Supporting portion 3 is in the nature of a housing. Gears are engaged in the housing Q for the purpose hereinafter described. The supporting member 1 is provided with outwardly extending flanges or track portions 4. A pair of spaced-apart vise members 5 and 6 are disposed on the supporting member 1.
Each of said vise members comprises a frame 7 having side portions 8 and 9 and a top portion 10. Thus it will beseen that when the wheel 17 is rotated, the vise frame 7 will be moved along the supporting frame 7 1; The side 9 of the vise frame 7 is provided with" an extending portion 18 to which is movably connected, a locking member 19 having a handle 20. The locking member 19 is adapted for engaging a side of the supporting member 1 whereby the vise frame'may be locked in position; The vise frame 7 is provided with a pair of gripping members 21 and .22 disposed one above other and 1 .adapted for vertical movement towardor away from each other. A shaft 81 is disposed within the supporting member 1. The shaft has one end 82 slidably and rotatably mounted in a bearing member 83 connected with the supporting member and the other end 84 rotatably mounted'in a projecting portion. 85 of the carriage 24. Since the die stock 42 is fixedly mounted withinxthe casing 33, the casing 33, thedie stock 42 and the dies .48 carried thereby, to-
' gether' with thepins 62 and63, the ring member 59, vthe ring plate 75 and the adjusting ring 77, will be rotated as a unit by the gear A pair of housings 88 and 89 are mounted on the exterior of the: end 34'of the casing by any suitable means'such as bolts 90.
. The housings 88 and89 are oppositely positioned with respect to the opening 46. The housing 88 is provided with aforked bearlng member 91 which extends without the housing and is adapted for being moved radially with respect to the casing 33 by means of a manually actuated wheel 92. The housing 82 is provided with a cutting member 93 which is likewise mounted in thehousing 89 and is also adapted for being moved radially with respect to the casing 33 by means of a wheel 94. 'The construction of the housings 88 and 89 and their associated mechanisms is not shown since the same is old intheart and other types of such mechanisms might be utilized without departing from the spirit of my invention.
As shown in Figure4 the end34 ofthe section 36 which, togetherwith the section 35, comprises the casing 33 is provided with lug portions 95 receivable in recesses 96 of the section 35. Di'ametrically opposed projecting members 97 areconnected with the end 34 of the section 36 on opposite sides of the opening 46 for a, purpose hereinafter described. As shownjin Figure 1 a gear 98 is rigidly mounted thereon and is in mesh with a gear 99Tmounted on a shaft 100 which in turn is rotatably mounted in the supporting portion 3 of the supporting member- 1. The 7 gear 99 is connected by atrain of gears to a motor 101. Thegears disposed in the housing support-3 function as a transmission and may be shifted by any desirable means i not shown for varying the speed ratio of the gear98 with respect to the motor shaft 102. a From the foregoing let us assume that it is'desired' that apiece of pipe becut atany intermediate points and that the cut end portions be threaded. A'pipe 103 shown in dotted line position in Figure 1 is inserted through theopening 46, the stock opening 45, and the opening 79. By-moving the handles 20'upwardly and rotating the wheels 17, the vises 5 and 6 may be moved on the supporting table 1 until they are in the proper position for supporting thepipe. The wheels 23 of the visesare then rotated until the gripping members 21 and 22 engage and hold the pipe. Before the pipe is put in the machine it is first marked where'it is desired to be out. lVhen the pipe is put in the vises,
the mark is positioned in the vicinity of the cutter 93. When the pipe has been locked in the gripping members 21 and 22, the wheel 17 of. the vise 5 may then be-iotated for bringing the mark on the pipe in the path of the cutter 93, at which time the handles 20 of the locking members on both the vises 5 and 6 are moved downwardly for locking the vises in position. The bearing member 91 is then moved in engagement with the pipe so thatthe pipe will not buckle while being cut. The gears in the housing support 3 are then shifted by any means not shown for rotating the shaft 81 at the proper speed whereby the casing 33 may be rotated by which means the cutter 93 rotates about the pipe for cutting the same; After the pipe 1 7 line with the apices of the pin members 63.
The vises 5 and6 are again locked to the supportil'ig member.
The shaft 81 is again set in motion for rotating the casing 33. The wheel 31 shown in Figure 1 is then rotated in a counterclockwise direction for moving the carriage'24 in the direction of the arrow 105 at which time the die stock 42 as shown in Figure2 moves along the pins 62 and 63. Asthe die stock moves along the pins'62 and 63,"the dies 48, by reason of their travelling along the beveled surfaces 71 of the pin 63, are moved travels along the pins inthe direction of the arrow 105 until the dies 48' reach the apices 72 of the pins 63, at which time they have reached the peak of their in'ward movement inwardly for threading the pipe and con- 'tinue moving inwardly as the die stock 42 pins63. Until the dies move out of engage:

The springs con-. nectedwith the stock member 42- and riding v on the beveledlsurfaces of the pins 63 are provided for; keeping. the beveled surfaces free fromthe cuttings so that the dies will not ride, over the cuttings and thereb'y'make an irregular cut. It will readily be seen that itis only necessary that the wheel .31 be rotated for moving the carriage 26 until the dies engage with the pipe as the dies in. out ting the pipe will; carry the carriagealo'ng until they have completed the threadlng of the pipe and move out of engagement there- After the pipes have been threaded the shaft 81 has ceased rotating, the vise lock 19 I is then moved, out of engagement with the supporting member 1 and. the vises moved f away fromeach other sothat the ends ofthe pipe cannot "come in contact with the dies regardless of the position of the carriage 26. After the burs have been removed the pipe sections are then removedffrom the-vises. It will readily be seenthat the reamer'must be removed be- ;fore'another pipe can be inserted inthe deviceforbeing cut and-tl1readed.

A device of the type described comprising a supporting frame, a pair of vise members movably mounted on the supporting frame andvdisposed in spaced-apart positions, means for holding the vise members in locking engagement with the supporting frame, said vise members being adapted for gripping a cylindrical member, a housing movably mounted on the supportlng frame and positioned between the vise members, a drum rotatably mounted inithe' housing, a cutting element mounted on the drum and adapted forcutting the cylindrical member for providing a pair of cylindrical sections,said vise members being adapted for supporting the sections, a die stock mounted in said drum,

A device of the type described comprising a supporting frame, a pair of vise members movably mounted on the supporting frame and disposed in spaced-apart positions, said vise members being adapted for gripping a cylindrical member, a housing movably mounted on the supporting frame and positioned between the vise members, a drum rotatably mounted on the housing, a cutting element mounted on the drum and adapted for cutting a cylindrical member for providing a pair of cylindrical sections, said vise members being adapted for supporting said sections, a die stock mounted on the drum and provided with longitudinal openings therethrough, bar members disposed in said openings and provided with beveled faces, said die stock being slidable with respect to the bar 1nembers,'diemembers mounted in the die stock and radially movable with respect thereto, said die members being in engagement with the bar members for providing the cylindrical sections with tapered threaded end portions when the drum is rotated, and means for changing the radial position of the bar members with respect to the die stock for varying the depth of the cut of said die members. s
