This invention relates to an apparatus for operating stamping machines.
An object of the invention is to provide apparatus of the character described wherein a plurality of the ordinary hand operated stamping machines may be mounted and whereby the said stamping machines may be simultaneously operated. The apparatus has been particularly designed for holding and operating a plurality of stamping machines whereby checks and check stubs may besimultaneously and correspondingly numbered.
While the apparatus has been particularly designed for use in numbering checks and check stubs it is capable of use for similar purposes, not only for correspondingly numbering checks and check stubs but may also 1 be used for correspondingly numbering tickets and the stubs thereof and for other similar purposes.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, operation 5 and arrangement of parts an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, where- 1n:

Figure 4 shows a plan view of a check pad as numbered by said apparatus.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures the numeral 1 designates the table which is preferably rectangular in form and which is supported on the legs 2. Secured to and upstanding from opposite ends of the table are the tubular housings 3, 3 whose lower ends have the aligned vertical slots 4, 4. There is a frame 5 also preferably rectangular in form whose'ends 5 work in said slots 4, said frame 5 being located above the table 1. Each housing 3 has a cross pin at its upper end to which the upper end of the corresponding pull 1 there are the spaced standards 21, 21 havspring 7 is attached. Said pull springs are located in said respective housings and their lower ends are attached to the corresponding ends 5 of the frame 5. There are the depending coil springs 8, 8 whose upper ends are located in the corresponding housings 3 and are attached to said end members 5. There is a cross yoke 9 beneath thetable to whose ends the lower ends of the springs 8 are attached. There is a lever 10 which is mounted to pivot on the cross rod 11 supported by the rear legs 2 and whose free end extends forwardly and is formed into a foot pedal 12. A link 13 is connected at its upper end to the'yoke 9 and at its lower end to the lever '10. There are the supplemental rectangular holders 14, 14 in the frame 5. These holders have the end pintles 15, 15 which extend through the oblong slots as 16, 16 in the side of the frame 5 and are threaded to receive the clamp nuts 17, by loosening the nuts 17 the holders 14 may be adjusted lengthwise in the frame 5. Mounted'in these shoulders 14 are the stamping machines 18. These machines are secured in place by means of the set screws 19 which work through the slots 20 in the sides of the holders 14 as more clearly shown in Figure 2. Provision is thus made for adjusting the stamping machines 18 toward and from each other in their respective holders 14.
U pstanding from the rearside of the table ingthe upper end bearings in which the cross rod 22 is located and attached to the ends of said cross rod 22 are the side arms 23, 23 whose free ends are connected by a cross rod 24 forming a grip. There is an intermediate cross rod 25 whose ends are supported in suitable bearings in the arms 23. There are the connecting rods 26, 26 whose upper ends have bearings on the cross rod 25 and whose lower ends are outwardly turned and bolted to the intermediate cross cleat27. This cross cleat supports the heads 28, 28 which are .aligned over the plunger heads 29 of the corresponding stamping machines and the heads 28-are further secured together by the end cross cleats 30, 30.
A pad as 31 of blank checks or other matter to be numbered is placed on the table 1 and is held in proper position thereon by the upstanding pins 32. The numbering machines 18 are then properly adjusted in the frame into the proper relation with the checks to be numbered. These stamping machines are of a conventional construction and are in common use and a specific disclosure of their construction and operation is not deemed to be necessary herein. The, drawings and description disclose what is now considered to be a preferred form of the invention by way of illustration, only, while the broad principle of the invention will be defined by the appended claims.
IWhat I claim is:
Y 1. Apparatus of the character described comprising a work supporting table, a frame suspendedabove the table, means the frame for securing stamping machines in said frame, means for lowering the frame onto thework on said table and means for operating the machines in said frames.
2. Apparatus of the character described, comprising work supporting, table, means for holding a' plurality of stamping machines assembled above the table, means; for lower- I ing; the assembly onto the work and means for operating said'machines.
3. Apparatus of the character described for holding a plurality of stamping machines yieldingly above the table, means for lowerng said assembly into stamping relation with the work on the table, and means for simultaneously operating said machines.
4. Apparatus of the character described compr sing a work support, means for holding: a; plurality .of stamping'machines in as- I sembled relation, means for suspending the assemblyabove the work on said table, means for lowering the assembly onto the work and 5.
