Description
Oct. 11, 1932. N. N. SCHROEDER FACE MASSAGING INSTRUMENT Filed Nov 8, 1930 Patented Oct. 11, 1932 a I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application filed November 8, 1930. Serial 1%. 494,370.
This invention relates to an instrument extends longitudinally from the, stopper. adapted to. be used for the purpose of beau- All of these parts maybe formed from glass tifying the face, and has for one of its obor any other suitable material. jects to provide a novel, simple and inexpen- The stopper 4 is of solid cylindrical forma-e 5 sive instrument of this character, and which tion and is smaller diametrically than the shall be adapted to be as readily manipuinner diameter of the roller 1. It is pro lated by the person whose face is to be beau- Vided at its outer side with an annular shoultified as well as by an attendant so as to perder 7 which is larger diametrically than the mit its use in the privacy of a. home as well inner diameter of the roller 1, and it is provid-v 10 as in beauty parlors. ed at its inner side with lugs 8 which extend To attain the foregoing and other objects, inwardly and outwardly beyond the lateral A V the invention comprehends the provision of side thereof. Awasher 9, which may be made an instrument of the character stated which a from cork or any other suitable material, is shall embody a hollow roller adapted to be positioned upon the stopper 4 between the filled with ice and terminally provided with shoulder 7 and lugs 8, and is held by the handle shoulder and lugs against accidental dis- The invention .further comprehends the placement from the stopper while the latter provision of an instrument of the character is being inserted in or removed from the stated whereinthe roller shallhave one end open end 5 of the rollerl. The washer 9 is 20 open and the other closed, wherein one of of considerable thickness and has asnug fit the handles shall be secured to the closed in the open end 5 of the roller 1, to the end end of the roller, and wherein the other hanthat it may. establish a liquid tank connecdle shall be provided with a closure for the tion between the stopper 4 and theroller and open end of the roller and adapted to reto the end that it may hold the stopper 25 movably secure such handle to such end of against accidental withdrawal from the roll the roller. er and hold it and the handle 6 carried'there- The invention is hereinafter more fully by against any tilting or rockingemovement described and claimed, and illustrated in the wlth respect to the roller; when the massagaccompanying drawing,-wherein:- lng instrument is in use.v f V V e Figure 1 is a sectional view taken on a he handles 2 and 6 are arranged with plane extending centrally and longitudinally their longitudinal axes in 'ali'nement with each through the massaging instrument. other andwlth the corresponding axis of the Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on a roller, 1, and they are preferably made of plane extending transversely through the hollow formation and for the sake of light-V 35 roller portion of the massaging instrument, nesst The handles'Q and 6 are of'circular Figure 3 is a detail view in side elevation formation in cross section and gradually inof the combined stopper and removable crease in diameter from their inner to their handle of the massaging instrument, and outer ends, to permit them to be comfortably Figure 4: is a view similar to Figure 1 of a gripped and toprevent the hands from s'lipg 49 slightly modified form of the massaging inping therefrom while the massaginginstru- 'strument. ment is being used. The handle 6 is con- The massaging instrument comprises a nected to the stopper4 in order that the, roller 1 which is fully closed at one end and stopper maybe provided with means through fully open at the other, the cylindrical and the medium of which may be easily and 40 end walls of the rollers being imperforate. quickly inserted or withdrawn from the open- A handle 2 is formed integrally with and exing 5 of the roller'l.
tends longitudinally from the end wall 3 Inpr'actice, the roller is filled w th'c'rushed of the roller 1. A stopper 4 is removably polce, and is rolled over the face under the sitioned in the open end 5 of the roller 1, pressure necessary to eifect thereductionof and a handle 6 is formed integrally with and the surplus flesh of the face. The imperforate walls of the roller and the stopper preventing the escape from the roller of the water accumulating therein as the result of the melting of the ice.
The handle 2 may be connected to the closed end of the roller 1, and the handle 6 may be connected to the stopper 4, in a manner to permit the roller to rotate with respect to the handles while the instrument is being used. To attain this end, the handle 2 is connected to the end wall 3 of the roller 1 by a spindle 10, and the handle 6 is connected to the stopper A by a spindle 11, as shown in Figure 4. The spindle 10 passes axially through the roller wall 3 and the handle 2, and the ends thereof are upset to provide heads 10a which serve to secure the handle and spindle to the roller 1. V
The spindle 11 extends axially through the stopper 4 and handle 6, and the ends thereof are upset to provide heads 11a which serveto secure the handle and spindle to the stopper. While I have described the principle of the invention, together with the structures, which I now consider the preferred embodiment thereof, it is to be understood that the structures shown are merely illustrative and that such changes may be made, when desired, as fall within the scope of the invention as claimed. What is claimed is 7 1. A massaging instrument comprising a hollow roller open at one end and closed at the other, a handle extending longitudinally from the closed end of the roller, a cylindri cal stopperfor the open end of the roller and providedat its outer side with an annular shoulder and at its inner side with lugs extending outwardly beyond the lateral side 40 thereof, a washer positioned upon the stopper between the lugs and shoulder and'held in placethereby, the stopper being of'considerable thickness and having a snug fit in the open end of the roller, and a handle extending outwardly from the stopper. 7
2. A massaging instrument comprising a hollow roller open at one end and closed at the other, a handle extending longitudinally from the closed end of the roller, a cylindrical stopper for the open end of the roller and having a diameter considerably less than the inner diameter of the roller and provided at its outer side with an annular shoulder and lugs and held in place thereby, thewasher i being of considerable thickness and having a snug fit inthe roller, and a handle extending longitudinally from the stopper, the handles I being of'cirfcular formation incross section and increasing in diameter from their inner to their outer ends.
'3. A massaging instrument comprising a cylindrical roller of hollow construction closed at one end, the roller being provided at its other end with an opening having a diameter equal to the inner diameter of the roller to facilitate the placing of a cooling medium within the roller, a handle extending longitudinally from the closed end of the roller,
a stopper removably positioned in the open a cylindrical stopper for the open end of the roller having a diameter less than the inner diameter ofthe roller and provided at its outer side with an annular shoulder and at its inner side with lugs extending beyond the lateral side thereof, a washer positioned upon the stopper between the shoulder and thelugs and held in place thereby, the washer being of a thickness to removably secure the stopper within the open end of the roller, thehan-I dle being of circular formation in cross section and increasing in diameter from the inner to the outer end.
In testimony whereof I hereunto, atfix my signature.
