INT 'oFFicsjg EXTENSIBLE AND ENirEiasIBIle TABLE Application med November 1s, 1929, serial No. 4.078,140.` Renewed huye, 1932.
This invention relates to improvements in extension tables, in which a rectangular opening is provided in top of the table and within which a foldable extension table top is pivotally mounted.
The main object of this invention is to provide an extensible table top, pivotally secured in the table top, which forms the table top itself when folded within its framework.
Other objects and advantages will further be disclosed in the following description and in the accompanying drawing, in which z- Figure 1 is a side view, partly broken away, of a table, showing the invention diagrammatically positioned in dotted lines in the extended and folded positions.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary detail showing one of the pivoting members with the table top in folded position.
Figure 3 is another fragmentary detail sho-wing one of thepivoting members in position when the table top is in its extended position, and
Figure 4 is a further fragmentary detail o-f a top view showing the locking member in position. y
Similar reference characters represent similar parts in all the views. Y
In the present invention the interior portion of the table top 11 is cut-out in between the frame 12 mounted upon the legs 13, and two superposed panel- boards 14 and 15 are tted snugly within said cut-out portion. A pivot carrying member 16 is secured within each of the two parallel sides of the frame 12, said members facing each other and at a suitable distance between the center and one j end thereof, and the boards 14 and 15 are 40 secured together by means of a suitable hinge The member 16 comprises a vertical guide way 18 in which slides the upright member 19, the upper end o-f which is fixed to a horizontal slide 20 secured in each edge of the board 14, the lower end of said member 19 being connected to one end of a link 21. A bell-crank lever 22, pivotally mounted on the member 16, is connected to the other end of the link 2l and to a swivel member 23 which is pivotally secured to the side of the board -extendingzthe table 4. `A, stop 24 is provided @in the frame 12 in proximity of the swivel"23, to serve as an abutment for the projecting pointed end 25 of' said swivel.
A hand lever 26 is pivoted across andunder the frame 12 andifadjacent the 'end ofthe board 15, opposite the hinge .17, Aandvvvhen saidilever 1s folded, the separate pair of rollers 27 that it carries act as a support for the folded panel- boards 14 and 15 and serves i the purpose of facilitating the operation of extfendingsame.v x u 'f `When the panelboards 14-and15are in a closed position, vthe recess in' thetable top portion in which` moves the'swiv'el 23 iscov- -I ered4 by 'a projecting pieceu28 which `is inte,- gral with the board 14, so that the top 11 will present a level surface. f In the action of the-free end'of the said boards- 14- and 15; then, the free end of the board 14 is moved out, in the direction of the dotted arc line 29, tothe position,` shown at 14a, which will simultaneously cause the hinge 17 to move the board 15, following the dotted arc line 30, into the position shown at 15a.`
The board 15, When in closed position` rests upon the rollers 27 which engage in suitable recesses provided upon the underside 31 of the said board 15. In order that the boards 14 and 15 will be evenly extended over the table top 11, the board 14 is slightly pulled out against the fixed slide member 20, up to a point when the swivel 23 is flush withV the top of the table, afterwards being pushed back until the projecting point 25 abuts against the stop 24. Y
When the boards are fully extended, 'as in the position shown evenly disposed over the table top 11, they are solidly locked into that position, against raising or lowering, by means of the pivoting arrangement on the plate 16. In the closing operation, all that it requires is to pull out the board 14, so as to disengage the swivel point 25 from the stop 24, and the board 14 is then raised back into the position shown at 14a. It will readily be understood that only a preferred form is herein shown and at 145 and 15b, and "5"' boards 14A and 15, the
hand lever 26 is Vfirstlowered, so yas 'to raise scribed,
n nected to said swivel,
- end to and'under said that the construction herein shown and decan be greatly modified or altered without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
W'hatv we claim as our invention is 1. An extension table, comprising a frame mounted lon suitable legs, a top on said frame having arectangular opening formed therein, a movable panel-board eccentrically pivoted within said opening, 'another panelf board hinged at one end of and located un- Y said` movable panelboard being operated to revolve andsimulder said panel-board,
taneously rise by means of a sliding member mounted in a slide locatedin each side of said opening, a vswivel member, a stop'member for said swivel, a bell-erank-lever conand means linking said bell-crank lever to said sliding member, whereby said movable board will be held in a iXed extended position upon said table top, substantially as'described.
2. In an extension table, comprising a top and a frame mounted on suitable legs, a rectangular opening formed in said top and within said frame, a movable panel-board eccentrically pivoted within said opening, another panel-board securely'hinged at one means to support. at their :freey endsv said panel-boards ins'aid vopening level with said table top when in its nnextended position,
'and meansy to rais'e'said panel-boards in its tabletop, subeXt-ended position above said stantially as described.
