My invention relates to Crushers, having particular relationr to rotary Crushers applicable vto furnace constructions.
One object of my invention is toprovide a self-locking key comprising a bodyr portion and a head r portion which is adapted to be removed therefrom, the head portiony being provided with a boss.
Another object of my invention is to provide a rotary Crusher which is characterized i by the fact that the teeth thereof'may'be readily removed and replacedv with a minimum expenditure offtimeA and effort.y
A further object of my invention is to provide 'a rotary Crusher comprising removable teeth and spring keys for locking the teeth in position, the keys having a head portion which is adapted to be' broken off' when it is desired t'o remove the keys and release the to provide a member having an aperture terminating in an enlarged base portion forining a shoulder, a plug element adapted to be loosely positioned in said aperture and provided with a locking shoulder for engagement with the first-inentioned shoulder,
and a key for rigidly securing said shoulders in locking engagement, the key comprising ay body portion positioned intermediate the plug element and the member and a head portion positioned outside of the aperture and provided with a boss for insertion in a recess formed inthe plug element, the body portion being adapted to be moved intok the enlarged base portion when the head portion is removed therefrom to permit of the withdrawal of the plug element` from the member.
Other objects and applications of my invention, as wellas details of construction and operation, wherebyk my invention maybe practiced, will be clear from the following description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure lis a side elevational view of a r0- F igs. 6, 7 and 8 are top, sideand end views',
respectively of one of the keys shown in Figs. 12 and 2. v
vIn the illustrated form of embodiment of my invention shown in the drawing, I providea rotary Crusher construction', which is particularly applicable to coal-burning furnaces, comprising a power shaft 1 having a square portion 2, opposite parallel sides thereof being adapted to serve as supports for pairs of oppositely extending Crusher teeth 3 and 4, respectively.
p The-pairs of crusher teeth 3 and 4, which may be of rectangular cross section, are loosely mounted in apertures 5 and V6 formed in clamping shell members 8 and 9, respectively. The inner surfaces of eachv of the shell menibers comprise vertical portions 11 andhorizontal portions 12`which directly engage the sides of the shaft end portion 2. The horizontal and vertical portions 11 and 12 on opposite sides of the shaft portion 2 are provided with aligned perforations 13 and 14,
respectively, which are adapted to receive clamping bolts 15, whereby they shellmembers 8k and 9 may be rigidly secured to the square portion 2 of the driving shaft 1.
The apertures 5 and 6 are provided with enlarged base portions 16 forming shoulders 17, 17" for reasonsas will appear more fully hereinafter. The pairs of teeth 8 and 4 are provided with shoulder portions or locking` apertures or borings 5 and 6, respectively, by means of self-locking keys 19.
The keys 19 comprise a body portion 21, which is positioned between the side of the teeth away from the shoulder portion 18 and the adj acent side of the shell apertures, and a head portion 22, which is positioned outside of the apertures. The head portion 22 is provided with a pair of locking bosses 23 and 24 which fit into a transversely extending recess formed in the adjacent surface of the teeth. The side of the head 22 opposite the bosses 23 and 24 may be beveled, as shown in the drawing, forming a supporting shoulder portion 24 which overhangs an edge portion 25 of the crusher shell member 9. The
keys are preferably formed to have a predetermined spring action for reasons as will presently appear, and also consist of a material which may be fractured at will, whereby the head portion 22 thereof may be severed from the body portion 21 to permit of the latter being forced into the enlarged base portion 16 to effect the release of the wedged tooth. f In assembling the above noted parts, the shells 8 and 9 are first rigidly secured to the square portion 2 of the driving shaft 1 by means of the bolts 15. The pairs of teeth 3 and 4 are next positioned in the apertures or sockets 5 and 6, respectively, with the shoulder portions 18 thereof in locking engagement with the shoulder portions 17 of the shells 8 and 9. The spring keys 19 are then wedged in the space between the teeth and the walls of the apertures, as above set forth, the spring of the material of the keys 19 permitting an inward movement until the bosses 23 and 24 snap into the laterally extending tooth recess 25, thereby locking the key 19 rigidly in position.
If one of the pairs of teeth 3 and 4 should be broken during the operation of the Crusher,
" the same may be readily removed and replaced without the heretofore additional necessary step of removing the clamping shells 8 and 9. This desired result is elfected in my invention, as hereinabove described, by breaking the head portion 22 of the key 18, which is holding the broken tooth in position, from the body portion 21 and thereafter removing the body portion 21 to permit of the disengagement of the shoulders 17 and 18 and the removal of the broken tooth from the clamping shell.
`When the head 22 is broken oft, the body portions 21 may be pried out of the shell aperture. Or, if the body portion 21 should become wedged therein, it may be forced inwardly until it falls into the enlarged base portion 16 of the aperture in question, and is moved under the shoulder 17, as shown in dot-and-dash line in Fig. 2. Since the cost of each key 19 represents an exceedingly small amount as compared with the expense inythat only such limitations shall be imposed thereon as are indicated in the appended claims or as are demanded by the prior art.

In combination, a member having a Vsocket provided with arecess, a second member mounted in said socket and provided with a locking portion inserted in said recess, said second member also having a recess, and a key securing said second member in its locked position, said key having a portion of substantially uniform cross section inserted in said socket, and a fracturable head portion projecting from the socket, and said head portion having a boss inserted in the recess of said second member.
- 2. A rotary crusher comprising a socket Y- having at the base thereof a shoulder-forming recess together with a second and oppositely arranged recess, a plug element inserted in said socket and provided with a locking shoulder portion engaging with said iirst-mentioned shoulder, and a'spring key securing said parts in position, said key comprising a body portion positioned within said socket and intermediate a wall of said socket and said plug element, and a fracturable head portion positioned outside of said socket, said body portion of the key being displaceable from between said wall and the plug into said second recess when said head portion is removed to thereby permit retraction of the plug from the socket.
3. In combination, a member comprising a socket having a recessed base portion form ing a shoulder, a plug element provided with a locking shoulder portion engaging with said first-mentioned shoulder, said element having a recess, and a key securing said parts in position, said key comprising a body portion of substantially uniform cross section positioned in said socket intermediate a wall ing shoulders, said teeth being positioned in said apertures and being provided with locking shoulder portions said rst-mentioned shoulders, each of said teeth being provided with a recess, and keys securing said teeth in the respective apertures With the said shoulders in locking engagement, said keys each comprising a body portion of substantially uniform cross section positioned Within said aperture and intermediate a Wall of said aperture and said tooth, and a heady portion positioned outside of said aperture and provided with a boss inserted in said tooth recess.
