This invention relates to equipment for cleansing, washing and rinsing operations incidental to the washing of utensils.
This invention has utility when embodied in a re-circulatory washer, scrubber, rinser, and drier as adapted for the handling of dishes and cooking utensils.

Legs 1 are shown as supporting base 2 as a Mounted on this base 2 is a housing having back 4, sides 5, and front opening 6. This front opening may be closed by doors 7, 8, hinged to the sides 5, and doors 9, 10, to fold thereover, are hinged respectively to top 11 and adjacent the bottom 2. This shaft 23 extends into the housing toward the opening 6, and is provided with a detachable tubular portion 27 go constituting a multi-stream projecting nozzle having therein vanes 27. This tubular portion 27, which may be unthreaded in' removal for cleaning, has openings 28 as outlets for the ets orstreams of liquid. By means of crank 38, the article receiving I portion 37 may be moved in the housing to shift articles of cutlery thereon against the brush. Material which is removed, as well as washing or rinsing liquid, may pass through the rack portion 36 and thus the more solid matter may be accumulated in drip pan 39 instead ofpassing down to the pan 2 for discharge by way of the drain 3. This pan 39 may have the water accumulation drained therefrom by removing plug 40. The rack 30 may be removed from the housing after the "articles have drained into the pan 39.
The sediment may, thereafter, be removed from this pan 39. The handle or crank 38 has clearance 41 between the doors 7, 8, so that the doors me? be closed with the handle protruding and ree to be operated.
Below the door 10 there is provided rockable handle 42 for rod 43 mounted in brackets 44, 45, carried adjacent the bottom 2 of the housing and extending to the rear thereof. This rod 43 adjacent the back 4 of the housing carries crank 46 from which upwardly extends link 47 to arm 48 mounted on fixed bearing 49. This arm 48 serves as a lever having at its free end beyond the link 47 pin 50 coacting with grooved collar 51 in the chamber 26 from the back. This collar 51 is fast on downwardly extending shaft 52. This shaft 52 adjacent its lower extremity carries fixed collar 53 and thercbeyond has a centrifugal impeller 54- curved as to its face so that normally there is a'pull action downward on this shaft 52 for drawingfriction wheel 55 adjacent the collar 51 into diiVQ ing engagement with friction wheel56fast with the pulley 21. Accordingly, with the handle 42 rocked downward the collar'51 is so shifted that the friction wheel 55 is in driving engagement with the friction wheel 56. With the motor 17 operating the scrubber, the impeller 54 is effective for liquid circulation operating upon submergence in the liquid. Between the collar 53 and the impeller 54, the shaft 52 carries spider 57 mounting bell 58 about the impeller 54. This bell 58 has bottom opening 59.
Upwardly extending from this bell 58 is duct section 60 telescoping within duct section 61, each about the shaft 52. This duct section 61 is within the housing 4, 5, 6, rigid therewith, and provided with supplemental duct section 62 as a branch from the upper portion terminating in an outlet about the shaft 23 disposed to discharge into the nozzle 27. For starting washing operations,
the handle 42 is operated to effect descent of this impeller 54 and bell 58 from retracted position in bell 63 in the housing. In this shifting, the impeller 54 descends into screened well 64 in reservoir compartment 65. As herein shown this compartment 65 is semi-cylindrical in form and has companion rinsing compartment 66. These compartments 65, 66, are assembled to form a cylindrical unit by flange 67 and pins 68. As so assembled for relative rotation as to rectangular carrier or support 69 they may be angularly shifted from the front of the housing. This shifting is done only when handle 42 is raised to have the bell 58 in the bell housing 63.
The sliding of the reservoir structure 65, 66, with its support 69 into assembly position with the washer housing is along guides 70 which carry rear stop 71 as well as supplemental base support 2.
When the structure is mounted on the legs 1 as supports, these reservoirs 65,66, may have the liquid, as wash water and rinse water, maintained at the desired temperature by burner 73 controlled by Valve 74. When the structure is mounted directly on a hot plate or stove the control of such stove may determine the degree of heating of the rinsing liquid, as well as the washing liquid.
By turning on switch 75, the motor 17 may be started. If the operation be that of washing, the position of the compartment reser- V011 65, 66, in the angularly shifted position determined by handle 76 before the descent of the bell 58, should be with the bell 58 to enter the well 64. The impeller pump brings about water circulation and sprays such upon the articles in the rack 30 exposed to the operation of the nozzle 27. \Vhen the desired washing action, or scrubbing has been completed, the handle 42 may be operated to lift the impeller 54. The closed circuit of the liquidis thus discontinued. However, it is well to allow a little time after cutting out this washing circuit for the drainage of the washing liquid back'through the opening 3 into the vessel compartment 65 before angularly shifting the-reservoir compartment to bring the rinsing reservoir section 66 below the bell 63. When this changed position has occurred, the handle 42 may be thrown downward into positionlocking the frame against removal as well as the handle 76 against shifting angularly. In this position the circulation of the rinsing water starts forthwith and may be continued for the desired rinsing interval, when the motor may be shut off at switch 75. This automatically discontinues the circulation of the rinsing liquid as well as the operation of the rotary nozzle 27. Inasmuch as the water or liquids have been maintained at high temperature during this operation there is no necessity for drying the articles or ware. Such may be remvoed from the housing by taking the rack 30 therefrom and the articles are accordingly self drying due to the high temperature which has been used.
By mounting on threaded stem '77 on the shaft 23 buffer Wheel 78 or other rotative equipment there may be polishing or even redressing of the articles of kitchen equipment.
The handle 76 for the reservoir having the compartments 65, 66, in its angular shifting when the pump is lifted therefrom, may snap into seats 7 9, 80, or 81 (Fig. 7), thereby disposing partition 82 between compartments 65, 66, in position to have the drain 3 and the bell 58 for the pump on the same or common side of the partition 82 shown in Fig. 8 as in the wash chamber or reservoir 65. \Vith the handle 76 shifted clockwise to position 83, the bell 58 may be in position for the impeller 54 to lift rinse water from the reservoir portion 66 and discharge such rinse water by drain outlet 3, into the wash water reservoir 65. With the handle 76 shifted still further clockwise to seat 81, the partition 82 is in position 84 so that there is recirculation of the rinse water. For convenience in shifting the housing 1 to various positions, handles 85 are provided. For convenience in shifting the rack 30. it is provided with pendently of said repository for rendering the delivery means inoperative.

