Another object is to provide a machine or this purpose in which the label will be uniformly and rapidly folded around the package, regardless of variations in soft-' ness and shape of the package, and in which the label will be firmly supported durin the wrapping process b means of a pac age support. Another ject is to provide such.
a machine as an attachment for cooperation with a packaging machine, so that the packages from the packaging machine will be wra ped as fast as they are fed from said pac aging machine. Another object is to provide such an attachment, in which the folding of partially folded packages fed from the packaging machine, is completed in the pouch making attachment. Another object is to provide such an attachment in which a label sheet or other sheetwill be circumferentially wrapped about the package so that a completed package will be produced having only one seam on the side, and in which the flaps are folded over the ends, thus making a package having smooth, neat appearing sides. With-these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain constructions and combinations. which will be hereinafter full described and then set fort in the appende claims.
. In the operation of the device selected .to illustrate the invention, a'partially wrapped tinfoil package with one end still open, is ;fed from the packaging machine into oneof -a plurality of trough-like sheet-metal ockets projecting sideways from an intermittently rotating turret, the feeding means being so arranged as to .automaticall tuckin the-sides of the open end of the pac age upon its delivery into the pocket. The label, fed to the turret by a conveyor from a label magazine,

of the open end of the tinfoil package is folded up. In making the first fold, the label is placed even with the now partially folded open end of the tinfoil package, overlapping the closed end of the same, the overlap to later form the closed end of the pouch. While being conveyed to the turret, paste is applied to a point of the label which has become the under side of its upper overhangflap, for subsequent sealing. The turret then advances to the next operating position, in which the sides of the overlapping'label end are tucked in, its lower end flap is folded up, and its upper end flap is folded down and sealed. In the discharge osition of the turret, which the sealed pac age reaches after it has been in contact with a heating plate during a number of steps of the turret for drying, the upper flap of the tinfoil wrapper is folded down, ready to be sealed-by attaching the Government revenue stamp, and :the folded package is pushed into the delivery stacker by a package ejector.

In carr ing the invention into effect, there is provi ed means for circumferentially wrappin a sheet of pouch material around and over anging one end of a package support to firmly support the pouch material during subsequent'wrapping, together with means for thereafter folding the overhanging part of the sheet over the end of the support.- In the best constructions contemplated,
.said wrapping mean-s includes a flexible enwrapping member and means for moving said member in and out of position to coact with saidsupport. The best constructions also include means for simultaneously moving a sheet of pouch material and a package to said support before the wrapping means comes into action. In the best constructions also, there are provided means for moving a partially wrapped package to said support, means for forming a pouch over said support and package, and means for completing the wrapping of the package. The above means may be widely varied in construction within the scope of the claims, the particular machine selected -t'o illustrate the invention be ingbut one of many possible embodiments of the same. The invention is, therefore,.,not tobe'restricted to the specific construction shown and described.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the sheets of pouch material or labels L, are placed in a magazine 20, held by a bracket 21, which is supported by brackets 22 and 23 attached to a table 24. The table 24 and its continuation 25 are mounted on pedestals 26 and 27, and
- are a part of the frame of themackaging machine to which the present device is attached. The labels in the magazine 20 rest on a bar 28 and on rollers 29 turning on a shaft 30, which also carries rollers 31 which are provided with suitable friction creating surfaces to pull the labels out of the magazine. The shaft is driven by a spiral gear 32 meshing with a spiral gear 33 mounted on a shaft 34.
A roller 35 mounted on a shaft 36 supported by bearings on the magazine 20, and'a' roller 37 mounted on a shaft 38 supported by parallel levers 39 swinging on studs 40 attached to the magazine 20, and adjustable by means of springs 41 and screws 42, feed 'the labels pulled out by the rollers 31 to the conveyor chains 43, on which they are guided by a pair of side walls 44 and 45. The shaft 36 is driven by a spur gear 46, which meshes with an intermediate spur gear 47 driven by a s ur gear 48 on the shaft 30. The shaft 38 is riven by a spur gear 49 meshing with the spur gear 46 on the shaft 36.
