eferring now more particularly to the drawings, it may be seen that the device embodying my invention is applied to a mining machine of the well known overcutting or slabbing type, andcomprises means for gathering and conveying the cuttings away from said machine and depositing said outtings on the mine floor remote from the face in the gob or in any suitable receiving device, such as I have described in a prior application, Serial Number 243,846, filed December 31,1927. 'p i The mining machine 10 comprises a truck portion 11 supported on axlesand wheels in an ordinary manner. An auxiliary supporting frame 14 is mounted for rotation near the forward portion of the truck 11 and has suitable means'thereon for supporting a cutting element 16. Herein said supporting means comprises a plurality of supporting arms 17, 17, having racks 18, 18, thereon. Pinions 19, 19, on the cutting element 16 mesh with theracks 18. The pinions 19, 19 are connectible with a motor 20 carried by the cutting element 16 through any suitable gearing means (which need not be described here since it is no part of my invention), for vertically moving said cutting element in the racks 18 to provide a means for cutting at a plurality of vertical heights. The supporting frame 14 is also rotated by a suitablegear reduction means from a motor 21 on the rearward portion of the truck portion 11 in the well known manner of machines of this type. Therefore, when the frame 14 is rotated, the cutting element 16 is moved in an are which in turn provides a means for sumping a cutter bar 22 having a cutter chain 23 thereon into the coal for cutting said coal.
Referring now more particularly to the novel features of my invention, cuttings gathering and conveying means are provided to gather the cuttings discharged from the outter chain 23 while said cutter chain is cutting a kerf along a mine wall, and discharge said cuttings beyond the machine into the gob or into any suitable receiving device. To aocomplish this a conveying element 25 is detachably supported on the side of the truck portion 11 adjacent the face of the coal when the mining machine is moving parallel to the face of the coal to cut a kerf therein, so
thatsaid conveying element is directly beneath the cutter bar 22 when the longitudinal axis of said cutter bar is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the truck portion 11. The conveying element 25 extends to each side of the cutter bar 22 a sufiicient distance to catch all of the cuttings discharged from the cutter chain 23 and discharges said cuttings into a second conveying element 28 at one end of the truck portion 11 and disposed at right angles thereto so as to discharge the cuttings rearwardly of the cutting element 16 when said cutting element is in the position shown in Figure '1. The conveyor element 28 is preferably also supported on the same track which supports the mining machine on a trailer truck29, as

I j V From the above description, it may be seen that my invention comprises a cutting machine of the'slabbing or over-cutting type vknown manner, as,'for instance, by drive having incorporated therewitha means to catch anddis'charge the cuttings into the gob beyond the mining machine or load said outtings into any suitable receptacle. Said invention is especially. adapted for use in cut- .di'rt hands out of coal. The cutter chain .23 on the cutter bar 22 is adapted to cut into the dirt band and expel said dirt from the 'kerf formed by said cutter chain. The dirt cut 'out'by the cutter'chain 23 is caught by the cuttings deflecting means 30 anddeflected to the conveying element 25 which deposits these cuttings into the conveyingelement 28 on the trailer truck '29. The conveying element 28 in turn deposits said cuttings into the gob or anysuitable receiving device. .It may now be seen thatmy invention provides a simple means of separating the dirt from the coal and conveying said dirt away from the face 'ofthe'coal'and that'my invention is as adaptable and useful in'loading the slack-"coal cuttings as in separating the dirt from thecoa-l.

"conveyor at one side of said truck and extending longitudinally therealong, said conveyor being beneath said cutting element, an auxiliary truck, and a conveyor pivotally mounted on an axis extending longitudinally of said auxiliary truck whereby said conveyor may receive the vcut-tings discharged from said first mentioned conveyor and discharge said cuttings beyond said truck.
4. In an apparatus of the class described,