A washer comprising a housing adapted to receive articles to be washed, a reservoir centrally below the housing having a plurality of compartments therein adapted to contain liquid and an. opening for each compartment, liquid delivery means including a pump for withdrawing liquid from a compartment in the reservoir, duct means movable downwardly into and upwardly out of the reservoir through one of said openings, and a nozzle to which said duct means extends for projecting liquid upon articles in the housing, and a mounting connection between said reservoir and housing providing a bearing support for the reservoir axially concentrio with the housing, whereby relative angular shifting may be had between the housingand reservoir in locating the reservoir rela tively to the housing for selective withdrawal of liquid from a compartment of the reservoir by the pump.
3.- A washer comprising a housing adapted to receive articles to be washed, a reservoir centrally below the housing having a plurality of compartments therein adapted to contain liquid and an opening for each compartment, liquid delivery means including a liquid pump, said means embodying a hollow member shiftable downwardly into and upwardly out of said reservoir through one of said openings for rendering the pump effective for withdrawing liquid from the reservoir and projecting it upon articles in the housing, said reservoir being-movably mounted enabling angular shifting thereof when the shiftable member is away from liquid withdrawing position, and manually operable means for effecting said angular shifting of said reservoir to be in position to receive the shiftable member in a selected one of the compartments 7 for withdrawal of liquid from said compartment.

A washer comprising a housing adapted to receive articles to be washed, a reservoir below the housing having a plurality of compartments adapted to contain liquid, a duct section for the housing, assembly means providing a bearing for reservoir shifting in a plane intersecting the axis of the duct section, a mounting for the duct section relatively to the compartments providing a bearing enabling axial shifting of the section into and out of a selected compartment of the reservoir, means including a pump for Withdrawing liquid from the reservoir through said duct section and projecting it upon the articles in the housing, and reciprocating means movable toward and from the reservoir and parallel to said duct section controllin the duct section movement into and out 0? any selected compartment of said reservoir.

A washer comprising a housing adapted to receive articles to be washed, a vertically shiftable duct section therefor, a reservoir below the housing having a plurality of compartments therein and movable in a substantially horizontal plane relatively to the duct sectionwhereby the duct section may enter one compartment at one position of said reservoir and a different compartment at another position of said reservoir, said compartments being adapted to contain liquid, and
means including a liquid pump forwithdrawing liquid from the reservoir through said duct section and projecting it upon the articles in the housing.

A washer comprising a housing adapted to receive articles to be washed, relatively telescoping duct sections in the housing, one section being shiftable relatively to said housing, a reservoir below the housing having a plurality of compartments therein adapted to contain liquid, said reservoir being relatively movable as to the housing when said,
one section is retracted for enabling projection of said'section into position into a different compartment of said reservoir, and
means including a liquid pump for with- 1 drawing liquid from the reservoir through said duct section and projecting it upon the articles in the housing.

duct, a. transmission connection between the pump and driving means rendering said pump effective for delivering liquid to said nozzle through said duct, and manually sh1ft able means operable to disconnect the pump while leaving the shaft connected to said driving means for rotation independently of operation of said pump.