On the shaft 30 is also mounted the sprocket 50 driving a chain 51 running over sprocket 52 secured to a rotatable sleeve 53 rotatable in bracket 22, in which is slidably mounted the shaft 54. Shaft 54 is provided at one end with the knob 55 and carries one member 56 of a clutch coupling. a A ball pressed by aspring 57 in sleeve 53 halfway into a longitudinal groove of semicircular cross sectionin shaft 54 transmits the rotation of the sleeve to the shaft while permitting longitudinal movement of the shaft. Holes in the driving member 56 are engaged by pins 58' in the driven member 59 of the clutch mountedon shaft 60, which drives the aster mechanism. Thus by pulling knob 55, t e paster drive can be readily stopped.
The shaft 60 is supported in a bracket 61 attached to a paste pct 62, which is carried by a horizontal extension 23a of the bracket 23,
and mounted on this shaft is a spur gear 63 which, through an intermediate gear 64 on a stud 65 in the bracket 61, drives a spur gear 66 on shaft 67 journalled in brackets 61 andv 68. On shaft 67 are mounted the paster wheel 69 and the paster fingers 70. Mounted on a shaft 71, within the .pastepot 62, are paste drums 72 and 73, which transfer paste to the wheel 69 and the fingers 70, respectively. The
shaft 71 is driven by a spur gear 74 driven from the gear 63 on the shaft 60. The paste pot 62 is removably held in position by a gib spaced intervals to the links of-the chains, 115
the labels being guided on their way by top rails'86 and bottom rail 87, and by the side walls 44 and 45. The side walls are attached to cross bars 88, which also carry the top rails 86. These cross bars, by the hinges 89, 12.
are attached to a bar supported by the bracket 21, so that the side Walls and top rail *can be readily raisedfor inspection of the labels.
The labels, in passing over the paster wheel 12 69'and the paster fingers 7 0, receive a lengthwise stripe of paste along their side edges for side sealing, and a daub of paste near their end edges for end fold sealing.

bars 91 and 92, the former being attached to an extension of the bracket 21, and the lat ter to the bar 90. Chain supporting rails 93, resting on the bars 91 and 92, prevent the sagging of the label conveying chains 43.
From the conveyor chains, the label is taken to the turret 94 by a label transfer. This consists of a bar 95 mounted on a lever 96 and having side walls 97 serving as guides for the label. Longitudinal strips 98 are fastened to bar 95 to serve as supports for the label, and top plates 99 are attached to the sidewalls 97 to guard the side edges of the label. Two noses 100, having inclined surfaces over which the incoming label slides and abrupt shoulders preventing reverse movement of the sheets, hold the label in position .while the transfer swings over to the turret. The transfer'lever 96 is supported on studs 101 and 102 carried by parallel arms 103 and 104, respectively. The arm 103 is pivoted on stud 105 carried by bracket 7 106 attached to table 24, and the arm 104 is fastened on a shaft 107'carried in the bracket 106. The shaft 107 imparts a reciprocating motion to the label transfer, so that it moves from a position adjacent the end of the conveyor chain to a position adjacent the package on the turret, lever 108 fastened on said shaft being connected by means of a connecting rod 109, with a cam lever 110 having a cam roller 111 in engagement with a cam 112 mounted on the main drive shaft 113, driven in fixed relation to the drive of the packaging machine. The label supporting strips 98 pass during'reciprocation to either side of the packageT's-upporting the label directly over the same, with the leading edge of the label sheet approximately even with the trailing end of the package and with the trailing end of the label sheet overhanging the leading edge of the package. On withdrawal of strips 98, the label sheet is held against the package by means presently to be described.
The label L, transferred to the turret at its highest point, lies directly below the enwrapping member support 114, and above a package P previously fed into the turret by suitable means hereinafter described. In the particular machine illustrated, this package consists "of a tinfoil or other'inner wrapper applied to a group of cigarettes. The partially wrapped packages P, as formed in the packaging machine with the overhanging rear end of the wrapper still open, are fed directly from said packaging machine between the continuously running belts 115, which carry the packages to a point where they are ready to enter the package supports on the turret and into which the packages are pushed by the square ended prongs 116. These prongs are attached to pivots 117 of parallel levers 118, the latter swinging on studs 119 projecting from two sleeves 120 slidably mounted on shafts 121. The shafts 121 are supported by brackets 122 attached to the table 25, and by bars 123 aflixed to supporting brackets 124 and 125. The slides 120 are actuated through a connecting rod 126, which is connected to the sleeves by means of pins 127, by a lever 128 mounted on a shaft 129 and having a cam roller 130 in engagement with a cam 131 on the main drive shaft 113.
