SANITARY FOOT REST FOR FURNITURE LEGS Application filed May 29, 1930. Serial No. 457,201.

The present invention relates to a device for supporting the foot of furniture legs such as tables, chairs, couches, and the like raised above the floor.

A primary object of this invention is to provide a foot rest of the above mentioned character which will be extremely simple in construction, is sanitary in that it may be readily cleansed and may be quickly and easily placed beneath the foot of the furniture leg.

Broadly, the invention consists in the provision of a disk like member and an annular member for disposition circumjacent the disk like member, the parts in assembled relation forming a cup like structure for receiving therein and supporting the foot or lower end of the furniture leg.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during a study of the following description, taken in connection with-the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 2 is an elevational view with the disk like member in place supporting thereon the foot of the furniture leg and the annulus rim forming member disposed eircumjacent the leg prior to being engaged with the disk like member,

Figure 5 is a plan view of the disk like body forming member.

WVith reference more in detail to the drawings, it will be seen that I have designated generally by thereference character R my improved furniture leg foot rest, the same embodying an annular member 5 constituting the rim of the rest, the annular member 5 having its outer peripheral face beveled as at 4. The annular member 5 is provided with an internal annular shoulder 6, and the inner face of the member 5 above the shoulder ,is concaved as at 3; Beneath the shoulder 6 and merging into the shoulder 6 is an annular groove 9.

A disk like member 7 constitutes the bottom of the rest and is adapted to fit within the annular member 5 with the upper face of the disk at the peripheral edge thereof abutting the shoulder 6 as shown in Figure 1. The disk like body forming member 7 on its periphery is provided with a spiral thread 8 cooperating with the spiral groove or thread 9 of the annular member 5 for providing a threaded connection between the disk 7 and annulus 5, so that when the parts are in as sembled relation the rest is in the nature of a shallow cup or receptacle and receives therei in the foot F of the furniture leg L, the foot resting on the bottom 7 of the foot rest.

YVhen using the device, the annular member 5 may first slip upwardly of the leg 7 for disposition circumjacent the leg while the foot F of the leg is disposed at rest on the foot 7. The annulus 5 is then slid downwardly and at the proper time rotated in the proper direction for threading the annulus on the disk 7. The threads 8 and 9 cooperate for-providing such threaded connection between the disk and the annulus 5.

It is thought that from the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings a clear understanding of the use, construction, utility and advantages of a foot rest of this character will be had by those skilled in the art without a more detailed description.

It is further to be understood that while I have shown the annulus 5 and disk 7 formed of glass, it is to be understood that both of the said members may be formed of any suitable material, and be colored as desired for presenting a neat and attractive appearance.

Furthermore it will be appreciated that a foot rest of this character can be readily and easily cleaned thus rendering the same sanitary. Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible to changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a foot rest for furniture legs comprising a disk having threads onthe periphery thereof, and an annular member providedwith an internal annular shoulder, and threads on the inner periphery of the annular member on one side of the shoulder for cooperation with the threads on said disk, said shoulderbeing engageable with said disk when the latter has been screwed into final position within the confines of said annular member.

2. 'A'foot rest for furniture legs comprising a relatively flat base forming a member, a rim forming member, said base member and said rim forming member having cooperating means for securing said members in assembled relation upon axial movement of the members relative to. one another and for caus ing said axial movement of the members upon angular movement of one of said members relative to the other. i
