A further object of this inventionis to provide `a device of this kind having means whereby the frame side may not only be re` 'i moved without scratching of the ournals but may be replaced without scratching of the journals. f
A still further object of this invention is to provide a safe handling means for the relatively heavy parts comprising the truck frame of a railway car so that these parts can be handled without injury thereto or to the workmen.

Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate corresponding parts throughout theseveral views, the letter F C designates generally a frame structure of substantially U-shaped form and the numeral designates generally an upright frame :or support secured to this lower frame Ft'thisV support 10 being constructed in two parts one oneach sidepof the frame'F with the upper ends of each part disposedin spaced parallel relationto eachother. These uprights 10 are preferably, fconstructed in `substantially invertedlV-shaped form with one leg 11 thereof substantiallyfvertical and another leg 12 extending from fthe upper end of this vertical legll to the'end of the frameF. y In this manner, the vertical leg 11 will bel disposed intermediate each end of the frame F.y y Abeam B is mounted on a bar orshaft 13 extending'between lthe upper endsV of the opposedframe members 10 and this 'beam B has a substantially horizontally disposed upper endportion14 which is extended downwardlyfrom the bar `or mounting, as at 15,Y and the lower end of this extension 15 is se cured by means of a bolt or rivet 16 or the like to the rear end-of the frame F. This 7= beam B constitutes a portion of a crane and the length of Athis horizontal extension 14 is such as to extend slightly beyond the forward end of the frame F. A sheave 17 is mounted inthe forward end of the beam 14 and a cable or flexible member 18 is trained thereover and has secured to one end a link 19 which is provided with `depending loops or hooks 2,0 at each end thereof, the purpose for which will be hereinafterdescribed. l A drum 21 is mounted on a shaft 22 journaled in the upright frame members 10v and this shaft 22 has secured thereto a worm gear 23 which is engaged by a worm 24 jour naled yin the side Vof one frame member 10'.
VA bell crank 25 is secured to a shaft 26 rotatable with the worm 24 so that this Worm 24 may be rotated at a point rearwardly of the upright frame member 10.` The opposite parallel leg members 2'? and 28 of the frame membersF are provided at the forward ends thereof with a `downwardly opening notch 29 within which the rail 30 is received so as to not only support the forward end of the thel carriage frame F but also prevent lateral movement of this frame F with respect to the rail 30.
A transversely extending shaft 31 is journaled in the frame members 27 and 28 intermediate each end thereof and a pair of forwardly extending parallel guide members 32 are secured to this shaft 31 in spaced relation to each other and extend in the direction of the forward end of the frame F. ' A pair of wedge blocks 381are removably mounted on the connecting Abar 36 and these wedge blocks have the upper surface thereof positioned in downwardly coverging relation so as to engage thetapering edgesfof the frame side Sso that when the side is engaged with the carriagewC, the-bottom of the side will reston the connecting bar 36 and the tapering sides will be engaged with these wedge blocks 38. The wedge blocks 38 have a' slot 39 to receive the connecting bar 36 and the sides of the block 38 are4 extended upwardly, as at 40, so Vasto engage on the opposite faces of the frame iside upwardly'from the bottom thereof and prevent lateral move ment of the frame side on the carriage C.
A substantially U-shaped brace ork support 41 hasV one leg thereof secured to the connecting bar 36 and the other leg is relativelyl short and provided with a laterally extending upper end portion 421for receiving a truck side supporting block 43. This supporting member 43 cooperates with the wedge vblocks 38 in holding the frame .side in upright or vertical position on the carriage C so that the carriage may be moved forward or backward on the guide rods 32. A rock shaft 44 extends between the frame members 27 and 28 adjacent the forward end thereof and inwardly ofthe slots 27 and is provided with Vcam members 45 for engagement with the guide members 32 so that when this shaft 44 is rocked, thelcam portions 45; will raise or lower the guide rods 32'and coactively raise-or lower the carriagerC.` Anv loperating lever 46 is secured vto one end of this rock shaft 44 and extends alongside one 0f the frame members. VThis lever 46is heldv in 'adjusted position by means ofa catch or rack member 47. j
j A shaft 48 extends between the parallel legs 27 and 28 inwardly of each end thereof and preferably adjacent the longitudinal center and Va pair of wheels 49 are journaled in wheel mountings 50'carried by this shaft 48. A lever 51 is secured to the shaft 48 and the rocking of this lever 51 will carry the wheels 49 into or out of engagement with the ground so that the frame F can be wheeled or rolled to the desired point. When the wheels 49 are in operative position, the lever 51 is in ,a position alongside the lower frame 'member 28 and is held in this position by means of a catch or latch member 52. When the wheels 49 are in inoperative position, the lever 51 is in substantially verj In the use of this device, the frame F may be wheeled or moved to the side o-f the car truck by. lowering the wheel carrying lever 51 so as to rock the shaft 48 and lower thel wheels49. The notches 29 of the frame members27 and 28 are engaged with the rail and in this position, the crane beam 14 will substantially voverlie the bolster of the wheel truck. The bolster engaging members 2O may Athen be secured to the bolster inwardly of the fra-me side S whereupon the drum 21 may Vbe rotated through the worm gea-r structure23 and 24 by rotating the bell crank 25, thereby raising the bolster to remove the springs, roller spring seat and rollers. The bolster may then be lowered sothat the end thereof will be positioned inthe wide opening of the side frame. The carriageC may then be raised in its forward position to engage and raise the side frame S whereupon the journal bearing wedges and journal bearings are removed. The wedge blocks 38 may be secured in position on each side off the carriage C and the frame side supporting member 43 put into position so as to prevent tilting of the frame side on the carriage C as it is moved vrearwardly by rocking the lever 34 rearwardly of the frame F. The movement of thecarriage C inwardly of the frame F will remove the frame side from the truck and thereby permit the replacing of the wheels and other parts pertaining thereto, which operation is performed without scratching the journals or bearings for the wheelaxes. In the adjustment'of the carriage C beneath the frame side, the cam shaft 44 may beraised or lowered to the desired point so that the guide bars 32 and thel carriage will be in the desired position beneath the frame side. When the wheels and other parts have been replaced, the frame side may then be moved forwardly by rocking the lever 34 which will move the carriage C toward be easily moved awaykfrom the wheels so as to permit the replacement of worn out wheels or other parts relating to the Wheel structure. In practice, there will preferably be two of these devices in use at one time, one on each side of the truck.
It is, of course, understood thatV various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention Without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
What is claimed is 1. A device as described comprising a frame, a carriage, guide members carried by the frame, means for swingably mounting the guide members in the frame, and guide adjusting means mounted in the frame and engaging the guides for adjusting the guides relative to the frame to raise or lower the carriage, said meansincluding an eccentric, an operating lever and a toothed rack for holding the lever in adjusted position.