At the beginning of the forward stroke, the prongs 116, which are provided with rollers 132 guided in tracks 133 in the stationary cams 134 attached to a bracket 135, swing inward between the side guides 136, thereby tucking in the first and second sides 137 of the open rear end of the tinfoil wrapper 138, as shown in Fig. 13 while pushing the pack age P into the package support on the turret 94.
When a label L has been placed by the transfer on a package P in the turret, a press plate 139 (Figs. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6) fastened to a block 140 presses the label against the pack age. The block 140' is attached to rods 141, which are slidably mounted in bearings 142 and 143 on bracket. 135 and are joined together by a. top plate 144. A lever 145 pivoted on a shaft 146 in a bracket147 attached to the bracket 135 and engaging the lower side of plate 144 holds the label press plate 139 in its upper position, from which it is dislodged by another lever 148, also mounted on the shaft 146 and operated through a connecting rod 149 by a cam 150 on shaft 34. A roller 151 engaging with the outside face of the cam 150, is pivoted on a lever 152 swinging on a stud 153 held in a bracket 154 attached to the bracket 135. When the roller 151 is pushed outwardly by the cam face 150, the lever 152 will lower lever 148, thereby alowing the springs 155 placed between the adjustable collars 156 on rods 141 and the bearings 142 thereof, to push down the label press plate 139. With the press plate now holding the label tightly on into position above the former ready to be circumferentially wrapped around the support and the package therein.
The label L is then circumferentially wrapped around the trough shaped package support, containing the package P, by a flexible enwrapping member 158 clamped to angular holders 159 by strips 160. To move the enwrapping band into and out of enwrapping position, the band holders 159 are attached to levers 161 extending downwardly and swinging on studs 162 mounted on the arm of an inverted Y shaped bracket 114, these studs also carrying levers 163 having pivots 164 engaging with the collars 165, to which are fastened the springs 166 attached to the spring posts 167 on the bracket 114. The springs 166 tend to swing the holder arms 159 apart and the levers '163 upwardly. Screws 168 inserted into the bracket 114 in the path of projections 169 on the. levers 161,
limit the upward motion of these levers.
This bracket 114 is secured to a slide bar 170 and is vertically reciprocated thereby so as to push the holder arms 159 downwardly one on either side of the package support. As this occurs, the package support holds back the center of the enwrapping member causing it to pull the ends of the arms 159 upwardly with respect to the studs 162 and towards each other, carrying the ends of the enwrapping member about the lower side of the package support asshown in Fig. 6.
The slide bar 170, slides in a groove of the bracket 135 and is held therein by the strips 171. Slide bar 170 is operated by a link 172 connected to a lever 173 swinging on a stud 174 in abracket 175 fastened to the bracket 135. The lever 17 3 is actuated by a rod 176 from a cam lever 177 fulcrumed on a shaft 178 and having a roller 179 in engagement with a cam 180. This operation of the cam lever will cause reclprocation of the arms 159 carrying the enwrapping ban-d past the package support, with the result that, as shown in Fig. 6, this member will enwrap the sheet of pouch material about the support. I
The intermittently rotating turret 94 has secured thereto the trough shaped package supports 181 (Figs. 4 and 5) held by equidistantly spaced U blocks 182, which blocks are clamped to the turret frame by'plates 183 and in which the package supports are clamped at one end by cover plates 184. The package supports or chambers 181 are made of thin sheet metal and project sideways=from the holdlng'blocks 182. After a label has been foldedovera package and around the proectmg portion of the chamber 181 containng the same by the enwrapping member or ,pouch folding band 158, a bar 185 (Figs. 4, 6 and 9) sliding in a groove provided in the turret opposite each chamber and having a guide-plate 186, is forced upwards towards the freshly applied label. The sliding bars 185 have attached to them cross bars 187, which hold springs 188 carrying strips 189 WhlCh, in their-up position resiliently bear against the overlap of the folded label squeezing its overhanging side flap against the previously applied paste strip, thereby sealing the pouch body of the label.
