This invention relates to piston accessories for internal combustion engines, steam engines, air compressors and the like and has or its ob'ect' an accessory in. the nature of a piston saivaging device whereby the diameter of the-piston may be increased in size to conform to the wear or reboring of the cylinder at no great expense to the owner. A further object is to provide an accessory for this purpose that is simple to install and easy to replace. A further object is to increase the wearing properties of the piston, for as the preferred form is to be constructed of brass, it is well known by those skilled in the art that brass agains'tsteel or a soft metal against a hard metalhas'much longer wearing qualities than two hard. metals one against the other. y

Referring. to the drawing, numeral 1 is used to designate my invention as a piston saving device which ma be ap lied to any of the present make of pistons. ts construction is a sheet of metal (preferably brass) of the desiredthickness and shape in which there area plurality of countersunk ortions 2 in which there are holes 3 thnoug which rivets 4 may pass. 1
Holes 6 are drilled and countersunk, into p1ston5 in position to correspond with those in my invention through which rivets 4 may pass. These rivets are then clinched to hold the device firmly in place. After the rivets 4 have been properly clinched on the inside of saidpiston 5 the top and bottom of said device 1 are turned over as shown at 7 and 8 thus making it more rigid and at the same time protecting the walls of the cylinder from sharp edges.
With the foregoing description it will be readily understood that this device is an accessory to be used to reduce the play between the pistons and cylinders caused from wear or reboring of the cylinder. 7
Its shape and thickness depends on the shape of t 0 piston and corresponding size of the cylinder. It may be applied to one or both sides of the piston and may be secured thereto by rivets, screws, or bolts. The object is toprovide-ian accessory to rebuild one or both sides of. a pistonto take up the play between said piston and the cylinder walls dueto wear, grinding or reboring of the cylinder. To restore old pistons to their original diameter.
It will also be understood that my preferred form of this device will not score the cylinder 0n the side the device is applied.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and novel is i 1. In combination with a cylinder and cooperating piston therein, a piston salvaging device consisting of a thin sheet of metal having a plurality of countersunk portions said portions having transverse openings at their apex by means of which the device is securely fastened to the piston.
2. In combination with a cylinder and cooperating piston therein, a piston salvaging device consisting of a thin sheet of metal having a plurality of countersunk portions, said portions having transverse openings at their apex, said piston being provided with a plurality of countersunk holes with transverse openings at their apex to correspond with those in the salvaging device in which rivets,
