With reference more in detail to the drawings it will be seen that 5 indicates generally a conventional type of window frame having the upper and lower sashes 6 and? slidably mounted therein. The reference character 8 designates a jam of the window frame. 7
According tothe present invention, a lower portion of the jamb 8 is cut away to provide an opening 9 within which is located the adjustable part of the jamb embodying the features of the present invention. Said adjustable part may be formed of metal, wood'or any other suitable material and comprises an elongated frame including a pair of spaced parallel side members 9 connected at their upper and lower ends by cross members 10 secured to adjacent portions of the j amb 8 by suitable fastening elements 11. Each of the members 10 intermediate its end is pressed outwardlyas at 12 to provide a substantially "nel 21 and one longitudinal edge of plate 9 is channel shaped stop to aline with the intermediate stop 13 of the j amb. Shafts Hand 15 are journalled in bearings 18 provided-on the inner face of a plate 19 I that may be formed of metal or other suitable material. Plate 19 intermediate its end is pressed outwardly to provide a longitudinally extending stop 20 that "is channel shaped in cross section andis adapted to aline with the stop 13. Plate 19 is normally positioned between the sides 9 with the upper end of its stop 20 received in the channel portion of the stop 12 of the upper memberlO,
and the upper portion of the stop section 12 79 ofthe lower member 10 received in the lower channel portion of the stop 20 (see Figure 2).
As shown in Figure 5, one of the side members 9 is provided with a longitudinal chanbent at right angles to the plate to provide a flange 22 adapted to engage the channel 21 when the plate 19 is so positioned in the frame as to have its stop 20 in alinement with the stop 13 for accommodating the sashes 6 and 7 to permit vertical sliding movement ofthe sashes in the usual manner. When the parts are in the position shown in Figure 1, that is with the plate 19 in position to complete the j amb 8, the interlocking connection between stop 20 and the stop sections 12 of the members 10 serve to retain the plate in position against casual displacement. When-it is desired, for any reason, such as for painting the sash, or washing the outside of the panes of either of the sashes 6 or 7, the particular sash is moved to a position oppo-' site the opening 9, as for example to that position of the lower sash 7 as shown in Figure 1. Having thus described my invention, what I wish to claim as new is: I
1. A window frame including in, combination'a amb provided with anopening, upper and lower members transversely disposed relative to the jamb in operative position to said opening, each of said members'provided with a verticalrib adapted to substantially aline with the window stop. of said ja'mb and a plate for disposition betweensaid members and provided with alongitudinally extending rib adapted to aline with said rib to form a continuation of the window stop.
2. A window frame including in combination a jamb" having an opening therein, a
frame mounted in operative position with respect to the opening and ncludlng vertical side members and horizontalupper and lower cross members connecting the side members,
' each of said cross members provided with a rib adapted to substantially aline with the window stop of the jamb, a plate, means for mounting said plate in the frame for move ment relative to the jamb and said plate provided'with a longitudinally extending rib adapted to aline with thefirst mentionedrib to form a continuation of the stop.
3. A window frame including in combination a jamb having an opening therein, a frame mounted in operative position with respect to the opening and. including vertical side members and horizontal upper and lower cross members connecting the'side members, each of said cross members provided-with a rib adapted to substantiallyaline with the window stop of the jamb, a plate, means for mounting said plate in the frame for movement relative to the jamb and said plate pro vided with a longitudinally extending rib adaptedto aline with the first mentioned ri to form'a continuation of the stop, and means for retaining'said plate in position within said frame against casual displacement.

A window frame including in combina-- tion. a jamb having an opening, :a frame The window sash may then be aline with the window stop of the jamb to form a continuation thereof, and, said frame provided with a side member having a longitudinally extending channel, and said plate provided with a flange engageable with said channel 7 for yieldably retaining said plate within theconfines of saidframe.

nation a jamb including a relatively fixed frame havlng upper andlower members-each of which hasan intermedlate portion pressed laterally to provide a window stop section,
a plate, means for mounting the plate in the frame for movement relative to the frame,
said plate having an intermediate portion 7 thereof pressed outwardly to provide a stop section elongated longitudinally of the plate to substantially aline with the first mentioned stop-sections when the plate is arranged within the frame,and all ofsaid stop sections being substantially channelshapedin'cross section and adapted to frictionally engage one with the other for yieldablyaretaining said plate in the last named position.
