pump jacks! v .7 The'general object of the inventlon 1s to provide an improved long stroke pumping Another object of the invention is to pro-' I This invention relates to improvements in vide' an improved pumping jack wherein the sucker rodis actuatedby endless chains. I
An additional object of my invention is't'o '10 provide a pumping jack operated by endless chains wherein the chainsa're operated in a novel manner. p
' j, cOther objectS' and advantages of this in ventionlwill be apparent from the following :15 description taken in" Connection "with the accompanying drawings wherein:
I Fig. lfis a" side elevation of myimproved pumpjack. I p r Fig. 2 is an end elevation ofthe pump jack.
"2M0 H'Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on line 3 3 of Fig; 1. I
j F'g is a horizontalsection taken on line I of-Fig.1., i Q I Fig. 5 is a vertical section taken on line 5+5 of Fig. 1.
I Fig.6 is an enlarged sideelevation of a portion of the endless chain showing the means for connecting the pitman thereto. 7 Fig. ,7.is a section takenonline 7 7 of Fig.

characters I have indicated my improved pump jack generally atlO. As shown the pump 1' ack 10 includes a supporting frame 11 whichis adapted to be mounted on the derrick floor adjacent the wellca sing ,12 fr om.
which a pump" actuating-"sucker rod 13 ex tends. Directly over thesucker rod'18,I provide a crosshead 14 having tongues 15 thereon which are positioned in'guide's16 secured to the framell. The sucker rod 13" may be removably connectedto the underside such as indicatedby the connection 17 I Pivotally connected to the upper portion of thecross head as at 18, I provide a pitmanrotate.
1 mission 41 may be of any desired type and is or the cross head 14 in any suitable manner.
tending upwardly therefrom I provide apair 20 comprises a pair of spacedendless chains 22 which are mounted on spaced lower sprockets 23 and spaced upper .sprockets 24. Each of the chains 22 aremade up ofa plurality ofj'pairs of links 25 which are secured 5 togetherbypins 26. To secure the connector 21 in position be tween the chains 22 a pair of links .25 oteach chain 22 are removed and the inner links of the chain positionedinslots'27 provided in 6 I i the connector and the outer links are positioned'adjacent the outer ends of the connector. Pins 28 are then positioned-inthe pin apertures of the links and in recessesr29 provided in the connector and are secured in '6 position by pinsBO. Intermediate the length of the/connector 21', I provide a reducedrporftion 31 which is cylindrical andon which the upper end of the pitman 19 is mounted to I I I ":0 -The lower'sprockets23 are each moun'ted .on a'shaft 33and each ofwhich is'journaled' in a bearing 34 mounted on the frame "11.1 The upper sprockets 24 are each mounted on a shaft 35 each of which is journaled in a '75 bearing36"mounted on the frame-11 The bearings 136- are preferably. provided with a pluralityof shaft'apertures 36 so that'the shafts 35 may be.posit ioned different distancesfrom the shafts 33' to varytlie-lengthfgb' "of the" chains 22 and therebyfich-angefthe e I p V length ofthe stroke of the pitman 19.. f ,Referring to the drawingsby reference by endless chains 38'to sprockets 39 whichare 1 5i 1 secured to a drive shaft 40 of a speedreduction transmission tl 'whichmayincludegears to allow the speedto be varied. Thetrans-' shown as driven by a shaft42 from an electric motor 43 but any other suitable drivingme'ans I 1 maybe usedif desired." @i I g For counteracting the weight of the sus- ,pended parts and that of the fluid elevated by the pump I may provide a plurality'gof 95..
weighted members 45"whichare removably positioned on a table 46 which in Pa down position rests on a plate 47 mounted on the frame, 11. [Secured tothe table 46*and ex} table 46.
of hollow tubes 48 and secured to the plate 47 and extending upwardly therefrom I provide a'pair of rods 49 which are positioned in the tubes 48 and act as guides for the Connected to the upper ends of the tubes 48 as at 50, I provide cables 51 which are positioned over pulleys 52 and connected as'at 53 to arms 54 provided on the cross head 14. The pulleys 52 are mounted on a shaft 55 which is journaled in a bearing 56 mount ed on the frame 11. i p The sucker rod 13 when the device is not operating is preferably raised with the counter'weight table in a: lowered position as shown in Fig.1. 4
When themotor 43 is startediit' rotates the lower sprocket 23 of the chain drive device through the medium of the trans"- mission 41, the 'sprockets39, the chains 38 and the sprockets 37. As the'sprockets -23 rotate they cause the chains 22 to travel overthe sprockets 24, As the chains 22 travel they move the pitman 19 downward which through the medium of the cross head 14 al lows the'sucker rod 13 to move downward V and as .the cross head 14 'movesfdownward it raises-the counter weights through the medium of the cables 51. When the'pitman 19 reaches its downward travel as shown in Fig. 5 and the chains 22 continue their travel they'move the pitman upward which throughthe medium of the cross head14 moves the sucker rod 13 upward on a fluid elevating stroke and thevcount-er weights45 move, downward with the weight thereof assisting .to "elevate Whenthe pitman 19 reaches the limit of its upward travel the chains 22 move it downward again as previously described and this upward and downward travel of'the pitman continues as long as themotor 43 isoperating.
" Any length of pumping stroke desired may be. obtained lbyraaltering the distance between the sprockets 23 and 24 and by providing for the corresponding raising or lowv ering :ofthe counter weights 45.
rom the foregoing description itwilli be apparent thatl'have provided a novel long stroke pump 3 structionandlhighly efficient in use. 1 1* Having thus described my nventiong l. claim: "I 1 1 1. vForuse with-a well casingi having a sucker rod therein, a' pump :jack, 'said pump jack including a supporting frame, a cross afl-plurality of weighted memberseon said head, spaced guides on said frame in which said cross head mamas, means to connect 'isaid sucker rod to said cross-head,'meaus to reciprocate said sucker rod, a movabletable,
