IMPROVEMENT IN GASOLINE-BURNERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. l88,527, datedMarch 20, 1877 application filed December 9, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, FREDERICK MARQUART, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Im' provement in Gasoline-Burners, which in provement is fully set forth in the following specification and drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section.
The object of my invention is to furnish a burner for heating and cooking purposes, in which the valve is so constructed and arranged as to prevent leakage and insure an even and ready supply of gasoline to the gas-generating chamber.
In the drawing, A is a fount or reservoir for holding a supply of gasoline, consisting ofa cylinder or vessel, through which a vertical pipe, B, passes, having a row of small holes near the bottom of the vessel for theadmission of fluid into the pipe. The pipe B below the vessel A is provided with a coupler, G, in which is made a conical valve-seat, o, for the point of the rod D, said rod passing down through the pipe B, being fitted with a screwthread, and playing in a cap at the top end of the pipe, the rod having a hand-Wheel for turning it with. The pipe B turns at a right angle into a horizontal line, on the end of which is placed the burner.
E is the gas-generator, consisting of a semispherical chamber, having a connection, F, at oneside, uniting it with the pipeB. Opposite to the connection F is downward-projecting pipe-arm Gr, turned at a right angle, and terminating under the connection F. In the horizontal part of pipe G is made a valve-seat, g, in which the point of a thumb-screw rod, H,
fits, forming a valve. In the pipe G is made the opening for the gas-jet t, which is directly' underneath the center of the. chamber E, there being a central veitical tube, J, through chamber, connecting with a mixing-chamber, K, above said chamber E, a semi-spherical cap, K, set on the top of said generator E, forming the mixing-chamber, and is pierced with a series of holes, 70, for burning the gas. A cup, L, is secured underneath the jet 6, for the purpose of catching and burning a portion of gasoline, for heating the generator E when starting the burner.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the screw portions of both the rods D and H are so arranged as to be above and beyond the valves, so that the gasoline does not communicate with these joints, but is completely shut ofi from them. Therefore a troublesome source of leakage in gasoline-burners is entirely overcome. The thumb-rod H is in a more convenient position for operation, also.
Having described my invention, I claim I l. The combination, with the pipe B, of the fount A, the coupler 0, having. the valve 0, and the rod D, as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The generator E, having the connection F, and pipe G, valve g, the rod H, jet 2', tube J, cap K, and the cup L, all combined, constructed, and arranged to operate as shown and described.
