WALKEB,..OF nnmlanreoms;v INDIANA FILING FOLDER This invention relates to the art of filing folders and has for its primary object the providing of a folder: particularly adapted for use in connection with collection accounts 3 wherein a follow-up indicator is incorporated together with means for a permanent progres, sive record of an account in addition to being adapted to receive and hold correspondence or other papers relating to the. account.

Reference is. made to the accompanying drawings illustrative of the invention, in which Fig. 1 shows the front of a folder embodying my inventionand Fig. 2, a view of the interior of the folder. Like characters of reference indicate like parts in the two views.

I form a folder by bending a sheet of suitable material along a .fold 9 to have a front page 10, inner pages 11 and 12, and a rear page 13. The front page has numbers printed consecutively along the top margin indicating-daysin a month. A space isleftbelow these numbers in which the name of the creditor and other data concerning him may be entered. The underside of this space is defined by a horizontally disposed slit 14 cut through the. sheet on which pages 1 and 2 apear. t he edge of. the sheet so that the part of the page above the slit remains tied to the part below. I place a fiattenedendless band 15 about the portion of the page above the slit 14 to have the band pass over the top edge of the page and through the slit. The width o-f'the bandis just sufficient to cover any one number alongthe upper page margin. Preferably, the upper end of the'band is colored differently from the folder material so that its-position along thefolder edge maybe readily recognized, particularly when the folder isone ofa number of'other similar folders in a-filing cabinet. V

That part of the folder forming pages 3 and 1 has its up,- 6 per edge: cut off so that its page height is less by about aquarter of an inch than are pages 1 and 2;,thepn-rpose of thelesser height-being to allow the band 15 to be readily observed without being concealed by the back of the 7 folder particularly when a number of the folders are filedtogether. A margin 16 is left across the-top of page 3' to indicate a space to which correspondence or other papers l7'may be attached such as by staples 18. Of course, such papers may be loosely insert.- ed in the folderbetween pagesQIan-d' 3, but a permanent file is created by fixing the papers to the folder.

Toillustrate the method of using the folder, assuming that'an account is being placed on r the folder for the first time in July and that account includes items which should have been paid in the previous May, the names of the months beginning with May are written consecutively down the first column, page 1, Fig. 1, with one name between adjacent heavy Taking the amount of the July statement to the creditor as being $37.50 that amountis placed in the Monthly statement balance column on'the line to theright of the'month of July. In that statement was included the sum of $15.00 which should have been paid in May. This delinquent balance of $15.00 isaccordingly placed on the top line opposite; the month of May under the column Delinquent balances. Also included in the-$37.5.0 balance was a sum of $22.50 which should have been paid in June and the amountof $22.50

this amount is placed in the Cash column and the delinquent balance then becomes $10.00 for May and is so indicated. During the month of June, the account showed a credit for goods returned of $12.50 on theJune delinquent balance and this amount is entered in the Credit column opposite the month of June to cut down the June delinquent balance to $10.00 which balance is entered as the balance still due, for June. v Also, the account shows purchases made during August to come to $12.00 and this amount is entered in the Total purchases for month column opposite the month of August. The monthly statement balance for August is then the sum of the remaining May and June delinquent balances of $10.00 and $10.00 respectively plus the purchases for the month of $12.00 to give a total of $82.00. This amount is entered in the Monthly statement balance opposite the month of August and is that amount which should be billed the creditor. The band 15 is shifted along'the top of the folder to over that date on which the account should be followed up for collection or other attention. Copies of correspondence relating to the account are fixed in the folder over page 3, so that the folder then represents in one compact form the complete record of the creditors account as to payments and correspondence. The folder by continuing the form of page 1 over onto the other three pages provides sufiicient space to carry the account in the one folder for a considerable length of time. u V

By combiningthe signal band 15 directly with the folder, there is no need for a followup card or other means separate from the filing folder, filing space is reduced, and the entire record of the account is visible at a glance. v i

A collection filing foldercomprising a folded sheet having a front and a rear portion hinged together about a fold line, .atleast designated-for entry to indicate separately therein of a month, a monthly statement balance, total purchasesfor a month, date,.cash received, and credits, and horizontally lined with major lines with minor lines therebetween on which said entries may be entered, and aspace indicated on the inner side of said rear portion for attaching correspondence thereto, said front portion having a slit cut thereacross spaced back from a marginal edgethereof, and a signal member engaging through said slit to be shiftable therealong, said marginal edge having characters therealong adapted to be covered by said member, and said rear portion having its marginal edge opposite said marginal edge of the front portion cut away for a short distance therefrom.

A filing folder for accounts comprising a sheet of material folded once to form four pages,'a' printed form on each page of like nature in;which an account in analyzed form'may be entered and continued from pageto page, and a follow-up signal attached "o the front page comprising a member engaging over a marginal edge thereof, and also through a slit in thepage, said form being located on the third page to leave room thereabove for attaching papers to the page. 6. A filing folder for accounts comprising a sheet of material folded once to form four pages, a printed form on each page oflike nature in which an account in analyzed form may be enteredIand continued from page to page, and a follow-up signal attached to the front page comprising a member engaging over a marginal edge thereof and also through a slit in the page, said form being located on the third page to leave room thereabove for attaching papers to the page, and said third and fourth pages being cut off along that marginal edge under that edge of the first page over Which said signal member engages.
