An object of the invention is to provide a toilet article having a pumice back with a cavity in which the back of a brush is secured.

In the manufacture of the toilet article, a.V mould is prepared having a proJection to form the cavity 5 in the pumice and powdered pumice, mixed with silicate of soda, is disposed in this mould and is annealed, the mould being removed from the powdered 49 pumiceearly in the annealing process so that the shrinkage of the powdered pumice with the silicate binder will not serve to break or crack the powdered pumice with its silicate binder. f
