VIMP'RovEMEN-r IN DRAWER-PULLs.
Speciication forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,762, dated March 27, 1877; application led March 2, 1877. v
` To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LOUIS P. WHITEMAN, of the city, county, and State of New York, andBENJAMIN M. GERARDIN, of Jersey Gity, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a newand useful Improvement in Drawer-Pulls, of which the following is ay description u This invention relates to a drawer -pull wherein provision is a'orded for the insertion of a plate.or piece Aof glass or other material upon which is marked a name Afor-'indicat'n1g the contents of a drawer, to which the drawerpull is applied.
The invention consists in the combination,
with a stock-piece adapted to be secured to a drawer by screws or otherwise, to cover and protect the back of the name-plate and to sustain the pull exerted to move the drawer, of
\ a face-piece adapted to interlock with and conceal saidstockpiece, and secure in place the name-plate, whereby a very superior ari ticle is produced.
The invention also consists -in features of minor importance,'which will be hereinafter explained. y j
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front view of a drawer-pull made according to our invention. Fig. 2 is a central transverse section of the same; and Fig. '3 is a central longitudinal section thereof.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all'the figures.
The stockpiece is shown as consisting of two vend pieces, A, connected by a bridge, B.
g These end piecesV are preferably hollow, and receive the screws `or; other means, serving to .Y secure 'thedrawer-pullfin place-for instance,
`. upon the `froutofa drawer. The vbridge B is of such construction4 .that :when the! stockpiece is securedin place, opportunity isafforded for inserting'- theghand` or fingers vbehind it, in ordertopull out the drawer. The outer or most' distantsides of the endpieces A preferably converge'toward the drawer, as shown in Fig. 3, so that the stock-piece forms a dovetail tenon,`upon` which the'facepiece G, presently to `be described, may be fitted and secured. The facel of the bridge may or for-m externally. It is provided with an opening, a, through which the name on the name-plate may be seen, and at the edges of this opening overlaps the name-plate and holds it in place upon the bridge B of the stock-piece. At the bottom edge ofthe bridge B is a iiange, b, to sustain the name-plate at the bottom edge, and at the top the latter is heldin place by the face-piece. It is, therefore, held in place securely in all directions.
It' desirable, the face-piece may be retained in place vertically by a locking-pin; or i't and the stock -piece may be so adapted to each other that the former may be wedged firmly upon the latter.
It will be seen that by this invention great facility is aorded for inserting a name-plate, for removing the same and replacing it by another 5 that the face-piece serves to conceal the stock-piece and the means ,which secure injury at the back that it may be made of the most fragile material; and that the face-piece, inasmuch as it sustains but little, if any, strain in the opening and shutting of the drawer, may, without liability of sustaining injury, be made of' wood, porcelain, or, indeed, any other desirable material.
What we clairn as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with a stock piece adapted to be secured to a drawer or other article by screws or otherwise, and constitutin g aback protector to a name-piece, of a facepiece adapted to interlock with and overlap said stock-piece, conceal the means which se cures it in place, and hold the name-piece in place, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a stock-pice having inwardly-converging outer ends, and constituting a dovetail-tenon, of a face-piece pro- 4. A drawer-pull face-piece adapted to invided with a dovetail groove or cavity adaptterlock with a. stock-piece, and cov'er the same, ed to interlock with said stock-piece, substansubstantially as set forth. tially as set forth.
3. A drawer-pull stock-piece, consisting of LOUIS P. WHITEMAN. end pieces and a connecting-bridge, forming BENJ. M. GERA'RBIN. a. pull-piece and protector to a name-piece, and so formed that a face-piece may interlock Witnesses: therewith and cover it, substantially as set SAMUEL W. WEISS, forth. WM. H. BLAIN.
