This invention relates to improvements in containers, with special reference to receptacles for thin flat articles for storage purposes:

More specifically the device is adapted for holding printers cuts or electrotypes.

These articles are invariably of one thickness, known as type-high, usually rectangular, and of varying sizes, ordinary being placed in drawers or on shelves in any convenient part of a printing plant.

l Jhen thus disposed a very considerable amount of space becomes necessary and the electrotypes are subject to a collection of dust, furthermore, if packed one on top of another they may be seriously damaged and difficulty always arises when a certain electro required It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a cabinet arranged to receive a plurality of container casings having removable covers and of a depth equal to the thickness of a single electrotype.

A further feature is in the provision of means for retaining such casings in an upright, vertical position with substantially no space intervening one from another.

Another aim is to produce a container which is capable of being removed from the cabinet, placed horizontally and the cover removed so as to permit ready access to the desired elect-rotype, which may be indicated on the casing and portion of the cabinet in which the container belongs.

These several advantageous objects are at tained by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Fig. 1 is a fragmentary front elevational view of a cabinet showing containers arranged therein.

deferring now more particularly to Fig. 1, of the drawing, an upper left handcorner of a cabinet isshown comprising a corner post 10, and intermediate support 11, these being rigidly connected at their upperends by cross bars 12 and at their bottoms by similar bars 13.

Rigidly secured on the adjacent surfaces of the bars 12 and 13 are a plurality of-uniformly spaced right angular elements 115, preferably provided with extending flanges 16, while on the bottom bar 13 are plain'right angle guides 17 r The upper and lower guides, which constitute a series of track-ways, are adapted'to receive between them in an upright position thin metallic containers, generally indicated by the numeral 18, the same consisting of flat rectangular plates 19, having raised flanged side edges 20, similar raised flanges 21 extending from their rear edge, the last named flanges being bent forwardly constituting overhang ng ledges 22.

The front edge of the container body is also upturned at a right angle, as at 23, toa slightly greater heigh than the side flanges;

A cover25 is provided withdownreaching s de flanges 26 adapted to closely engage over the corresponding raised flanges 20 of the container, the rear edge of the cover being receivable under the ledge 22.

The cover is further provided with a down reaching flange 27 having a rear-reaching ledge 28 adapted to engage below the plate 19 of the container, and in its front flange 27 is an elongated opening 29 through which is extensible a handle 30 rigidly set in the front wall 23 of the container body.

Underneath the handle 30 is a pivot 31 on which is mounted a double ended button 32, which, together with the handle 30, may pass through the opening 29 when in one position and when in another position, transverse to the body of the container, holds the cover and body firmly together.

In the modification shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the bottom plate 19 is formed with raised side flanges 20 a raised flange 23 and its front edge is bent forwardly to constitute a ledge 38.

A cover plate 35 is formed with shallow down-reaching flanges 36 at its side edges and a deeper flange 37 at its rear edge forwardly turned to constitute a ledge 38 to pass under the lower surface of the plate 19.

A handle 39 is fixed to one of the side flanges of the body element by which the container may be moved into and out of cabinet in an obvious manner.

I It will be seen that when the cover is in position that its front edge is disposed below the ledge 33 while its corresponding ledge 88 is below the container bottom wall 19, thus holding the contents which may be placed thereinin their assembled positions.

In addition the cabinet cross bar 12 may bear a series of numerals as at 40 and corresponding exponent numerals, as at 41, may be carried by the sides of the cabinet, it being understood that these numerals are made in conformity with an index to the contents of the cabinet aiding in the selection of any desired electrotype.

While certain preferred embodiments of this device have been shown and described, it will be understood that changes in the form, arrangements, proportions, sizes and details thereof may be made Without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A container for electrotypes comprising a shallow rectangular sheet metal body having a cover engageable over its side walls, interengaging elements on said body and cover located only at their opposed respective ends whereby the cover is prevented from rising when in operative closed position, said cover having an opening in its front wall, and a handle fixed on the front wall of said body to protrude through the mentioned cover opening.