In a washing machine, a housing adapted to receive articles to be washed, a rotary nozzle therein having a brush, a shaft on which the nozzle is mounted, driving means for rotating the shaft, a duct leading to said nozzle, a pump connected to said duct enabling the pump to deliver liquid to said nozzle, a transmission connection between the pump and driving means rendering said pump effective for delivering liquid to said nozzle through said duct, and manually shifta-ble means for disconnecting said pump from said driving means to leave the nozzle and shaft connected to said driving means for rotation independently of operation of said 10. A washing apparatus comprising a housing provided with an opening for inserting and removing articles to be cleaned, a closure for the opening, a rotary scrubber in said housing .directed toward said opening and having liquid discharge nozzle means therein, driving means, a transmission connection between the driving means and the scrubber, and stationary rack means in said housing parallel to and at the sides of and below said scrubber and extending away from the opening for disposing a plurality of articles along a side of the scrubber in position to be scrubbed and to receive liquid discharged from said nozzle means.

A washer including a housing, an article repository in said housing, a reservoir having a plurality of compartments therein adapted to contain liquid, said reservoir being disposed below said repository and relativel rotatable as to the housing on an upwar 1y extending axis, and liquid delivery means including a reciprocably mounted pump device shiftable into and out of operative position in a compartment in the reservoir and effective when in operative position to preclude shifting of the reservoir clear of said pump device, said delivery means operating to withdraw liquid from said compartment and project it upon articles in said repository. v

A washer including a housing providing an article repository and a seat below said repository, a reservoir mounted in said seat and having a plurality of compartments therein adapted to contain liquid, said reservoir being shiftable in said seat, and circulating means including a pump vertically movable relatively to the housing for selectively cooperating with different compartments of the reservoir, said circulating means operatingto withdraw liquid from said compartment and project it upon articles in said reposito said housing having an outlet positioned iiy the shifting of said reservoir in its seat relatively to the housing for discharging into a selected compartment.

A washer including a housing providing an article repository and a seat below said repository, a reservoir, a detachable connection between said seat and reservoir, said connection enabling mounting and disconnection of the reservoir with respect to said seat, and circulating means having connection with the housing and including a pump movable relatively to the housing into the reservoir to have its intake submerged in the lower portion of said reservoir and preclude disconnection shifting of the reservoir, said circulating means operating for withdrawing liquid from said reservoir and projecting it upon articles in said repository.

A washer including a housing providing an article repository and a seat below said repository, a reservoir provided with a movable support removably mounted in said seat, said reservoir being angularly movable with respect to said support and having a plurality of compartments, and circulating means i] eluding a pump movable into and out of a selected compartment of the reservoir, said circulating means operating for-withdrawing liquid from said compartment and projecting it upon articles in said repository, said housing having a drain outlet over the reservoir compartment into which the pump is shiftable.

A washing apparatus including a reservoir, a housing adapted to receive articles to be washed, a liquid rotary projector in said housing, a shaft on which said projector is mounted, a pulley fixed on said shaft, means for rotating 'said pulley, a duct in the housing extending to the projector, an axial thrust developing impeller pump in said reservoir and connected with said duct for delivering liquid to and through said duct to the projector, and a friction transmission connection to the pump having an element thereof shiftable downwardly into engaging position with said pulley, said pump being effective in its thrust, assisted by gravity of said shiftablc element, for holding the connection for transmission action.

A' washing apparatus including a housing adapted to receive articles to be washed and a reservoir therebelow, a nozzle therein, a shaft on which said nozzle is mounted, driving means for rotating the shaft, an upwardly extending duct in the housing communicating with said nozzle for supplying liquid thereto, an impeller pump in said reservoir at the lower end of said duct for delivering liquid to and upwardly through said duct, and a friction transmission connection to the pump from said driving means having friction elements engageable with one another, one of said elements being movable downwardly into engaging position with the other, said one of said elements having means fixed therewith and projecting downwardly to the pump through the upwardly extending duct, said pump in operation having a column of liquid in said duct thereby loading the connection for transmission action.
18. A washing apparatus including a housing adapted to receive articles to be washed, a liquid rotary projector in said housing, a shaft on which said projector is mounted,
- driving means for rotating the shaft, said housing having aguide therebeneath, a reservoir below said housing and shiftable laterally along said guide away from said housing to permit access to the reservoir, an upwardly extending duct leading to said projector, circulating means embodying pump having a discharge therefrom leadin to said duct, said means extending into sai reservoir from above for withdrawing liquid from the reservoir and projecting it upon the articles in the housing and being removable from said reservoir to permit lateral shifting of the reservoir, and a transmission connection between the pump and driving means and extending from above the reser- V011.