The slide bars 185 are actuated by cam rollers 190 thereon which are guided in tracks 191 and 192 of a stationary cam 193 attached to the table 24. The cam tracks 191 and 192 are concentric, the inner track 191 extending over one quarter of the cam circle and the outer track 192 over the remaining three quarters. During the loading period, the roller 190 ofslide. bar 185 is in engagement with the inner track 191, thereby keeping the slide in its lowermost position, in which the pouch sealing strip 189 carried by it is clear of the turret chamber 181 by a suflicient distance to permit the pouch folding band holders 159 to travel around it. Rolling out of the end of track 191, the roller 190 is received by a block 194 having a track 195 registering with track 191. The block 194 is at-.
' cam roller 204. The rocking segment 197 moves the rack 196 through a length equal to the center distance between the cam tracks 191 and 192, thereby transferring the roller 190 received by block v194 from track 191 to the entrance of track 192, so that upon the next advance of the turret, the roller 190 3 .enters track 192, thus holding the bar in its outward position until the end of track 192 is reached.
When the bar 185 is raised, a thin plate 205 (Fig. 9), attached to it enters a slot in the bottom of chamber 181, thereby folding up the lower end flap or third side of the package. end 206' (Fig. 14) of the tinfoil wrapper of the package.
As the resilient strip 189 on bar 185 bears against the package, the bracket 114 moves upwardly, remaining in its neutral position until the turret has advanced one step when the next chamber with a newly transferred package and label is in juxtaposition with it. 2
In the construction shown, the turret 94 receives its intermittent motion from the indexing device 207 (Figs. 1 and 2) driven from a shaft 208 having on it the bevel gear mounted on shaft 113. The indexing device 207 intermittently aetuates the shaft 211 in properly timed relation to the other parts of the device and the packaging machine, spur 209 continuously driven by bevel gear 210 i gear 212 on shaft 211 meshing in turn with T spur gear 213 attached to the turret. A bevel gear 214 also mounted on shaft 208 meshes I with bevel gear 215 on shaft 34, both shafts.
34 and 208 being supported by a bracket 216 attached to the frame of the machine, shaft is accomplished by a 208 being also supported by a bearing bracket 217 attached to the table 25.
At the next operating station of the turret, which in the design shown in the drawings is two steps or degrees in advance of the receiving station at its highest point, the
end folding of the label is performed. The
swing on studs 223 inserted into the lu s of a stationary bracket 224 fastened to the label transfer bracket 106. The arms 221, attached to the tuckers 219 by studs 225, are pinned to shafts 226 and 227 supported by a bracket 224. On the shaft 226 is mounted a lever 228, which is connected by a rod 229 with the label transfer arm 103 from which it receives its motionf The latter is transmitted from the shaft 226 to the shaft 227 by gear segments 230 and 231 so that both tuckers operate in unison.
The second operation at this station is the folding u of the lower end flap of the pouch end 232 (Fig. 15), as shown in Fig. 16. This plate 233 (Fig. 11), which is fastened to a link 234 attached by studs 235 to parallel levers 236 and 237, the former fixedly mounted on a shaft 238 and the latter loosely swinging on a shaft 239, both of which are supported in a bracket r 240 attached to the table 25. A driving crank 241 mounted on the shaft 238 receives reciprocating motion through a rod 242, fastened to it by a stud 243 from a lever 244 (Fig. 3), which is pivoted on a stud 245 attached to an extension arm of a bracket 246 and has a cam roller 247 running in cam 248 on shaft 34.
' The third operation at the folding station is the folding down of the upper flap 249 of the pouch end (Fig. 16) thereby completing the folding of the pouch, as shown in Fig. 17. This operation is performednby a plate 250 (Fig. 12.), which is attached by a link 251 carried by levers 252 and 253 to which it is joined by the studs 254. The lever 252 is fulcrumed on stud 255 fastened in bracket 106. Lever 253 is mounted on a shaft-256 journalled in an extension arm of the bracket 106. The shaft 256 receives reciprocating motion from a lever 257 mounted thereon and connected by a stud 258 to a rod 259 attached to a lever 260 (Fig. 2) fulcrumed on a stud 261 in the bracket 246 and having a roller 262 running in the cam 248. The under side of flap 249 having received a daub of paste from I the paste fingers while being conveyed to the receiving station of the turret, the down movement of the folder plate 250 also seals the pouch end.
It is to be noted that in each of the above ends or flaps are folded over the end of the sheet metal support, thus obtaining uniformly-folded square corners regardless of the variations in firmness or shape of the package.
