This invention relates to a pin lock, and more particularly to a lock for preventing a pin from being withdrawn from a brake hanger, brake lever. or other attaching ele- 5 ment.
It is usual in railroad practice to secure in place removable .pins by the use of cotters, which many times are poorly set in place and the legs of which are not properly spread for holding the cotter in looking position.
' As a result thereof, pins forming connections between parts to be connected are often inadvertently moved out of operative association with said parts, resulting in a disconnection rendering structures inoperative.
One object of the invention is to provide a snap-on type of lock fora headed pin which will securely lock itself to the pin and prevent accidental disconnection of parts connected to the pin.
Another ob]ect is to provide'a lock for a headed pin in which the various parts thereof are arranged in a cooperative manner to purpose. These-and other objects are accomplished by means of the arrangements disclosed on the accompanying sheet of drawing, in

The invention relates particularly to the lock' itself. In Figures 1, 2 and 3, there is shown a lock embodying one form of my invention; This lock includes a continuous wall having four sides 15, 16, 17 and 18, within the confines of which the head 12 is received when the lock is set in looking position. The side wall 15 of itselfv may be con sideredfto be U-shaped in that it has an enlarged slot 19 for the reception of the reduced portion 20 of the pin 10. When the lock is set in position, as-shown in Figure 1, the upper portionof the side wall 15, or the base of the U-shaped wall, engages the inner side of .thepin'head 12. The opposite side wall 16 has a tongue 21 which engages the outer-side of the head 12 so 'thatwhen the lock is in position, the sidewall 15 and the tongue 21 of thewall 16 actually en'gageor embrace the pin head 12. cover all such modifications of the invention which do not depart from the spirit and scope thereof as defined in the following claims.
I claim:
1. A look for a headed pin or the like,'ineluding laterally spaced walls, portions integral with said walls and in planes other than the planes of said walls, one of said walls provided with an opening for receiving the head of the pin and adapted to be located on one side of said pin head, the other wall being located on the opposite side and having a resilient portion extending toward and contacting said pin for drawing said first-named wall into engagement with the head of said pin thereby tending to hold said lock against rotation, said last named portion having means for securing said lock to said pin.
2. A look for a headed pin, comprising a member having spacedwalls, one of said walls having a cut-out portion adapted to 'fit over the head of said pin, portions adjacent the opening of said cut-out portion integrally connecting said walls together to provide a unitary structure and to offset said walls in spaced relation, the other of said walls having a free end contacting with the head of said pin, said last mentioned wall having a locking element adapted to engage with said head for securing said lock to said pin.
3. A look for a headed pin, comprising a member having spaced walls, one of said walls having a cut-out portion adapted to fit over the head of said pin, portions adjacent the opening of said cut-out portion integrally connecting said walls together to provide a unitary structure and to ofl'set said walls in spaced relation, the other of said walls having a free end contacting with the head of said pin for drawing said first-named wall into engagement with the head of said pin thereby tending to hold said lock against rotation, said last mentioned wall having a locking tongue for engagement with said head for securing said lock to said pin.
4. A look for a headed pin, comprising a member having spaced walls, one of said walls having a cut-out portion adapted to fit over the head of said pin, portions adjacent the opening of said cut-out portion integrally connecting said walls together to provide a unitary structure, the other of said walls having a free end contacting with the head of said pin, said last mentioned wall having a tongue struck therefrom and extending toward the opening of said cut-out portion, said tongue having locking means for engagement with said head for securing said lock to said pin.
5. A lock for a headed pin, comprising a member having spaced walls, one of said walls being provided with a cut-out portion having an opening along an edge of said -wall, said cut-out portion being adapted to fit over the head of said pin, portions adjacent said opening integrally connecting said walls together to provide a unitary structure and to ofi'set said walls in spaced relation, the other of said walls having a resilient portion contacting with the head of said pin for drawin said first named wall into engagement with the head of said pin thereby tending to hold said lock against rotation.
6. A look for a headed pin, comprising a member having spaced walls, one of said walls being provided with a cut-out portion having an opening adjacent an edge of said wall for initially receiving said pin so as to position said head between said walls, said cut-out portion being adapted to fit over the head of said pin, portions adjacent said opening integrally connecting said walls together to provide a unitary structure and to offset said walls in spaced relation, the other of said walls having a resilient free end extending from said last named portions adapted to contact the head of said pin for drawing said first named wall into engagement with the head of said pin thereby tending to hold said lock against rotation.
