Description

l A. M IcHELL WINDOW-CORNICE.
Nrw-187.662.
'UNITED STATES PATENT4 GEEICE.
ADAM MICHEL, OF AUBURN, YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN WINDOW-CORNlC-ES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,662, dated February 20, 1877; application filed February 2, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ADAM MICHEL. of Auburn, in the county of )ayuga and State of New York, have invented certain new and usefull Improvements in Extension Window- Uornice 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and' use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of refence marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an extension window-cornice, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, Figure l is a plan view of my. invention. Fig. 2 is a rear View,
and Fig. 3 a front View, of the same. Fig. 4
is a detailed view of a vpart thereof.
My window-cornice is made in three parts, A and B B. The center part A may be made of any desired length, and of any fanciful design, plain or more or lessornameuted, and it is made hollow or recessedV from the back to receive the end pieces B B, which are inserted from the ends of the center part A. The end parts B B are held in the center part A by means of a back plate, C, of wood or metal.
and thisplate is provided with a longitudinal slot, a, through which are passed screws b b into the inner ends of the end parts B B. Each end part B is, at its outer end, provided With an ornament, D, on the rear side of which is a hinged leaf, E, as shown. At each end of the back plate Gis a tubular projection, d, for attaching the cornice on the ordinary hooks used for that purpose. which the curtain is to be hung is made in two parts, G and G. bular, and the part G slidesl therein, and at their outer ends they are provided with arms ff, which are inserted in eyes h h, fastened in the leaves E E, the center of the rod being supported by a hook, i, on the back plate C.
The object and advantage of my invention is, that this cornice is adapted to windows of different sizes, and thus obviates the trouble and expense always vexperienced in changing from one set of windows to another.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of the hollow or recessed center part A, the back plate G, with slot a, and the end parts B B, with stops b b, substantially as set forth.
2. rlhe tubular rod G, with interior sliding rod G', in combination with the extension window-cornice A B, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
ADAM MICHEL.