In order to dry the seal, a heating plate 263 equipped with an electric heater 264 is provided (Figs. 2 and 4) which extends along the package ends on the lower part of the turret. The folder plate 250, which remains in its downward position until the package, on the advance of the turret, has entered into contact with the said heating plate, is provided with a nose 265 to protect the label from being dislodged or torn by the entering edge of the heating plate. The heating plate 263 is fastened to two rods 266 (Figs. 1, 2 and 4) passing through holes drilled into ribs of table 24 and attached on the outside of the table to a cross bar 267 which carries an adjustable stop screw 268 engaging with a stop surface on the lever 269. The'lever 269 is fulcrumed on a stud 270 in bracket 271 and is actuated through a rod 272 by a cam lever 273 on the shaft 129, having a cam roller 274 running in the cam 131. package arrives at the ejecting sta ion which is three-quarters of a revolution from the loading station, in the horizontal line through the turret center. Before ejecting the package, the slide bar 185 associated with the respective turret chamber must first be moved away from the chamber by transferring its cam roller 190 from the outer track 192 back to the inner track 191 of the cam 193. This transfer is accomplished by means of a cam operated transfer block 277 (Fi ably mounted in a groove rovided in the body of cam 193, in which it is held by the guard plate 279. In a crosswise groove in the endof the first mentioned arm of lever 293 is slidably mounted, by means of guide rails 297, a ba r 298 to one end of which is attached an ejecting plate 299, while its other end through a rod 300 affixed to it by a ball joint 301, is connected through a ball joint 302 to a cam lever 303 fulcrumed on the shaft 129 having the roller 304- on an arm 305 in engagement with the cam 180 (Fig. 2). As the lever 293 swings inwards, as shown by the arrow 306 in Fig. 9, the ejector plate 299' enters into the package support 181 between the block 182 and the end of package P. In so doing, it pushes along and thereby closes the still open upper end flap 307 (Fig. 17) or the fourth side of the rear end of the tinfoil wrapper of the package,
thus completingthe wrapping of the pack-r age,.as shown in Fig. 18. When the lever 293 has arrived at the inner end of its stroke, with the ejector plate 299 covering the end ofthe package, the slide bar 298 moves outward as indicated by arrow 308 in Fig. 9, thereby causing plate 299 to eject the package from the chamber.
To guard the freshly dried pouch end from becoming loose during the ejecting movement, a rod 309 slidable in brackets 310 and31'1 attached to the table 24 and carrying at its end a flat disc 312 is lightly pressed against the package by the spring 313 bearing against the adjustable collar 314, which limits the inward or return movement of the rod by engaging with bracket 310, when the disc 312 is at the-proper distance from the turret to permit the incoming package to pass without touching it.
The ejected package P is pushed by the e ector plate 299 against a stationary partition 315 attached by a bracket 316 to 'the table 24. This partition is in line with a. front side wall 317 of a package delivery channel having a rear side wall 318 and a bottom plate 319 (Figs. 2, 3, 8 and 9) resting on a block 320 and ona wooden. receiving table 321. A plunger 322 (Fig. 8) attached to parallel levers 323 and 324 and located in the finished packages along the partition 315 into the delivery channel, lever 323 having an arm 325 carrying a cam roller 326 engaging with a cam 327 on the shaft 34. The lever 323 is pivoted on the shaft 328 and lever 324 is pivoted on stud 329, both supported in the bracket 246.
The sidewall 317 of the delivery channel (Fig.2), is attached to hinges 330 and 331, the upright portion of the latter having at-' tached to it a lever 332 carrying a roller 333 (Figs; 2 and The roller 333'rests on the inclined surface of a wedge shaped bar 334 slidably mounted in guides 335 on the table 24 and connected by a rod 336 with the cam lever 303. Thus every time the oscillating bar 298, which is also actuated by cam lever 303, moves forward to eject a package, the bar 334 is pushed forward under the roller 333, thereby raising the lever 332 by the amount of the incline of the bar 334, which is made just sufiicient to swing the side wall 317 out of contact with the packages in the channel at every forward stroke of the stacking plunger 322. At its backward stroke, the bar 334 permits lowering of the roller 333, allowing the spring 337 attached to lever 332 and anchored to table 24 to pull the wall 317 back against the packages. Sidewall 317 thus bearing against the packages only during the time when the latter are at rest, no damage to the folded ends can result from their passage through the channel.
