Description

Oct. 18, 1932. G. P. GRANT ROCKABLE DELIVERY DEVICE FOR VENDING MACHINES Filed Dec. 20, 1928 N m6 m? m #N R A G ATTORNEY re TATES GARNET I. GRANT, or LONG ISLAND CITY, NEW YORK, AssICNoR'To AUTO-SALES CORPORATION, on LONG ISLA1\TD CITY, NEW YCRK, A CoRroRATIoN on NE YORK RC KARLE DELIVERY DEVICE For. VEND NG MACHINES .App1ication filed December 20, 1928. Serial lid-327,253.
This invention relates to a rockable delivery device for vending machines.
As is well known in the art of vending machines commodities are placed in a chute, one package on top of another. Ordinarily a coin release device of common construction commodity to be vended is forced towards the rear wall of the casing. The ordinary course of the package is graphically shown in Figure 1 of the drawing.
One of the objects of the invention is to catch the packaged commodity on a swinging plate so that the rear edge is elevated and so that the front edge, by the force of gravity. is dropped forward and downward so that it is freely released to be picked up by the purchaser.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pivotally supported plate which will contact with the back edge of a package of commodity so as to prevent the turning of the package with the effect of delivering the package with its front edge towards the front I wall of the casing containing the commodity and with the further effect of preventing the package becoming jammed in delivery.
The invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein illustrated, described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing forming part hereof is illustrated one form of embodiment of the invention in which drawing similar reference characters designate corresponding parts and in which Figure 1 is a vertical section through a common type of vending machine showing the application of the invention;
Figure 2 is a horizontal section taken ap proximately on line 22 of Figure 1 looking in the direction indicated by the arrows; and,
PATET OFFICE Figure 3 is a perspective. of a commodity containing chuteshowing the application of the invention thereto.
Referring to the drawing 4 designates a common form of easing known in the art, in which is disposed a package chute 5 arranged to receive packages 6 of commodities of any character.
At one side of the package chute5 is arranged an ejecting element force the bottom package 6 through the rear opening 8 of the package chute 5. At the back of the casing 4 is arranged the usual curved wall 9 for the purpose of directing the packages 6 towards the front of the casforegoing arrangement of elements may be considered as common knowledge.
Arranged on and secured to the slde walls of the chute 5 are cars 10 placed to support a transverse rod 11. The rod 11 may be pivotally supported on the ears 10 or a plate 12 package chute 5 are. supported upon an ordinary supporting platform 16, all contained within the casing l.
A suitable projecting bracket 17 is secured to the chute 5 at any convenient point to limit the movement forward of the rockable directing element 12, so as to prevent the rockable element 12 from swinging so far forward to occlude the movement of the packages 6 as they are forced rearwardly as shown in Figure 1.
The cycle of operation of the machine is as follows: The ejecting element 7 being actuated rearwardly or to the right hand of Figure 1 strikes the corresponding lowermost package 6 and forces it to the dotted line position, rocking the plate 12 rearwardly tothe p The package 6 at its dotted line position. rearmost edge then rests on the angular lip 15 and by gravity is dropped to the position of the second dotted line position of Figure 1 so that it is directed by the curved plate 9 towards the front end of the casing &.
7 constructed to 1 ,65 ing 4. For the purposes of this patent the Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
In a vending machine, the combination comprising a Vertical delivery chute contain ing a stack of articles to be vended, means for ejecting the lowermost article of the stack laterally from the chute, a rockable member pivoted so as to swing toward and from the chute, a lip carried on the lower end of the member at a position below the chute and an abutment for maintaining the rockable member with its lip out of vertical alignment with the chute, the arrangement being such that one end of the article during its ejection from the stack is carried by the lip of the rockable member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
