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features ofadvantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. V i
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: V
1. In combination, a lamp including a shade and a post for supportingv the shade, an article holder, a lazy tong structure: between the article holder and the post, and a slidable connection between the lazy tong structure and the post whereby the lazy tong structure can be disposed within the confines of the shade when collapsed.
2. In combination, a lamp including a shade and a. post for supporting the shade, an article holder, a lazy tong structure between the article holder and the post, a slidable connection between the lazy tong structure and the post whereby the lazy tong structure can be disposed within the confines of the shade when collapsed, said post being provided with a slot therein, and blocks on the inner end of the lazy tong structure for riding engagemen with the said slot.
3. In combination, a lamp including a shade and a post for supporting the shade, an article holder, a lazy tong structure between the article holder and the post, a slidable connection between the lazy tong structure and the post whereby the lazy tong structure can be disposed within the confines of the shade when collapsed, said post being provided with a slot therein, blocks on the inner end of the lazy tong structure for riding engagement with the said slot, said post being provided with a plurality of vertically spaced recesses, one of said blocks being provided with an opening therethrough and a pin disposable through the said opening and into any one of the said recesses. f
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