Since the package chambers 181 are open at the outside of the turret, any package not held in place by the label surrounding the package and chamber will fall out after passing the center line of the turret, and thus not only will itself be damaged or destroyed, but may do injury to the machine. To give warning when such a label-less package leaves the pouch folding station of the turret so that it may be removed before it has advanced too far, an insulated contact 338 (Fig. 6) is attached by an angle 339 to the frame of the machine in such position as to bear against the packages on emerging'from the pouch folding station. of the turret. By connecting this contact with an electric bell 340 and a battery 341, an alarm will then be given in case a package has for some reason failed to receive a label, since the contact 338 Will then bear on the bare tinfoil and will close the bell circuit through the tinfoil wrapper and the frame of the machine to which the other terminal of the battery is connected.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with a package support, of means for moving a package to said support, means for thereafter circumferentially wrapping a sheet of pouch material rear of the ejected package P when resting around and overhanging one end of said sup- 65 a t th t tition 315 pu h th port and a package therein, and means for thereafter folding the overhanging part of.
the sheet over the end of the support, said support including a sheet metal trough in which a package lies and around which the sheet is wrapped.
3. The combination with a package support, of means for circumferentially wrapping a sheet of pouch material around and overhanging one end of said supportand a package therein, and means for thereafter folding the overhanging part of the sheet over the end of the support, said wrappin means including a flexible enwrappingmem er, and
means for moving said member in and out of position to coact with said support.
4. The combination with a package support, of means for moving a package to said support, means for thereafter circumferentially wrapping a sheetof pouch material around and overhanging one end of said support and a package therein,and means for thereafter folding the overhanging part of the sheet over the end of the support, said folding means including a plurality of folding devices sequentially coacting with said support.
5. The combination with a package sup- 1 port, of means for circumferentially wrapping a sheet of pouch material around and overhanging one end of said support,- means for thereafter folding the overhanging part of the sheet over the end of the support, and
means for moving a package to said support before said wrapping means comes into action.
6. The combination with a package support, of means for circumferentially wrapping .a sheet of pouch material around and overhanging one end of said support, means for thereafter folding the overhanging part of the sheet over the'end of the support, and
means for simultaneously moving a sheet and a package to said support before said wrapping means comes into action. 7. The combination with a package support, of means for circumferentially wrapping a sheet of pouch material around and overhanging one end of said support, means for thereafter folding the overhanging part of the sheet over the end of the support, and means for moving a sheet and a package in opposite directions to said support before said wrapping means comes into action. A
8. The combination with a plurality of traveling package supports, of means for SP0- cessively wrapping sheets of pouch material circumferentially around and overhanging the ends of said supports and packages therein, and means for thereafter successively folding the overhanging parts of the sheets over the ends of the supports and said packages.
9. The. combination with a plurality of traveling package supports, of means for successively wrapping sheets of pouch material circumferentially around and overhanging the ends of said supports and packages therein, and means for thereafter successively folding the overhanging parts of the sheets over the ends'of the supports and said packages, the wrapping operations and the folding operations occurring at different points in the travel of the supports.
10. The combination with a plurality of traveling package supports, of means for successively wrapping sheets of pouch material circumferentially around and overhanging the ends of said supports and packages therein, means for thereafter successively folding the overhanging parts of the sheets over the ends of the supports and said packages, and
an intermittently rotating turret carrying said supports.
11. The combination with a package support, of means for moving a partially wrapped package to said support, 'means for thereafter forming a pouch over said support and package, and means for completing the wrapping of the package.
12. The combination with a package support, of means for moving a partially wrapped package to said support, means for thereafter forming a pouch over said support and package, and means for completing the wrapping of the package, said completing means including folding devices coacting with said moving means and other folding devices thereafter coacting with said support.
"13. The combination with a package support, of means for moving a partially wrapped package to said support, means for thereafter forming a pouch over said support and package, and means for completing the wrapping of the package, said completing'means including means for first folding in the first and second sides of the unfolded end of the package wrapper, and means for subsequently and successively folding in the third and fourth sides of said end.
14. Means for assembling a sheet of pouch material with a package, comprising a package support, means for moving a package into said support, and means for thereafter moving a sheet into position adjacent said support to be circumferentially wrapped around said support and folded over its end.
15. Means for assembling sheets of pouch material with packages, comprising a plurality of traveling package supports, means for successively moving packages into said supports, and means for successively moving sheets into position adjacent said supports to be circumferentially wrapped around said supports and folded over their ends.
