This invention relates to means for bleaching yarn in packages or on a beam and com- 1prises means whereby a beam or a package older can be laced in the machine and the yarn thereon leached or otherwise treated with a suitable fluid and removed therefrom by means of an overhead travelling hoist or any other suitable conveying means. I
I An object of this invention is to provide a machine-for bleaching yarn while the same is wound on a beam or on packages which are placed on a package holder so that the yarn can be bleached in the package or beam form.

Referring more particularly to the draw- 5 ings, the numeral 10 indicates a base for a' thereof with a valve stem 19 for operating the valve.
Supports 20' and21 support a frame work 22 on which is mounted a vat member 23 which has side portions 24, 25, 26, and 27 therearound which are lined with a non-corand onthe inside of the vat a member 32 is secured by means of screws 33 which are .threadablyembedded in member 30 thus forming a water-tight oint. This member 32 v flares outwardly and has a lead seat 33 which i is circular in the top portion thereof which is adapted to serve as a seat for the circular portion 34 of package holder 35, said package older having a plenum chamber 36 and a plurality of perforated pipes 37 are secured in this member said pipes being perforated and'around which pipes packages of yarn 38 are adapted to be placed, and bolts 39 around the periphery of member 35 are secured in place with a central bolt 40, said bolts 40 and 39 projecting upwardly and being ada ted to be releasably secured to a head mem r 41 which is-adapted to hold the packages on the perforated pipes and this member 41 has eyes 42 therein which are adapted to be engaged by a suitable overhead travelling hoist, not shown, which is adapted to be mounted on the trackway 43.
Secured in a like manner as described for member 32 is a member 45 which has a lead seat 46 therein adapted to serve as a seat for the circular portion 47 on the end 48 of beam member 49, said-beam member being adapted to have wound thereon yarn, but in the drawings this beam is shown without any yarn thereon. 1
t The beam member 49 is hollow! and has a plurality of ring members 50 mounted on spacers 50a on bolts 501) which bolts secure the end member 48 with end member 51 on the other end thereof, said end member 51 being identical with end member 48. This en member also is open and in this bleaching machine it is adapted to be closed by means of a member 52 which has a lead seat 53 therein which is adapted to coincide with circular portion 54 on the endmember 51 and this member 52 has eyes 55 therein for handling the same and a member 56 is adapted to press against this member 52 to hold it seated while the bleaching operation is being carried out. This member 56 is loosely secured to a threaded member 57 which has a nut 58 loosely secured thereon, said nut being threadably secured on the interior of member 56 and member 57 having an enlargement 59 thereon.
The vat is supported at its corners by the members 20 and 21 and at the upper ends of members 20 a member 61 is pivotally secured by means of a pin or bolt 62 ,and this is fixedly secured to a member 63 and pivotally secured to member 63 as at 64 is a member 65 which is similar to member 61 which is detachably secured to members 20 or 21 as the case may be, as at 66 and the member 63 has secured thereto a longitudinally disposed member 67 which has threadably mounted therein the vertically disposed member 57 which has been previously described and also an other threaded member 57a, the member 57 having thereon a hand wheel 68 and member 57a havin thereon a hand wheel 69 for adjustin said members vertically with relation to theieam or package holder. Member 57a has on the lower end thereof an arrangement similar to that shown in Figure 6 and this enlarged member which is indicated by reference character 56 in Figure 6 while the beam holding device is indicated by reference character 70 on the member 57a.
At the one corner of the vat member there is secured an outlet 75, which outlet is secured in the bottom portion 23 and this outlet is connected to a T member 76 which also is connected to a T-member 77 which T member has secured to that a valve 78 and to another portion of T member 77 is secured a valve 79 and to the other end of valve 79 is secured a slug catcher housing 80, said slug catcher being more fully shown in Figures 4 and 5. This slug catcher housing 80 has a verticallfy disposed circular cavity indicated by re erence character 81 and vertically disposed grooves 82 appear in the side walls of this housing in which is removably mounted a perforated partition member 83 which has an enlargement 84 at the top thereof for gripping the same and this member 83 has a plural ity of perforations 85a therein to allow the fluid to pass therethrough but to catch foreign and solid matter to prevent it from entering the pump 12. This housing is closed by a cap member 85 which cap member is held in close position by means of a member 86 having a screw 87 therein which is adapted to fit into cavity 88 in cap member 85 and the lower ends of the member 86 are adapted to engage beneath the flange 90 on the upper end' of housing 80 to hold the cap member 85 onto housing 80.
