This invention relates to improvements in swivel connections for conduits and consists in the novel construction hereinafter disclosed.
An object embodied in i one unitary coupling.
Another object of the invention is'to provide a double swivel coupling whereby a plum rality of-c'onduits may be coupled by one unitary mechanism.

The device consists generally of a pair of cylindrical members each secured at one en to manifold and each havingon'the other end a header mounted for free rotation about:

Having generally described the construction, the device will now be specifically described in connection. with and withreference to the accompanying drawings.
A pair of cylindricalmembers 1 and 2 are secured in threaded engagement with a manifold 3. The manifold 3 is divided by a wall 4; into two. chambers 5 and to the drawings it will be seen that the cylindrical members l and 2 are in direct communication with the chamber 5 of the manifold 3.

A ring 21 is positioned and pressed against the packing ring 20 to hold it in position by a spiral spring 22. The packing. means here described is not the subject of this application, it having been described and claimed in a patent to this applicant, N 0. 1,795,541 issued Mar. 10, 1931, on an application Serial No. 180,453, filed March 25, 1929. That patent may be referred to for a more minute description of these packing means.
A portion at each end of each of the tubes 14, which are otherwise cylindrical in form, is cut away as shown at 23 to provide communication between the interior of the tube and the chambers into which the respective-ends extend.
The header 7 has an extension 24 in communication with the chamber 12. and divided from the chamber 13 by a wall 25. In the specific embodiment illustrated, the end of the extension 24 is threaded to engage a buck 26 of a pressing machine. The wall 25 is cut and threaded to receive the end of a pipe 27 which may extend into the interior of the buck 26. The pipe 27 is adapted to convey live steam to the buck and the spent vapors are returned through the interior of the extension 24 to the chamber 12.
The header 8 is bored and threaded to provide engagement for a pipe 28 in communi cation with the chamber 12 in the header 8. As best shown in Fig. 2, the wall of the chamber 13 in the header 8 may have bores 29 and 30 so that either may receive a pipe 31. Ordinarily only one of such bores will be used, the other one being stopped by a plug 32. The wall of the chamber 13 in the header 8 may also be bored to receive a pipe 33 leading to a gauge.
On account of the peculiar construction, for most purposes, packing will not be required between the tubes 14 and the wall 4 of the manifold or the walls 11 of the headers, since the loss through such oints will be comparatively small.
In order to provide a more complete understanding of the construction and operation of this device the path of the fluids will be described. The pipe 31 is connected to a source of steam supply, the steam passing through this pipe into the chamber 13 of the header 8, through the pipe 14 into the chamber 6, through the tube 14 in the cylindrical member 2, through the chamber 6 of the manifold 3, through the tube 14 in the cylindrical member 1, into the chamber 13 of the header 7, and then through the pipe 27 to the interior of the buck 26. The spent steam or vapors return from the buck 26 through the exten-i sion 24 into the chamber 12 of the header 7,
thence through the conduit 15 in the cylindrical member 1 to the chamber 5, thence through the conduit 15 of the cylindrical member 2 to the chamber 12 of the header 8, and out through the pipe 28.
It will be obvious that parts of the invention may be used without the whole and that various changes may be made in the details of construction within the scopeof the appended claims without departing from the spirit of this invention.

1. A swivel pipe coupling including a cylindrical member, a header mounted for rotation about said cylindrical member, a wall withinsaid header forming two chambers one of which is in communication with, the interior of said cylindrical member, a connecting member screwed on the header member and having a rotative abutting engagement with the cylindrical member, a gasket mounted between said connecting member and the cylindrical member, and a spring for pressing said gasket against its seat.
2. A swivel pipe coupling including a cylindrical member, a header mounted for rotation about said cylindrical member, a wall within said header forming two chambers, one of which is in communication with the interior of said cylindrical member, a tube arranged within the bore of said cylindrical member passing through said header wall and communicating with the other of said chambers, and a manifold securedto the end of the cylindrical .member opposite the header member, said manifold having one chamber communicating with said tube and another chamber communicating with a conduit formed by the interior wall of said cylindrical member and the exterior wall of the tu e.
3. A swivel pipe coupling including a pair of cylindrical members, a header member mounted for rotation about each cylindrical member, a wall within said header forming two chambers one of which is in communication with the interior of said cylindrical member, a tube arranged within the bore of each cylindrical member passing through said header wall and communicating with the other of said chambers, and a manifold secured to said cylindrical members having one chamber communicating with said tubes and BARNETT MORSE BROWNELL.