16. Means for assembling sheets of pouch material with packages, comprising an in termittently rotating turret, a plurality of trough-like package supports carried by said turret, means for successively moving packages into said supports, and means for successively moving sheets into position adjacent said supports to be circumferentially wrapped around said supports and folded over their ends.
17. Pouch forming means including a trough shaped package support, a flexlble member for wrapping a sheet of pouchmateri-al circumferentially around said support and a package therein, and nieans for moving said member in and out of position to enwrap the support and package.
18. Pouch forming means including a trough shaped package support, means for wrapping a sheet of pouch material circumferentially around and overhanging one endof said support and a package therein, and
the. ends of the supports and means for folding the overhanging part of material around said support and a package therein at one position of said support, and means for folding the end of the sheet over the end of said support and a package therein at another position of the support.
21. In a pouch making attachment for packaging machines, the combination with a turret, of a plurality of package supports on said turret, means for intermittently rotatingssiid turret,"1neans for forwarding a pack-' :age having a wrapper open at one end of the package into position to be delivered to the turret, means for tucking the side edges of the open end of the wrapper and inserting the package into a package support on the turret, means for feeding label'sheets to a package support on the turret, means, for applying paste to a side and end edge of a label sheet as it is fed, means for wrapping the sheet around the package support having the. package therein with one of theside edges of the sheet overhangin the other side edge, means for pressing sai side edges together and folding up the lower end flap of the open end of the wrapper on the packthe wrapper while age in the support, means for tucking in the sides of the pasted end of the label sheet,
means for folding in the lower and upper flaps of said end of the label sheet to com-Z plete the pouch for the packagehmeans for sealing, said folded and pastedend, and

In a pouch making attachment for packaging machines, the combination with a turret, of a plurality'of package supports on said turret, means for intermittently rotating said turret, means for forwarding a V package havinga'wrapperfopen at one end of the package into position to be delivered to the turret, means for tucking the, side edges of the open end-of the wrapper and inserting the package into a packagevsupport on the turret, means for feeding labelsheets to a package support on the turret,
means for-applying paste to a side and end edge of a label sheet as it is fed, means for wrapping the sheet around the package sup port having the package therein with; one of the side edges of the sheet overhanging the other side edge, means for pressing said side edges together and folding up the lower end flap of the open end of the wrapper on the package in the support, means for tucking in the sides of the pasted end of the label sheet, means for folding in the lower i and upper flaps of said end of the label sheet to complete the pouch for the package, means for sealing said folded and pasted end, and means for closing the upper end flap of the wrapper and ejecting the package from the turret, said label sheet feeding means including a magazine having a bar supporting one edge of the labels, a driven roller engaging the opposite edge of the labels and pulling them out of the magazine, spaced conveyor chains, guide rollers for feeding the labels onto said chains, and a swinging label transfer carrying the labels from said chains to a position over the package support.
24. In a pouch making attachment for packaging machines, the combination with a turret, of a plurality of package supports on said turret, means for intermittently rotating said turret, means for forwarding a package having a wrapper open at one end 2 of the package into position to be delivered to the turret, means for tucking the side edges of the open end of the wrapper and inserting the package into a package support on the turret, means for feeding label sheets to a package support on the turret, means for applying paste to a side and end edge of a label sheet as it is fed, means for wrapping the sheet around the package support having the package therein with one of the side edges of the sheet overhangin the other side edge, means for pressing sai side edges together and folding up the lower end flap of the open end of the wrapper on the package in the support, means for tucking in the sides of the pasted end of the label sheet, means for folding in the lower and upper flaps of said end of the label sheet to complete the pouch for the package, means for sealing said folded and pasted end, and means for closing the upper end flap of the wrapper and ejecting the package from the turret, said paste applying means including a paste pot, a. paste wheel and paster fingers for'applying aste to a side and end edge respectively 0 the forwarded label sheets, and paste drums for transferring paste from the pot to said paste wheel and fingers.