A device as described comprising a frame, guide means mounted in the frame, means engaging` one end of said guide means for rockably mounting the guide means in the frame, a carriage mounted on said guide means, cam means carried by the frame and engaging the opposite end of said guide means for vertically adjusting said end of said guide means relative to the frame to raise or lower the carriage, a cam operating lever, and means for holding the lever in adjusted position.
3. A device as described comprising a frame, guide means, means for rockably mounting said guide means for vertical swinging movement in the frame, cam means engaging the guide means for vertically adjusting one portion of said guide means relative to the frame, an operating member for said cam means, means for holding the operating member in adjusted position, and a carriage slidably mounted on said guide means.

A device as described comprising a frame, a pair of parallel guide members mounted in the frame, means carried by the frame and engaging one end of the guide members to rockably mount said guide members in the frame, cam means engaging the opposite end of the guide means to verticallyV adj ust said opposite end relative to the frame, a cam lever, means for holding the lever in adjusted position, and a carriage slidably mounted on the guide means.
5. A device as described comprising aY frame, said frame having a notched forward end portion to engage a transversely disposed rail to prevent lateral movement of the frame relative to the rail, guide means mounted in the frame, adjustable means forV adjusting l said guide means relative to the frame, a
guide means mounted in the frame, means engaging one end of said guide means to rockably mount the guide means in the frame,
cam means engaging the opposite end of said guide means to adjust said opposite end relative to the frame, an operating lever for said cam means, a latch mounted on the frame and engaging the lever to hold said lever in adjusted position, and a carriage slidably mounted on the guide means.
7. A device as described comprising a frame, means for removably securing Vthe frame to a rail in laterally extended relation to the rail, guide means, means for rockably mounting said guide means in the frame, cam means carried by the frame and engaging said guide means to vertically adjust one portion of said guide means, operating means for said cam means, releasable locking means for holding said cam means in adjusted position, and a. carriage slidably mounted on said guide means. A device as described comprising a frame, means ,for removably securing the frame to atransversely disposed rail to prevent lateral movement of the frame relative to the rail, a pair of parallel guide members, means engaging one end of the guide members and extending transversely thereof to rockably mount said guide members in the frame, a cam member mounted in the frame and engaging the opposite end of the guide members to vertically adjust said end of said guide members, operating means for said cam member, releasable holding means for said operating means, a carriage slidably mounted lon the guide members, operating means for said carriage, and lifting means carried by the frame and disposed above the carriage to release an article for movement on the carriage longitudinally of the frame.
