UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
WILLIAM D. EWART, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO EWART MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LINKS FOR DRIVE-CHAINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [88,116, dated March 6, 1877 application filed November 20, 1875.
v of the attachment; Fig. 4, a plan and crosssection of the attachment in another form; Fig. 5, a plan and elevation of still another modification; and Fig. 6 a plan of a modified form of the invention, as shown in Fig. 5.
The invention is an improvement upon the link for which Letters Patent No. 154,594
were granted to me September 1, 1874, and
reissued.
My present invention consists in an attachment to the link, for the purpose of fastening slats or other like articles thereto, said attachment being cast in one piece with the link.
In Fig. 1, th link A is provided with a projection, B, at o e side thereof, cast at the same time and in ne piece with the link. The piece B has two flanges, b b, between which the slat is placed, and fastened by a rivet passing through the hole 12.
In Fig. 2 a similar attachment is shown extending across from link to link of two chains, so as to furnish a support to the slat throughout its entire length. This form may also be used for the purpose of attaching elevatingbuckets to the chains.
In Fig. 3 the piece B is shown in the form of a loop in the top of the link, and extending from one side to the other. The end of the slat is placed upon top of this loop-plate, and fastened thereto.
In Figfdthe attachment is constructed in the form of a box at the side of the link, into whch the end of the slat is inserted.
The form shown in Fig. is intended for use with only one chain, the slats being at-" tached to the links near their centers, and supported upon the broad faces b b of the link, and riveted to the vertical flanges B B.
ln Fig. 6 a link is shown for the same purpose, but with lugs or cars cast upon the sides, to which the slats are fastened, being placed upon the under side of the link.
In several of the figures I have shown the link cast with fluted sides; but this form constitutes no part of this invention, and will be claimed in another application.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A link, A, for drive-chains, having a central open space to receive sprockets, provided with a supplementary piece or pieces, B, cast in one piece with one or more of the link-bars, and adapted in form and construction to receive and hold the slats of a conveyor, which are to be fastened thereto, substantially as described.
WILLIAM D. EWART.
In presence of- HEINRICH F. BEUNS, L. A. BUNTING.
