This invention relates to feeding ap aratus is adapted to convey such articles-which and more particularly to that type appahave already been sorted or separated by any ratus in which the articles;sorted in grades, suitable or well known means. The articles kinds or sizesare fed to a chocolate coatin are thus conveyed over the roller 3 and are or other treating machine or apparatus, an delivered on to the inclined plate or slide 4 55 in which the articles are shaken in order to which is preferably arranged at an angle bring them to an upright position while being somewhat less steep than the angle of inclinaconveyed on an endless band or the like. tion of the stationary slides heretofore em- In feedin apparatus of this type it has 'ployed in apparatus of this type. From the been hereto ore proposed to provide a staslide 4the articles are received on the endless 60 v tionary inclined slide which is interposed beconveyor band 5 which is guided over the flat tween conveyor means associated with -a retop of the table 6 and upon which the articles ceptacle for'the articles and a conveyor band are brought to an upright position by means which latter receives the articles from said of the guide rails 7 which are moved transslide and conveys said articles while the latter versely of the direction of travel of the artiare. being brought to an upright position by cles in the well known manner. The circular' the action of'guide rails or the like. In such brush 8 arranged above the roller 3 ofthe apparatus the proper feeding of'the articles conveyorband 1 operates in the known manis frequently interrupted by the adhering of ner to prevent obstruction at the outlet of the the articles to the stationary slide and to each receptacle 2. The conveyor band 5 is operatv other. ed by the drum 9 while the band 1 and the One object of the present invention is to brush8 are driven in any suitable or well provide an inclined slide having means for known manner preferably from the shaft 10 moving the same to insure proper feeding of hereinafter referred to. A further object of this inven- The'slide 4 is carried by pins or trunmons 75 tion is to provide means for automatically mounted in bosses 11 and in the side frames shakingor joltin the slide durin the feed- 13 mounted upon the base 12 of the machine ing operation. 5 still further 0 ject is to and at the underside thereof the slide 4 carprovide shaking or jolting means that are ries a rail or flange 14 having a slot 15 for automatically controlled in accordance with the accommodation of ablock pivoted to arod the speed of the feeding operation and a 16 in such manner that the block may be adstill further object of the invention is to projusted in the slot 15 and may be clamped at vide improved means for regulating the amany position therein. The lower end of the plitude of the shaking movement and the rod 16 is ad ust ably secured to a forked angle of inclination of the slide. bracket 18, the rod 16 be ng passed through 35 With these objects in view, the invention an eye in the member 18 and being secured consists in the novel construction and arthereto by means of nuts 17 so that longirangement of parts hereinafter described, tudinal ad uStment of the rod 16 s perillustrated in the accompanying drawing and mitted. The forked portion of the member particularly pointed out in the appended 18 engages over ashaft 19 which carries a claims, it bein understood that various toothed shaking wheel 20 -wh1ch latter 1s'en changes in the orm and minor details may gaged by a pawl 21 carried by the member be made without departing from the spirit 18 and vertically a d ustable therein by means of the invention or sacrificing any of the adof a set screw 23 mounted in the arm 22 of vantages thereof. the said member 18 It will thus be under- In the drawing the improved feeding mechstood thatthe shaking movement of the slide anism is shown in vertical section. 4 about the pivots 11 can be varied b chang- In the apparatus shown on the drawing, the ing the position of the upper end 0 the rod inclined conveyor band 1 forms the floor or 16 in the slot 15 or by ad usting the position mo bottom of a receptacle 2 for the articles and of the pawl 21 relatlvely to the forked-porthe character described, comprising endless GED tion of the member 18 and the inclination of and means for varying the angle of incli11athe slide can also be regulated by adjusting tion of the jolting sli e.
In testimony whereof we have signed our the rod 16 relatively to the member 18 through the medium of the nuts 17.
In the arrangement shown, the said shaft 19- is driven by means of a sprocket wheel 24 from a chain 25 operated by a sprocket wheel 26 on the shaft 10.
As the feed band 1 is preferably driven by suitable sprocket or like means from the said shaft 10, the speed of delivery of the articles to the slide 4, and the shaking movement of the latter maintain their proper relation and the shaft 10 may be driven at any desired speed to suit the circumstances and conditions under which the operation is taking place.
It will be understood that the number of articles fed to the slide 4 depends directly upon the speed of the conveyor band 1, and it is therefore important that the shaking or jolting motion imparted to theslide 4 be so controlled that the articles are caused to travel over the slide 4 with greater speed when a greater number of articles are fed to the slide by the conveyor 1, and this regulation of the speed of the conveyor 1 in. proportion to the olting or shaking of the slide 4 is an important feature of the present in-' vention.
Although the drawing and the above Specification disclose the best mode in which we have contemplated embodying our invention, we desire to be in no way limited to the de- ,tails of such disclosure, for in the further practical application of our invention many changes in form and construction may be made as circumstances require or experience suggests without departing. from the spirit of the invention within the scope of the appended claims.
What we claim is:
1. Apparatus for supplying articles in an upright position having feed mechanism of bands for conveying the articles, an inclined slide interposed between the bands, means for shaking the slide and means for adjusting the amplitude of the shaking movement.
2. Apparatus for the supply of articles in an upright position having feed mechanism of the character described comprising an endless conveyor band for supplying the articles, an inclined slide receiving the articles from said band, means for jolting'the slide, and means for varying the amplitude of the j0lting movement imparted to the slide.
3. Apparatus for the supply of articles in an upright position having feed mechanism of the character described comprising an endfrom said band, means for jolting the slide,