25. In a pouch making attachment for packagin machines, the combination with a turret, o a plurality-of package supports on said turret, means for intermittently rotating said turret, means for forwarding a package having a wrapper open at one end of the package into position to be delivered to the turret, means for tucking the side edges of the open end of the wrapper and inserting the package into a package support on the turret, means for feeding label sheets to a package support on the turret, means for applying paste to a side and end edge of a label sheet as it is fed, means for wrapping the sheet around the package support having the package therein with one of the side edges of the sheet overhanging the other side edge, means for pressing said side edges together and folding up the lower end flap of the open end of the wrapper on the package in the support, means for tucking in the sides of the pasted end of the label sheet, means for folding in the lower and upper flaps of said end of the label sheet to complete the pouch for the package, means for sealing said folded and pasted end, and means for closing the upper end flap of the wrapper and ejecting the package from the turret, said means for wrapping the label sheet around the supedges of the open end of the wrapper and inserting the package into a package support on the turret, means for feeding label sheets to a package support on the turret,
means for applying paste to a side and end edge of a label sheet as it is fed, means for wrapping the sheet around the package support having the package therein with one of the side edges of the sheet overhanging the other side edge, means for pressing said side edges together and folding up the lower end flap of the open end of the wrapper on the package in the support, means for tucking in the sides of the pasted end of the label sheet, means for folding in the lower and upper flaps of said end of the label sheet to complete the pouch for the package, means for sealing said folded and pasted end, and means for closing the upper end fla of the wrapper and ejecting the package rom the turret, said supports being trough shaped and having a transverse slot in their bottom, and said means for pressing the side edges of the label sheet together and folding up the lower end flap of the wrapper including a sliding bar, sealing strips resiliently mounted on said bar for squeezing the s1de edges together, a plate attached to said bar and adapted to enter said slot to fold up the lower end flap of the wrapper and mechanism for moving said sliding. bar radially of the turret to press the strips against said edges.
27. In a pouch making attachment for packaging machines, the combination with a turret, of a plurality of package supports on I said turret, means for intermittently rotating said turret, means for forwarding a package having a wrapper open at one end of the package into position to be delivered to the turret, means for tucking the side edges of the open endof the wrapper and inserting the package intoa package support on the turret, means for feeding label sheets to a package support on the turret, means for applying paste to a side and end edge of a label sheet as it is fed, means for wrapping the sheet around the package support having the package therein with one of the side edges of the sheet overhanging the other side edge,

In a pouch making attachment for packaging machines, the combination with a turret, of a plurality of package-supports on said turret, means for intermittently rotating said turret, means for forwarding a package having a wrapper open at one end of the package into position to be delivered to the turret, means for tucking the sideedges of the 0 en end of the wrapper and inserting the package into a package support on the turret, means for feeding label sheets to a package support on the turret, means for applying paste to a side and end edge of a label sheet as it is fed, means for wrapping the sheet around the package support having the package therein with one of the side edges of the sheet overhanging the other side edge, means for pressing said side edges together and folding up the lower end flap of the open end of the wrapper on the package in the support, means for tucking in the sides of the pasted end of the label sheet, means for folding in the lower and upper flaps of said end of the label sheet to complete the pouch for the package, means'for sealing saidfolded and pasted end, and means for closing the upper end flap of the wrapper and ejecting the package from the turret, said ejecting means including an ejecting plate, and cam means for moving said plate into said package support to fold down the upper end flap of the wrapper and then move it lon git-udinall of the support to eject the package there rom.
31. Means for wrapping a label sheet around a package, comprlsmg a press late for pressing the label sheet on the pac age, a flexible enwrapping member, a recipro cating bracket, downwardly extending levers pivoted on said bracket, angular holders connected to said levers and said enwrapping member, springs connected to said levers for urging said holders apart, and means for reciprocating said bracket to bring said enwra-pping member into engagement with the label, whereby the center of said enwrapping member is held back by thev package and said holders are swung inwardly against the tension of said springs carrying the ends of the enwrapping member and the label about the lower side of the package.
32. The combination with a package support having a transverse slot in its bottom and adapted to receive a package having a Wrapper open at one end of the package, of means for folding up the lower end flap of the open end of the wrapper, said means including a sliding bar, a plate attached to said bar and adapted to enter said slot: to foldup the lower end flap of the wrapper, and mechanism for moving said bar to move saidplate in and out of operative position. q; 33. Means for tucking in the sidesof "one of a label sheet wrapped around a ackage, comprising oppositely disposed tuc ers, os-" cillating shafts, stationary brackets, links pivoted on said tuckers at one end and pivoted on said brackets at the other end, arms connecting said shafts and tuckers inter meshin gear segments on said shafts, and means or oscillating one of sad shafts.
34.
