This invention relates to display devices for use in displaying articles of merchandise for ready inspection by the purchaser. An object is to produce a simple and inexpensive j display device in the form of an article holder, which may be collapsed for shipment, or when not in use, but may be easily unfolded to position of use.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and, for purposes of illustration, but not of limitation, embodiments of the invention are shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the holder is formed;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the blank from which the shaper member is formed, which member serves to hold the article holder in unfolded or useful relation;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the article holder in position of use;
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the upper end of the article holder showing the shaper member in assembled relation;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the shaper member partially folded;
Figure 6 is a plan view of the article holder in folded position;
Figure 7 is an edge view of the holder 30 shown in Figure 6; and
Figure 8 is a perspective view of a standard for supporting the holder.
The illustrated embodiment of the invention comprises a display device comprising an article hold-er 10 of pyramidal shape in this instance, having four triangular shaped side panels 11 which incline upwardly and in wardly to the top in which is provided an opening 12. As shown in Fig. 1, the holder 10 is formed from a blank of paste board, card board, or other suitable bendable or foldable material, and folds or creases are made along the dotted lines 13, after which the holder is folded into the shape shown in Fig. 3, and a flap 1 1 on one end of the blank overlaps the adjacent panel and is glued or otherwise suitably secured in place.
It is apparent that the underside of the holder 10 is open, and articles of merchandise, such as gloves, are suspended from the lower edges of the holder. In this instance fasteners or clamps 15 are hooked into apertures 16 in the side panels 11 adjacent the lower edges thereof. It is manifestthat any number of clamps or hooks may be positioned along the lower edges of the panels from which articles may be suspended.
In order to retain the article holder in unfolded position for display purposes, a shaper 16 in the form of a separate piece is inserted inside of the holder adjacent the smaller end thereof. As shown in Figures 2 and 5, the shaper member is formed from a blank 17 of paste board, card board, or the a like, and is provided with four triangular panels 18 and a bottom 19. The panels 18 are folded along fold lines 19, as'shown in Fig. 5, and are preferably left free. It is to be understood that the panels 18 incline up- I wardly and inwardly to a relatively small 71 end similar to the article holder 10 so that when the shaper is in the position shown in Fig. 4, the side panels 11 of the article holder will be retained in the desired position of use. For supporting the article holder a cord 20 having a knotted lower end 21 is inserted through an opening 22 in the base 19 of the shaper. The cord extends through the openr ing 12 in the smaller end of the article holder, and may be connected to any suitable support. It is apparent that the holder may be hung in any desired place, such as above a counter, in position where it can be-readily seen. The panels 11 may contain any suit- 'able advertising matter regarding the merchandise offered for sale.
A valuable feature of the invention resides in the co-llapsibility of the holder, and, as shown in Figs. 6 and 7 the holder may be collapsed so that the panels lie flat to occupy a minimum of space. The shaper is also collapsible so as to occupy but a relatively small amount of space. This is of importance in shipping the display device since it can be enclosed within the carton containing the merchandise without additional shipping cost. Obviously, the device can be readily and conveniently unfolded to position of use without expert knowledge or skill.
The holder may be supported on a standard 23 instead of being suspended by the cord 20 The standard 23 is formed of a single length of Wire bent to provide an annular base 24: and an upright post 25 and an abutment or supporting portion 26 adjacent the upper end of the post. Above the bent abutment portion 26 is an extension 27, which is adapted to project into the opening 22 in the base of the shaper, and thus support the article holder. The base of the holder may rest on the support or abutment member 26.
It is to be understood that numerous changes in details of construction, arrangement and choice of materials may be effected without departing from the spirit of the invention, especially as defined in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A display device comprising a pyramidal-shaped holder having an open outer end and a plurality of panels adapted to be folded together in flat relation, a separate member of substantially pyramidal form adapted to fit inside of said holder at the small end thereof and to contact throughout its side area with said holder, said member comprising a sheet of relatively stiff material folded to provide a bottom and side panels corresponding to the panels of said holder, and a support engaging the bottom of said mernher for mounting said holder in position of use.
2. A display device comprising a multipaneled article-holder, the panels of which incline upwardly and inwardly substantially to a point, said holder being adapted tobe collapsed to a flat condition, a shaper of substantially pyramidal form inside of said holder and adapted to contact throughout its side area with said holder to hold same in unfolded position, and a support for said holder connected to said shaper and extending upwardly through the upper end of said holder.
3. A display device comprising a multi paneled article-holder, the panels of which incline upwardly and inwardly substantially to a point, said holder being adapted to be collapsed to a flat condition, a shaper of substantially pyramidal form inside of said holder and adapted to contact throughout its side area with said holder to hold same in unfolded position, a wire standard for supporting said holder, a bent portion in said standard adjacent the upper endv against which said shaper seats, and an extension above said bent portion adapted to project through the apex of said holder.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification.
ROBERT C. PALICKI.