Connected to the other side 0t slug catcher housing 80 is a. pump member 12 which has previously been described.
A thermometer 93 and a pressure gage 94: are clamped into pipe 16 to indicate the temperature of the fluid used'and also the pressure under which the system is working at all times.
A suitable pipe, not shown, can be connected to the end 95 of valve 78 to act as a drain for the system. pipe 96 is led from a source of steam supply with a valve, not shown, therein for controlling the'amount of steam which is allowed to enter into the bleacher. This pipe 96 is connected to T 76.
Pipe 97 is led from a source of water supply and connected to the system as to the sidewall of the slug catcher casing 80, by means of which water can be added to the system.
The entire system which is exposed to the bleaching fluid is composed of brass such as the pump, the pipes, the members 45 and 32. The members 30 which are seated in the floor of the vat and secured to the beam 22 by means of screws 30a have a brass member 306 forming the opening therethru and which is pressed into the opening in members 30.
The lining 28 of the vat is preferably of a metal comprising a nickel-copper alloy.
In the drawings and specification there has been set forth a'preferred embodiment of the invention and although specific terms are employed they are used in a generic and descriptive sense only, and not for purposes of limitation, the scope or the invention being set forth in the appended claims.
I claim: I
1. In a bleaching machine for yarn and the like, a pump, and means for driving the pump, a pipe leading from one side of the pump, a vat, connections leadin from said pipe thru the bottom of sai vat, each connection having thereon a seat member ada ted to serve as a seat for a yarn beam, package holder and the like, a cover for the upper end of the beam, a collapsible frame disposed above the vat, clamping means in the frame for engagin said cover on the beam, the upper end 0 the package holder and the like to hold the same on said seats, an out-going pipe connected to the bottom of the vat and leading to the other side of said seat, detachable and removable means for closing the other end of said yarn holder, said pump and pipe being adapted'to force a fluid thru the yarn holders "and the yarn thereon, and means for leading the fluid back to said pump from said vat, said closing means comprising a framework pivotally secured to one side of the vat and removably secured to the other side of the vat and clamp ing members in said framework for exerting pressure on the upper ends of said yarn holders to hold said removable means in position on some of said yarn holders and to exert downward pressure on all of said yarn holders to cause them to engage their respective seat members.
3. In a bleaching machine for yarn and the like, a pump, means for driving the pump, a pipe leading from one side of the pump, a vat, connections leading from said pipe thru the bottom of said vat, each connection having thereon a seat member adapted to serve as a seat for a yarn holder, an out going pipe connected to the bottom of said vat and'leading to the other side of said pump, a'strainer mounted in said outgoing pipe, means for admitting steam to said systerm, means for adding water to said system, a collapsible framework secured above the vat and having clamping means for engaging the upper ends of the yarn holders.
4. In a bleacher, means for holding a plurality of hollow yarn holders, means for closing one end of some of the yarn holders, means for forcing a bleaching fluid thru the yarn holders and the yarn woundthereon, means for collectingthe fluid after it has passed thru the yarn and returning said fluid to said forcing means, means for admittlng steam to the bleacher, means for admitting water 'to the system, a collapsible frame mounted above the yarn holders, and clamping means in said frame for engaging the closing means for one end of the yarn holders.
5. In a bleacher for textile fibres, means for forcing a fluid thru a system of pipes, means for detachably connecting hollow yarn holders to said system of pipes, removable means for holding said yarn holders in connected position, means for collecting the fluid after it has passed thru the yarn holders and the yarn wound thereon and returning it to said forcing means, means for ad- Initting steam to said pipes, and means for admitting water to said system of pipes, said removable means comprising a collapsible.
framework having clamping members for engaging the yarn holders and holding the same in connected position.
6. In a device for treating yarn,-a pump and means for driving the same, a pipe leading from one side of said pump, a vat, conncctions from said pipe to the interior of said vat, a lead seat member in the end of tures.
